WISE COUNTY, VA - OBITUARIES - Jim W. Mays, 28 Feb 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- CONOVER, N.C. -- Jim W. Mays, 78, of 3rd Avenue NE, Conover, passed away Monday, February 28, 2005, at his residence. Born March 25, 1926, in Wise County, Va., Mr. Mays was the son of the late James Alexander and Lucy Coleman Mays. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Arnold Mays, two sisters, Eunice Salyer and Stella Salyer, and a brother, George Mays. Mr. Mays was a retired custodian and a U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Betty Raney Mays, of the home; his children, Rita and Bobby Pritchard and Jeff and Kim Mays, all of Conover, Ronnie and Rachel Mays, Elizabethton, Tenn., Roger Mays of Morganton, Tina and Rick Hoyle of Valdese, David and Kathy Reynolds of Icard, and Randy and Connie Reynolds, Bristol, Tenn.; three sisters, Shirley Mays, Elizabethton, Tenn., and Lucy McCall and Ruth Hughes, both of Abingdon, Va.; and two brothers, Russell Mays of Conover and Floyd Mays, Abingdon, Va. Twenty grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive. A service of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 3, in the Drum Funeral Home Chapel, Conover, with Rev. Wade Danner, Rev. Dewey Ward and Rev. Marie Dunn officiating. Interment will follow in the Conover City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Drum Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 2. Active pallbearers will be John Hughes, Robbie McCall and Wayne Mays. Honorary pallbearers will be Bubby Mays, Dale Pritchard, Jamie Pritchard, Richie Mays and Donnie Hughes.
