Purcell NORTON -- Thelma Holcomb Purcell, 99, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at the Mecklenburg Healthcare Facility in Charlotte, N.C. Born to the late Elisha King and Flora Adams Holcomb, she was a long time resident of Norton and St. Paul, Va. She was the widow of Charles Ervin Purcell. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norton and attended St. John's Baptist Church after moving to the Charlotte area in 1989. She is survived by a daughter, Betty Mullins and her husband Cecil Ray Mullins of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Patricia M. Acuff and her husband James of Knoxville and Cameron Ray Mullins and his wife Sheilah of Charlotte, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Johnathan Mullins; three nieces; and a nephew. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home Chapel in Norton with Morgan Bolling officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery in Norton. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. Saturday until time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Norton, Ninth Street, North, VA 24273 or to St. John's Baptist Church, 300 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC 28204.
