She was the daughter of William and Sallie Riggs. She was converted in the 16th year of her life; was baptized and always tried to take the advantage of her adversary by keeping the inside track in winning her Christian race. She was joined to Andrew Shepherd, in holy matrimony in 1827, with whom she lived faithfully, bearing her part of the toils and sorrows as well as the comforts of life, until the day of her death. She was the mother of eleven children, three of whom preceder her to the home of the good. She often spoke of her prospects of meeting them again, and no doubt bt she realized the full enjoyment of her hope in reunion with her children on the 26th of October, 1889. "Aunt Sally", as she was called, was a good mother, always feeling interested in the welfare of her children, warning them against doing wrong and admonishing them to do right. She was kind and good to everybody, and especially to the sick and distressed, always willing to do what she could to relieve the suffering ones around her, and her kindness to her neighbors made them all her friends. Everybody was glad to have "Aunt Sallie" for a guest. But her kindness did not exempt her from death. The fatal hour came, but thank God, it did not find her unprepared. After suffering her afflictions, which she bore with the greatest Christian resignation, she fell asleep in Jesus, to awake in the morning of eternity to meet her aged husband, children and friends where death will separate them no more forever. I love that dear mother-- She was loving and kink; Her children now craped in mourning behind. She would tell us of Jesus, Who died for us all. And beg us to harken The Bible's great call. She has ceased from her labor, And gone now to rest With the Savior and angels In the home of the just. She awaits the arrival Of children she loved, And longs for to see them in her home far above. I long to see mother And talk for awhile, And twine my arms around her As I did when a child. We will meet that kind mother In the home of the just, And talk trials over With her who is blessed. We will drink of the fountain That gladdens the heart, And live there with mother And nevermore part.
