Singleton Charles Gordon (Bear) Singleton, 68, went to be with our Lord Jesus, Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, after a long illness with cancer. He was born May 23, 1934, at Pound, Va., to the late William and Pearl Singleton. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, John Berlin Singleton, Arthur Singleton and Darrell Singleton; two sisters, Lula Riggs and Wilma Williams; one half sister, Bonnie Webb; and two half brothers, Grady and Lennie Shortt. Surviving family members include William Luther Singleton of Willow Creek, Calif., Beatrice Fink of Telford, Tenn., and Fred Singleton, Abingdon; one son, Charles William Singleton, South Gate, Mich.; Shirley Blevins, Skeeter Greer, Allen Blevins, Troy Blevins and Wendy Counts; and eight grandchildren, all of Taylor, Mich. He lived many years in Wise County until he relocated to Taylor working for Ford Motor Company until his retirement in 1996. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Jan. 7, 2003. Funeral services will be conducted Jan. 7, 2003, at Baker Funeral Home, Pound, with the Rev. Fred Singleton Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Sturgill Family Cemetery, North Fork of Pound.
