Thelma Hopkins Sturgill
    WISE -- Thelma Hopkins Sturgill, 88, passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003,
at St. Mary's Hospital, Norton, Va.
     She was a member of Wise Baptist Church, Hurricane Rebekah Lodge 7 and a
former sales clerk for Cohen's Department Store, Beaty Company, Pangle's
Department Store and Ted Hoopkins Grocery.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Sturgill; and a son,
Denver E. Sturgill.
     Surviving are a daughter, Freida Jo Gehrmann, Newark, Del.; two sons,
Larry W. Sturgill, Crawfordville, Fla., and John H. Sturgill, Wise; two
sisters, Lena Dale, Norton and Iantha Beckner, Morristown, Tenn.; seven
grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m.Tuesday at Sturgill Funeral
Home Chapel, Wise, with Rev. Eddie Sturgill officiating. Burial will follow in
the Wise Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 - 9 p.m. Monday at
Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise.
