He was born at Wise County, Va., and lived most of his life in Norton. Mr. Thompson had worked as a pipe insulator for Daniels Plumbing and Heating, Norton. He attended the First Pentecostal Church, Big Stone Gap, Va. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a son of the late Elbert S. and Polly Wilson Thompson, and was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Deidra Nicole Hutson; four sisters, Lizie Reider, Dovey Mullins, Beatrice Pegramn and Stella Culbertson; five brothers, Jack Thompson, Charlie Thompson, Ben Thompson, Roy Thompson and an infant brother. Survivors include his wife, Bessie Bolling Thompson, Norton; three daughters, Teena Coffey and Billie Jane Thompson, both of Norton, and Cheryl Hutson, Appalachia; one son, Adam Thompson, Norton; four grandchildren, Patricia Edwards, Jason Baker, Shanna Gilliam and Heather Coffee; three great- grandchildren, Abigail Edwards, Kain Baker and Brianna Gilliam; two sisters, Delia Parker, Columbia, S.C., and Bessie "Marge" Flanegan, Waterford, Mich.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at Carty Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Carty officiating. Interment will be in Laurel Grove Cemetery, Norton. Pallbearers will be family members and friends. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Saturday at funeral home. Funeral arrangements cared for by Carty Funeral Home, Norton-Wise.
