The shooting was done under circumstances as unprovoked, unjustifiable, and malicious as we have ever heard of. It seems that a son of Hoback was in the orchard of Mr. Seagle getting apples, when Mr. Seagle ordered him off, using some such expression as "Those are my apples; get out of my orchard, you thieving little rascal." The boy went home and reported this language to his father, whereupon Hoback seized his pistol, and, though appeaaled to by his wife not to pursue such a course, went off to mr. Seagle's, and meeting that gentleman in his yard, with a child in his arsm, deliberately fired at him. The ball fortunately struck the lower part of the body, entering the thigh, and was cut out at the rear part of the hip. Hoback immediately fled, and though some eighteen or twenty of the neighbors have been in pursuit of him he has not yet been apprehended. At first it was thought that Seagle's wound would prove father, but we are glad to learn that the doctor who attended Mr. S. does not consider it so. Seagle is one of the most quiet, law-abiding, and inoffensive men in the couonty, and the ruthless and unprovoked manner in which he was shot has caused much excitement and indignation in the neighborhood. It is to be hoped that Hoback will be caught and made to suffer the penalty of his crime. --Wytheville Enterprise.
