Hawkins RURAL RETREAT, Va. -- Marie Flanagan Hawkins, 93, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at the Francis Marion Manor. She was born in Wythe County, Va., the daughter of the late Emmett Sanders and Mary Jane Tabitha Shupe Flanagan. She was a member of the King's Grove United Methodist Church in Crockett, Va., and was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Hawkins; a brother, Austin Flanagan; two sisters, Minnie Lee Hall and Ada Poole; and two nephews, Bill and J.C. Poole. She is survived by six nieces, Frances Harmon of Round Lake Park, Ill., Virginia McFarlane of Marion, Opal Ratcliffe of Fort Gay, W.Va., Nancy Elliott of Marion, Lillian Willis of Hampton, Va., and Opal Hubble of Rural Retreat; four nephews, Herman (Buddy) Hall of Chilhowie and Russell Poole, Douglas Poole and Bobby Poole, all of Maryland; several great-nieces, great- nephews and other relatives; and a host of friends also survive. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Ratcliffe officiating. Interment will follow in the King's Grove Cemetery. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the King's Grove Cemetery Fund. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time at the Lindsey Funeral Home. The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Sam Vernon and nurses and staff at Francis Marion Manor. Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat, is handling the arrangements.
