He was born in Richlands on June 24, 1928, the son of the late Stuart and Ethel Palmer Newberry. Mr. Newberry was a retired miner with the UMWA and a retired mine inspector with the state of Virginia. He was a member of the Peach Bottom Primitive Baptist Church in Grayson County, Va., and was preceded in death by a son, Larry James Newberry. He is survived by his wife, Eva Arnold Newberry of the home; two sons, Dwight Newberry and spouse Darlene and Allen Newberry, all of Raven, Va.; one sister, Frances Dye of Tazewell, and one brother, Mervin Newberry of Lynchburg, Va. Five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2003 at the Barnett Funeral Chapel, with elder Terry Wilson and elder Curtis Hash officiating. Interment will follow in the West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
