White Cemetery Location: Southeast of Messick, Virginia 1 mile on Route #172, thence .4 mile west on Route #606, on southeast corner. York Co., Virginia DATE: 1860. OWNERS: Walter Martin 1860 to 1882 Solomon Evans 1882 DESCRIPTION: This is a corner plot used by Walter Martin as a burying ground for slaves. It is now grown up with trees and underbrush. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: After the War Between the States and the claves freed, Uncle Watt Martin, a slave remained with his master, who established a burying ground for slaves. A woman, Aunt Beck and her children and few more of the slaves, whose names are unknown were buried here.
