White Cemetery Location: West of Messick, Virginia, .8 mile on Route #172, thence .6 mile south on Route #606, east side. York Co., Virginia DATE: About 1860. OWNERS: John Topping DESCRIPTION: It is in the shape of a square and covered with honeysuckles and mimosa trees. There are no early dates on the stones, but it is known that there are quite a number of old graves here. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Three of John Topping’s wives are buried here. A Mrs. Walters from Portsmouth, Virginia and many others. The slaves are all dated after 1865, but the old graves have no stones. It is thought there are about 25 persons buried here.
