The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net *********************************************************************** York Co., VA, Wills & Inventories 20 (1745-1759), pp. 244-45 abstracted by Matt HARRIS [brackets & surname capitalization mine] [margin note] MOUNTFORTs Will } In the Name of God Amen I Rose MOUNTFORT of Yorkhampton Parish and County of York Widow being of Perfect Mind and Memory and calling to Mind and duly considering the incertainty of human Life make this my last Will and Testament First and Principally I commit my Soul into the hands of my blessed Maker trusting in his Mercies and in the Merits of my dear Redeemer for the Remission of all my Sins My Body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried As to my temporal Estate I bequeath and dispose of it in the following manner Imprimis I give and bequeath to my Grandson Edward POTTER one Young Mare Colt Item I give and bequeath to my said Grandson Edward POTTER twenty Pounds Current Money if he Attain to the Age of twenty one Years but my desire is that the said Money should not be paid if he should die before he attain to that Age or a Negro of that Value which my Daughter Jane MOUNTFORT pleases but if he should recover the Legacies left his Mother by my Son Zachariah MOUNTFORT then my Will and desire is that my daughter Jane MOUNTFORT should not pay neither the Money nor the Negro. Item I give & bequeath to my Daughter Jane MOUNTFORT all my Negros that is to say Sam Jene Frank Phillis Nan Sue Lydia Will, Joe and all their increase to her and her Heirs for ever. Item I give and bequeath all the residue and remainder of my Estate Lands Tenements Hereditaments with all my Goods Chattels Plate and Jewells Bonds Arrears of Rents with all other Properties of what kind sover to me Appertaining or belonging to my Daughter Jane MOUNTFORT to her and her Heirs forever And I do hereby Constitute and Appoint my Daughter Jane MOUNTFORT my Executrix and my friend Thomas CARY Jun.r my Executor (and that my Daughter Jane MOUNTFORT pay to my Executor for his trouble and all reasonable expences) of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby utterly revoke disallow and disannull all former bequests Wills and Legacies by me heretofore in any wise left or made declaring ratifying and Confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this seventh day of September One thousand seven hundred and fifty one.
