YORK COUNTY, VA - WILLS - Lucy Powell, 17 May 1784 ----¤¤¤---- Source: York County, Virginia, Deed Book 23, Pages 351 - 352 Written: May 17 1784 Recorded: July 19 1784 York County, Virginia, Deed Book 23, Pages 351 - 352 Transcribed by Mary Jean Medlock Zimmerman IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN ~ I LUCY POWELL of York County being very sick but of perfect mind and memory do make this my Last Will and Testament that is to say~ First, I give my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it me and my Body I recommend to the Earth, to be buried according to Christian Burial and my worldly estate which it hath pleased Almighty God whose great Goodness to give unto me in the World, I give and dispose of in Manner and form following~ Item: I give and bequeath unto my Grand daughter LUCY ROBERTS one Negro woman named Suckey, one Negro girl named Sall to her and her heirs forever~ Item: My will and desire is that my Negroes Isam, Easter, Billy, and little Isam to be equally divided between my Grand daughters FRANCES ROBERTS, ELIZABETH ROBERTS, NANCY ROBERTS AND MARY ROBERTS when the first comes of age or married, if either of them should die before they come of age or married, to be equally divided among the survivors~ I give them to them and their Heirs forever and I do hereby constitute and appoint my SON, WILLIAM MOSS and BENJAMIN POWELL, my whole and sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I hereby set my hand and seal this seventh day of May 1784. ~Signed Sealed and Published LUCY POWELL in Presence of } HARWOOD BURT, SR., HARWOOD BURT, JR., GERARD ROBERTS At a Court held for York County the 19th day of July 1784~ This will was proved by the oaths of Harwood Burt Sr, Harwood Burt Jr and Gerard Roberts. Witness thereto sworn to by WILLIAM MOSS one of the Executors therein named and ordered to be recorded and certificate for obtaining a Probate thereof in due form was granted to the executor, he having given Bond with Harwood BURT and Allen CHAPMAN his securities in the Penalty of Fifteen Hundred Pounds conditioned as the Law directs. Liberty being reserved to BENJAMIN POWELL the other executor named in the said will, to join in the Probate when he shall think fit. Teste: R.
