Will of John Scasbrook, 1679 - York Co. VA York Co., VA, Deeds, Orders, Wills &c. 6 (1677-1684), p. 97 abstracted by Matt HARRIS [brackets & surname capitalization mine] In the name of God Amen I John SCASBROOK of York County and in York Parrish being of Sound and p'fect memory thanks be given to God but very Sick and weake in body and knowing the uncertainty of this life I doe thinke fitt to make this my last will and Testament utterly revoaking and doe make void all wills by me formerly made, or that may or shall hereafter be p'duced by any p'son or p'sons what Soever, and that this my last will and Testament remaine in full force for ever~ Imprimis I bequeath my Soul into the hands of god that gave it and my body to be buryed in Such decent Manner as my Executrixes hereafter named Shall thinke fitt meet, And for what worldly estate it hath pleased God to lend me, I dispose of as followeth.~~~ Item I doe give and bequeath unto my Sonne Jn.o SCASBROOK Six Negroes by name Lawrence, Bird, Joe, Moll, Toney, & Madge, and one hundred pounds Sterl. to be paid at the age of one and twenty yeares, and likewise I doe give unto my Sonne Jn.o SCASBROOK all that tract of Land lying and being upon Lee's Creeke in Gloster County and in case of his Decease in tyme of his Minority to the Survivors.~ Item I doe give unto my Daughter Martha SCASBROOKE two hundred pounds Sterl. to be paid upon the Day of marriage or at seventeen yeares of age, if the overseers thinke them capable of making use of it, if not to deteyne it, while they come to the age of twenty one, ~~~~ Item I doe give and bequeath unto my Daughter Martha SCASBROOKE two hundred pounds Sterl. to be paid in like manner. ~~ Item I doe give and bequeath unto my Daughter Hannah SCASBROOK two hundred pounds Sterl. to be paid as aforesaid, and in case of the decease of any of them in Minority, then to returne to the Survivors ~~ Item I doe give and bequeath all this tract or Devident of Land whereon I now live to be divided between my Eldest daughters Jane DUKE & Eliza. CONDON during their lives and after their decease to both their heires, but in case of the Death of Either of them and their heires then to the Survivors.~~ But my will is that this plantation that is the Manner house remaine Still as it is during the minority of my children, and Negroes & Stock remaine as it doth for the maintenance & Education out of the Same estate during their minority and my will is that my two daughters, Jane DUKE & Eliz.a CONDON doe carefully Look after my children in the tyme of their minority, but because my daughter CONDON lives soe farr of, I leave the greatest care and charge to my Daughter DUKE, but my will is that they both be very carefull and that they keep mind to waite upon them Soe that they are brought up in learneing befitting them. ~ Item I doe give and bequeath unto my three Daughters Martha, Mary & Hannah SCASBROOK to each of them a featherbed and furniture w.th all their Mother's wearing cloathes to beequally divided among them, but my daughter Martha to have the first choise, and if there is any thing recovered of M.rs BUSHROD's estate Shall be Divided amongst the foure children Martha, Mary, Hannah & Jn.o SCASBROOKE, onely Martha to have one Negroe more then the rest my reason is because her grandmother had in her life tyme a great respect for her~ And my will is that after my children comes to age that what Negroes shall be left after my children's several portions are paid Shall be Equally Divided between my Daughter Jane DUKE and Eliz.a CONDON, and for what other Estate remaines, that is to Say, horses, cattle, Mares or household goods or any thing Else w.ch belonges to the Estate Shall be Equally Divided amongst all my children, Jane DUKE Eliz CONDON Martha Mary Hannah & Jn.o SCASBROOK, and further my will is that what plate I have be likewise equally divided amonst all my children, And I doe appoint my loveing friends Coll Jn.o PAGE M.r Thomas BARBER & M.r Tho.s CHISMAN to be the overseers, of this my will.
