Will of Robert Wood, Sr., 1892 - York Co. VA In the name of God Amen, I Robert Wood of York County, Virginia being of sound mind and disposing memory (in as good in my opinion as I ever was in my life) do this day make this writing as and for my last will and testament as follows to wit: First, I give and bequeath unto my son Robert H. wood, that portion of my Home farm bounded as follows: East and South by the Bogar or Cooke tract. East and South by the Nottingham tract of land and West by the Power land, which is valued by me at three hundred dollars containing in the neighborhood of _____ acres., more or less with the express understanding and provided he pays to his brother James D. Wood one hundred dollars within one year after my death without interest. 2nd I give and bequeath unto my two youngest sons Thomas D. and Nathaniel Wood that portion of the Hame farm containing houses and bounded and running from the Ditch at the land given my son Robt. H. Wood and running East and West from the Bogar or Cooke land to the Power land; I also give to them each five acres of Woodland to be selected by them from my Home land. This land given them I value at Four hundred dollars which makes two hundred dollars worth of land I leave each of the above named sons in this my will. 3rd I give and bequeath unto my son Simon P. Wood that portion of the Home land North of the Houses and bounded North and West by the Power land, East by the part given my son Joseph Wood and South by home land given my sons Thomas D. and Nathaniel Wood containing _______ acres more or less. I also give him five acres of woodland to be selected from my other wood land. This land is given to Simon P. Wood with the express understanding and provided he pays to his brother James D. Wood one hundred dollars in one year after my death, without interest, this land together is valued by me at three hundred dollars and to equalize the division he is to pay the one hundred dollars above named to his brother James D. Wood. This according to my valuation makes two hundred dollars worth of land given to my son Simon P. Wood in this my will. I hold a bond of my son Simon P. Wood on which is now due me fifty eight dollars and a half (I charge him no interest) and if it not paid, must be deducted from his Legacy in this my will. Fourth I give and bequeath unto my son Joseph Wood the farm on which he resides and is bounded as follows to wit: North by the Chismans land East and South by the Bogar or Cooke tract and Moreland land and West by part of my home farm given m son Simon P. Wood. This place I value at four hundred dollars and contains ________ acres, more or less. And it is given with the express understanding and provided he pays to his sister my daughter Mahala Cox one hundred dollars current money and to his brother William E. Wood the like sum of one hundred dollars withing two years from and after my death without interest. He is to pay fifty dollars to each each year suceeding my death. He also owes me individually a debt of fifty dollars for which I charge no interest, it being for a hors and if he does not pay is to be deducted from the legacy herein left him by me in this will. 5th I give and bequeath unto my daughter Delila Ann DeAlba, the farm on which she now lives and has resided for several years, lying on the main Hampton Road which is valued by me at six hundred dollars with the express understanding and provided she pays to the following legatees the amounts and as the dates named to wit: To her sister Mahala Cox, the wife of Geo. R. Cox one hundred dollars to her brother Wm. E. Wood One hundred dollars and to Rhos. D. Wood her brother and Nathaniel Wood each fifty dollars and to my executor hereinafter named which he will account for as part of my personal Estate one hundred dollars. These amounts are to be paid within four years from and after my death without interest being charged. One fourth of the amount due each to be paid each succeeding year after my death till the amount is paid; after paid I estimate that her interest in the farm given her by my Will to be two hundred dollars given her in this my will. 6th I hold a bond which I paid for my son Wm. E. Wood amounting (the balance due me, to sixty five dollars without interest which if he fails to pay is to be deducted by my executor from his legacy herein left him by this my will; and the rest and residue of my property real and personal or mixed after the payment of all debts due by or my estate as well as expenses of my funeral & c. I give to each of my children to be equally divided share and share alike and I do hope and request that they each and all will be satisfied; I having left each one an equal share as near as was possible for me to do. Taking it for granted and being assured that the provisions of my will would be carried out and adheared to in good faith, by all concerned, I have this day executed Deeds to those of my children to whom I have given land valued by me at two hundred dollars each in my will --except my sons Thos. D and Nathaniel, the amount over two hundred dollars left each of them I gave them because I will (last line is missing) Testament he giving Bond and security for discharge of the duties of his office as Executor in testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand this seventh day of December A. D. 1892. Robert Wood Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of the attesting witnesses who in the presence of the Testator and in the presence of each other witnessed the same as his request. Bolivar Sheild John G. Cooke In York County Court August 29th 1893 in the year of the Commonwealth of Va.
