Austin Held on Saturday. The auditorium of the Baptist church was filled nearly to its capacity Saturday afternoon by sorrowing friends who gathered to pay their last tribute to Edward W. Austin, who passed away on Wednesday following an operation for a brain tumor. Rev. J. M. Maxwell officiated at the funeral service and paid a beautiful tribute to the life stricken down so early. The members of the American Legion, Le- gion Auxiliary and of the Masonic lodge attended in a body. The flowers were beautiful and very abundant completely banking the casket and the pulpit of the church. Earnest Austin was born in Fairfax on April 25, 1896, the younger of two sons born to Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Aus- tin. The mother died when Earnest was two years old and the two boys came to Randolph to live with their uncles and aunt, Homer and Arthur and Miss Flora Bell. After the uncles married and established their own homes, Miss Bell still maintained the home and reared her nephews with real mother-love until they themselves married. In June, 1920, he was united in mar- riage with Miss Valentine Packard and to them two children were born, Dor- othy, aged nine, and William, aged six.
