8:

The original grant embraced 23,040 acres of land.  (Eden is larger than this today,
because in October, 1828, the legislature annexed an additional 13,440 acres from
Belvidere, [Vt.]. This gave Eden township a total of 36,480 acres, one of the
largest townships in the state: 57 square miles in all.)
