Mrs. Emma Roy Batchum, wife of David Batchum, and daughter of John Tillotson, 
formerly of this town, died on Thursday, Dec. 26, at the age of 69 years, 7 
months and sixteen days.  She had been tenderly cared for during many long 
months of illness by her husband and through the last weeks with the assistance 
of her daughter, Mrs. Walter Daley of Woodbury.  Also their son, Elmer Batchum, 
and his family have been often at her bedside.  Their married life continued 
for 46 years, and the last 33 in this town.  As long as strength permitted she 
was constant with her husband at church and all gatherings in which they were 
interested, being for years a professor of the Christian faith.  Her funeral 
was held at the Congregational church Saturday with favorite hymns by the choir 
and sermon by Rev. E.T. Hurd.  Burial near her kindred in the village 
cemetery.  Besides her children and families there were present Mrs. Henry 
Tillotson and son of Morristown and nieces and husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Wheelock 
and Mr. and Mrs. Wedge.  Much sympathy is extended to Mr. Batchum in his 
bereavement following the long and faithful ministry to his wife in her great 
weakness and suffering.
