Renfrew, passed away at his home in Ashland, N.H., Sunday, Oct. 15th. Olin N. Renfrew, son of Nelson and Susan Gove Renfrew, was born in Newbury, Vt., Dec. 25, 1863. He attended the grades and Newbury High School. When a small boy his parents moved to a farm in Fairlee, (which is now Lanakila camp). He married Mary Welton of Bradford in 1884. One daughter was born to them, Rose, Mrs. James Newell of New Britain, Conn. After Mrs. Renfrew's death, April 16, 1916, he sold the farm and moved to Orford, H. H., where he married Nellie Sargent in 1917. In Fairlee he was deacon of the Federated church and chairman of its building committee when the church and parsonage were built. He represented the town in the legislature at Montpelier and served as school director for a number of years. He and Mrs. Renfrew became members of Silver Leaf grange, where he held several offices. They had been recently awarded the 25-year Silver Star for continuous membership in that organization. He was a Mason and had been past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. In Orford, Olin N. Renfrew was a deacon of the church for many years. He was chairman of its board of trustees for a long time. He also was chairman of its building committee. He was selectman a number of years; road agent, one year and a member of Orford school board for two years. He served in the New Hampshire legislature for three or four years. While in that legislature he pursuaded the State Highway department to take ove what is now route 25A as a state highway. This was a large service, both to the town and state. In 1941, they moved to Ashland, N.H. to Mrs. Renfrew's old home. He is survived by Mrs. Nellie Renfrew; a daughter, Mrs. James Newell, and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild, of New Britain, Conn. One granddaughter, Thelma Newell, lived with them while attending Orford High school. She is now a nurse in the Navy, stationed at Newport, R. I., and one grandson, Pvt. Olin Newell, is serving his country in France. Funeral services were at Orford Street church Wednesday, Oct. 18th, at 2 o'clock. Rev. Edwin D. Harvey spoke of Olin N. Renfrew as a man of sterling honesty, both in private and public life. He was a shining example of faithful devotion and his personal dignity will long be remembered by all who knew him. The flowers were many and beautiful, which attested to the esteem in which he was held. A goodly number of relatives and friends from New Britain, Conn., Ashland, Plymouth, and Haverhill, N. H., Bradford, Fairlee and Orford were in attendance. Gannon's of Plymouth, N. H., were in charge of the service. The bearers were Henry Horton, Charles cushman, Bradley Morey, Wallace Lufkin. Burial was beside his first wife, Mary, in the family lot at Fairlee Cemetery. Additional Comments: Olin Renfrew was my great-grandfather and I am the great-grandchild mentioned in his obituary. I am not 100% certain of the year of his death, but the next great grandchild was born in 1947.
