HOLBROOK Was born in Rutland, Vermont, January 3, 1804, and is a son of Abel Holbrook, who settled in Greenwich, New York, about 1814. He lived at home until 1826, and worked out until 1829, when he went to Waterford, Erie county, and worked at farming one year. In 1830 he went to Centreville and rented a farm, on which he lived eight months. Then he went to Sparta township, and worked for John Sybrant clearing land for one year. From there he went to Guy’s Mills, and then to Rome township, and bought one hundred acres of land and built a cabin and commenced clearing. He married, December 28, 1836, Miss Sophia E. Little, daughter of Rufus Little, of Richmond township. From 1836 to 1842 he made several trips to Pittsburgh, which was about the only way he had in those days of getting any money. For over twenty years he had no neighbors within one mile. He now has about two hundred acres of well improved land. In 1856 he built a fine house, and is now enjoying the elegant home and comforts he has worked so long to get. Directory of Crawford County, PA, 1879-1880, pages 309- 310 Submitted by Teri Brown
