Rev. J. J. Boyle officiated. "Lafe" Derby was arrested last Saturday night by Officers W. H. Sisco and Charles Degarmo. His trial was held in the evening before Justice E. o. Cool and he was fined $15 and costs, amounting to $24.54, which was paid. Derby had in his possession about six quarts of liquor which was spilled by the court. Grand Juror F. W. Williams prosecuted. Michael Irimic, an Austrian, who is unable to speak English and has been loafing around town for some time, was arrested last Saturday night and given a hearing before Justice E. O. Cool, and through an interpreter it was learned that he was without money and had been tramping for some time. He was sentenced to 30 days in the house of correction at Rutland for tramping and was taken there by Officer Charles Degarmo. The Fourth was an unusually quiet one here. All of the places of business were closed and many people spent the day out of town. Edward Riley, a gypsy, who was arrested for being drunk last Sunday, was tried Monday before Justice E. O. Cool and fined $5 and costs. Being unable to settle he was taken to the county jail at Rutland for 10 days. Clarence M. Carpenter, who has been spending several days here with his family, returned to Buffalo, N. Y. Misses Mabel Kelley, Marcellete Johnson and Marion Kingsley are spending a few days with Miss Ruth Sprague at Thompson's Point, Lake Champlain. Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Farr and daughter are here from Chicago for the summer at their park home. Carl Seeley, who has been spending several weeks here with his sister, Mrs. J. W. Estabrook, has returned to his home in Delhi, N. Y. Charles Ahn, who has been seriously ill with rheumatism, is somewhat improved. Miss Ella Whitlock of Springfield, Mass., is in town for the summer with her sister, Mrs. A. H. Gipson. Miss Fanny Spooner is at home from Elmwood, Mass., for the summer, with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Spooner of Franklin Street. James Culliney has returned to his home in Dorchester, Mass. Mrs. Culliney and children will spend the summer here. W. H. Kimball, who has been spending several days here with friends and relatives, has returned to his home in Plymouth, N. H. Miss Frances Wesley of West Roxbury, Mass., is in town visiting at E. C. Chandler's on Conant square. A moving picture show will be given at the town hall this evening under the auspices of the Woodman's band. Mrs. E. M. Shedd, who has been spending several days with her family in Somerville, Mass., has returned to the Braley farm. Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Braley and Miss Nellie Knowlton spent the Fourth with Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Ives at their cottage on Lake Dunmore.
