The funeral of William Hogan, who died Saturday afternoon, was held from St. Mary's church Monday morning at 9 o'clock, Rev. Thomas O'Donoghue officiating. The following committee has been appointed to make arrangements to entertain the Rutland County Veterans' association on their annual outing which will be in Poultney sometime in August: James B. Carrigan, J. W. Ripley, R. M. Broughton, W. W. Broughton, Chester Bixby and F. W. Barrett. Dinner and supper will be provided for the veterans and a program consisting of music, short speech-making and war reminiscences will take place after dinner. It is intended to have a band and drum corps and to have a parade in the morning shortly after the arrival of the special train from Rutland. The selectmen have a gang of men at work building the new road on the west side of Lake St. Catherine. The surveys were completed last week and work began on the new road. Mrs. John Marshall and daughter, Virginia of Boston, are guests of her sister, Mrs. George Paro of East Poultney. The Poultney grange will entertain Joyce post, G. A. R., and the W. R. C. Thursday evening in Humphrey hall. The following program will be rendered at that time: music, grange quartet; "History of the Flag," Miss Ruth Carlton; flag drill and salute; solo, "Star Spangled Banner," Miss Jane Haas and chorus; "Some Men of War Times," W. G. Philips; duet, Misses Miriam and Blodwen Jones; recitation, Miss Laura Roberts; solo, "Tenting Tonight," W. Harold Rogers and chorus; "Some Women of War Time," Mrs. W. H. Cook; music, mixed quartet; oration, "The Crisis," C. H. Cutler; solo, "Marching Through Georgia," W. W. Broughton; declamation, Thomas McCormick, war reminiscences, members of post; "America," After the program refreshments will be served. Clarence McClure is putting up a milk house next to the site of the old dwelling. The house was destroyed by fire about four weeks ago. Dances will be held at Ferncliff, Lake St. Catherine, every Wednesday evening throughout the summer. Miss Anna McDevitt of Philadelphia is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Landry. Misses Elizabeth and Agnes Clifford of Rutland were guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Flood of Beaman Street this week. Miss Ada Philips of New York City is spending the summer with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Philips of Furnace Street. R. Mora has returned from a week's visit in New York. James Logan has bought a lot on York Street and is putting up a house. Herbert Randall of Boston is the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Randall of Church Street. M. Russell is spending a few days in Rupert [Vt.]. Arthur Bessey has returned to his home in West Rutland, after a brief visit with friends here. Mr. and Mrs. B. Tanner, who have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. Freeman of East Street, have returned to Salem, N. Y. Mrs. Edith Gaines of Troy, N. Y., is visiting friends in town. Miss Bertha Maranville has returned from Lake Bomoseen, where she has been camping with a party for a week. Miss Elizabeth Lynch has returned from a visit in Granville, N. Y. The new tenement house of R. M. Broughton on Beaman street is almost completed, as is the new Episcopal rectory. Mrs. E. A. Baldwin has returned to her home in Whiting, after a brief visit with relatives here. Margaret McDonough has returned from a visit at her home in Granville, N. Y. Mr. and Mrs. O. T. Simons of Granville, N. Y., spent Tuesday in town. The cottage of George W. Lynch at Lake St. Catherine will be occupied during the season by Mr. Nevin and family of New York City. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Cook and son Arthur have been spending a few days in Boston. Miss Emma Holloway has returned to St. Albans after a few days visit here. Harry B. Rood visited friends in Rutland this week. Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Runkle and Mr. and Mrs. O. Holmes visited friends in North Granville, the past week. Samuel Rand of New York City is spending a few days in town. Miss Irene Flood has returned from a few days stay in Middletown Springs. Howard Klein of Troy, N. Y., is visiting at his former home here. Miss Ethel Murphy has returned to Granville, after a two weeks' stay at her home on East street. Miss Glavia Oakman, employed in F. W. Barrett's store, is taking a week's vacation.
