Mrs. Baptie was born in Poultney on March 20, 1910, the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Owens) Williams. She was employed for many years at Green Mountain College in the Buttery. She was an active member of the United Baptist Church of Poultney for over 50 years where she served as a Deaconess, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the Friendship Circle. She was, for many years, an active member at the Poultney Young At Heart Club and the Northern Vermont Thimble Club. Mrs. Baptie is survived by three sons, Asa Baptie of Castleton, Richard Baptie of Middletown Springs and Thomas Baptie of Castleton; three daughters, Margaret Parker of Poultney, Jemima Sharon of Rutland and Eleanor Thomas of Poultney; one brother, Morris Williams of Castleton, N.Y.; one sister, Marie Felker of Whiting, N.J.; 22 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Baptie in 1979; three sons, Charles Baptie, Robert Baptie and John Baptie; four brothers; two sisters; and two grandchildren. Calling hours will be private and at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, 1 p.m., at the United Baptist Church of Poultney. The Rev. Stephen R. Payne, pastor of the United Baptist Church of Poultney and the Rev. Bruce Bishop, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Rutland, will co-officiate. A spring interment will take place at the family plot in the Poultney Cemetery. Donations in the memory of Mrs. Baptie may be sent to the Poultney Young At Heart Club, 35 Furnace St., Poultney, Vt., 05764.
