Oct. 18, 1909. FAIR HAVEN , VT. HUMPHREY OWENS DEAD. Fair Haven's Postmaster Victim of Tuberculosis, Prominent in Town Affairs and in Masonic Circles. The news, which became generally know here today, that Humphrey Owens, postmaster of this town for the past four years, died last night at 11 o'clock, was received with grief by the citizens of Fair Haven, although his recovery had not been expected. Mr. Owens became ill with pneumonia, which developed into tuberculosis last January and since the 11th of that month he had been unable to attend to his duties. He was 52 years of age and is survived by his wife and three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Williams of Middle Granville, N.Y., Mrs. Harriet Jones of this place,and Mrs. Judith Hughes of Wales. Mr. Owens was a member of and faithful worker in the Welsh Presbyterian church, a member of the Three Ivorites, of Eureka lodge, No. 75, F.and A. M., and a charter member of Eureka chapter, R. A. M., of this place. He also was a member of Killington commandery, No. 6, K. T. , of Rutland and of Cairo temple, A. A. O. N. M. S. of that city. At the time of his death he was a trustee of the graded school, and earlier he had held the offices of the village trustee and water commissioner. The funeral will be held at the house at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon and burial will be held in the Cedar Grove cemetery. Additional Comments: Transcribed by, Joan H.
