I Marcus Stoddard of Middletown in the county of Rutland and State of Vermont
being in a very infirm state of health and sensible too of my liableness to sudden
death, at the same time being in my own apprehension of sound mind do judge it
best to make this my last will and testament.

It is my Will that my just debts and charges of my funeral to be paid and
discharged by my executor hereinafter named and appointed out of my estate as soon
as conveniently may be after my decease and I leave the charge of my funeral to
the direction of my said Executor-

I give devise and dispose of all my estate real and personal, save what shall be
necessary for the payment of my just debts and funeral charges in the following
manner - 

I give to my beloved Wife Julia Stoddard during her life the use and profits of
the messuage and tenement on which I now live lying in Middletown afsd bounded as
follows commenceing at Theophilus Clarks north West corner thence East on said
Clarks North line to Tinmouth line thence North on Tinmouth and the West line of
the Linus Crampton farm and Philetus Clarks West line running as far North as the
south line of the Huvit farm so caled thence West to Abner Pratts East line thence

Buel farm so called also at her decease the above described lands I give equally
share and share alike to all of my children to wit Charles N Stoddard Alonzo R
Stoddard Elvira C Stoddard Edna C Adams --

I also give and bequeath to my said wife Julia Stoddard one third of all my
personal property after paying my just debts funeral charges and expenses of
setting the estate to be paid in household furniture and other personal property
such as she shall choose --

I give to my son Alonzo R Stoddard his heirs and assigns two hundred and twelve
Dollars to be paid at the settlement of my Estate--

I give to my Daughter Edna C Adams one hundred dollars to be paid at the
settlement of my Estate--

I give to my Daughter Elvira C Stoddard two hundred and forty five dollars to be
paid at the settlement of my Estate--

My Executor is directed to pay said Alonzo Elvira and Edna from the undivided two
thirds of my personal estate if it be sufficient if not to dispose of enough of my
real estate to pay the same not to interfere with that bequeathed to my wife Julia
Stoddard

- to all my children to wit Charles N Stoddard Alonzo R Stoddard Elvira C Stoddard
and Edna C Adams

And I hereby nominate constitute and appoint Roswell Buel Jr to be executor of
this my last will and testament, in testimony whereof I hereto set my hand and
seal and publish and declare this to be my last will and testament this 25 day of
May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty seven.

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Marcus Stoddard as his last will
and testament in presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as
witnesses thereof at the request and in the presence of the said testator and in
the presence of each other

More estate/probate record for Marcus Stoddard available - I am descendant through
Alonzo R Stoddard. The widow Julia Stoddard was a Buel before marriage.
