                        MRS. CARRIE NEWCOMB
        wife of Hollis N. Newcomb Died in Her Guilford Home

        Mrs. Carrie (Wood) Newcomb, 47, wife of Hollis N. Newcomb of Guilford,
died yesterday morning in her home after an illness of 10 days with
pneumonia.  She had been in ill health the past winter.

        She was one of several children of David and Nettie (Lawrence) Wood and
was born in Windham Aug. 6, 1876.  When a small child she moved with her
parents to Putney, living there several years.  She married Hollis N.
Newcomb of Putney, Jan. 19, 1893, and six children were born to them all
of whom survive.  Ther are:  Mrs. John E. Downs and Mrs. Carl Canedy of
Bernardston, Mass.,  Mrs. Ray Sprague of West Brattleboro, and Gladys,
Dewey and Raymond Newcomb. who lived at home.  She also leaves five
grandchildren.  Three brothers and three sisters survive.  They are:
Benjamin, Willis and Gilbert Wood and Mrs. Henry Wood all of Putney,
Mrs. Charles Scott of Townshend, and Mrs. Mattie Hulett of Brattleboro.

Mrs. Newcomb was not a member of any organization.

        The funeral will be held Monday aftenoon at 2 o'clock in the home in
Guilford.  Rev. A.V. Woodworth of West Brattleboro will officiate,  The
burial will take place in Guilford.
