CLARA STEARNS Former Practical Nurse Dies in Melrose Hospital Mrs. Clars Stearns, 74, died Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the Melrose hospital where she had been since Tuesday. Mrs. Stearns underwent a major operation Wednesday morning by Dr. Edward R. Lynch. Death resulted from a cancerous trouble. She was born in Brattleboro and lived here during a greater part of her life. She moved from here to Springfield, Mass. about 15 years ago, where she was engaged in practical nursing. While here she was employed several years at the Estey organ plant filing reeds. Last November she returned to Brattleboro and took a position as housekeeper for Lucius Moore of Vine street. She leaves one brother, Lucius Stearns of Hinsdale, N.H. and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Stearns was a member of the Universalist church of Brattleboro. The funeral was held this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in Moran & Rohde's undertaking parlors. Rev. E.P. Wood, pastor of All Souls church, officiated.
