JAMES CAIN ------- Was Native of Switzerland and Formerly traveled with Well-to-Do Woman of That Country Mrs. Elizabeth (Murner) Cain, 68, wife of James H.Cain, died Friday morning at 5 o'clock in the home of he daughter, Mrs. Edward W. Bone of Central street, where she had been cared for during an illness of several months with heart troule and complications. Mrs. Cain was taken ill last fall and confined to the bed during the winter, but since early spring she had been about the house and was able recently to go on an automobile ride. The end came unexpectedly. She leaves her husband and five children, Mrs. C.H. Smith of Holyoke, Mass, Carl F. Cain and Mrs. Edward W. Bone of Brattleboro, Albert Cain of Springfield, Mass., and Arthur H.Cain, a member of Company E, 101st ammunition train, in France. One child died in infancy and a son Ralph J. Cain, who was a traveling salesman, died five years ago in Texas. There are also 10 grandchildren. She leaves two sisters, Mrs. John Cain of Sommerville, Mass., Mrs. F. Gerber of Greenfield, Mass., and one brother living in Lyons, France. Mrs. Cain was born in Switzerland, June 13, 1850. She came to this country 43 years ago while traveling as companion to a well-ro-do woman in Switzerland. While living in Switzerland Mrs. Cain made the acquaintance of Mr. and Mrs. Dorman B. Eaton, who for years owned and occcupied the Eaton summer home on Putney road, and their friendship lasted through a long period of years. Mrs. Cain traveled extensively abroad and was able at one time to speak seven different languages. She married James Cain, a well-know painter, in Brattleboro, who was a native of Ireland. He is now living in Springfield, Mass. She was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal church in Brattleboro. The funeral was held Sunday to 3 in St. Michael's Episcopal church, of which she was a member. Rev. W. F. Madelay officiated. The bearers were two sons, Carl F. and Albert Cain, and two nephews, Louis A and William J. Cain. The burial took place in Prospect hill cemetery. Those attending from out of twn were her daughter, Mrs. Charles H. Smith of Holyoke, Mass., her son Albert Cain of Springfield, Mass., James Cain of Springfield, Mrs. John Cain of Somerville, Mass., Mrs. F.
