1931 Golden Wedding- Mr & Mrs Moses Benett Date: 4/20/98 1:25:54 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: tess@sover.net (Terry Perham) from the Brattleboro Reformer Brattleboro, Windham County, VT April 18, 1931 OBSERVE GOLDEN WEDDING Mr. and Mrs. Moses Bennett With 32 relatives present, including all of their seven children and all but four of their 16 grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Moses Bennett, well-known residents of Jacksonville, yesterday celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, which occcurred Saturday. A family dinner served at noon was featured by two wedding cakes which were cut by the "bride." The event was doubly significant as this was the first occasion since 1917 that all the children had met together with their parents. Moses Bennett was born in St. Johns, P.Q., Oct 15, 1861, a son of Joseph and Falvi Bennett. Mrs. Bennett, who was before her marriage Celenda Mitchell, a daughter of Francis and Margaret Mitchell, was born in Gramby, P.Q., Oct. 22, 1862. Both families moved to this country when the children were small. Moses Bennett and Celenda Mitchell were married in Colrain, Mass. April 18, 1881. They moved from Colrain to Jacksonville in 1891 and have lived here since that time. For the past 35 years Mr. Bennett has conducted a barber shop and pool room in this town. Mr. Bennett is a member of the Jacksonville lodge of Odd Fellows. Mrs. Bennettt is a member of Rebekah lodge here. Eight children were born to the couple, seven of whom survive. They are: Edward M. of Hinsdale, Walter F. of Tunbridge, Vt., William G. of Pittsfield, Mass., Mamie R. of Jacksonville, Edith E. wife of William Gilbert of Charlemont, Mass., Delia F. wife of Wilber Hanks of Jacksonville, and Pearl L. wife of Charles Langmaid of Brattleboro. A son, Fraankie, died in infancy. Two sons. William and Walter, were in the World war, both serving overseas. Mrs. Bennett has two brothers and a sister, Levi Mitchell and Edward Mitchell of Colrain, and Mrs. Sarah Lamoreaux of Northfield, Mass., all of whom attended the obsevance, as did Mrs. Levi Mitchell.
