1919 my grandmother's scrapbook Date: 98-04-08 08:50:18 EDT From: tess@sover.net (Terry Perham) 1919 BRATTLEBORO LOCAL Harlan Pl Knowlton, 69, of 647 New Britain avenue, Hartford, Conn., formerly of Brattleboro, died yesterday afternoon in Hartford hospital, of bronchial pneumonia. Mr. Knowlton was born in Richester (Vt.), was a member of Wantistiquet lodge of Odd Fellows of Brattleboro, and married in 1876, Anna Kaye of this town, who died in 1879. He also was a member of the Patriotic Order, Sons of America, of Hartford, in which city he was employed by Robbins Brothers. Mr. Knowlton leaves a son, Clarence Al Knowlton of Hartford, two sisters, Mrs. E.S. Cooke of West Halifax and Mrs. jAzro Stockwell of Rochester, and a brother, Horace Knowlton of Los Angeles, Cal. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 3 o'clock in the Whitney-Chandler funeral tooms in Hartfoed and the body will be brought he on the 11:28 train Friday for burial in Prospect Hill cemetery, where a prayerand committal service will be held. *** BRATTLEBORO LOCAL The funeral of Mrs. Carrie E. (Hall) Kelsey, who died Monday morning, was held at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon in the home at 8 Spring street. Rev. Delmar E. TUDOR Dies of Influenza, Leaving Husband and Three Children Mrs. Viola Augusta (Hopkins)Tudor, 27, wife of Guy W. Tudor of Birge Street died at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon of pneumonia following influenza. Mrs. Tudor was one of three children of Mr. and Mrs. William Hopkins of Richmond, N.H. and was born there April 8, 1891. She took the nurse's training course at the Franklin County hospital in Greenfield, Mass., and graduated from there about seven years ago. After her graduation she came to Brattleboro to follow her profession. On Nov. 5, 1915, she married Guy W. Tudor of this town, and three children were born to them, Howard Hopkins, 2, Bernard Perry, 1, and Paul Ray, three months. Besides her husband and children Mrs. Tudor leaves her father and mother and two sisters, Mabel Hopkins, who lives at home and Mrs. Ethel Sackett of Boston. The funeral will be held at 10 o'clock Saturday forenoon at the home. Rev. Clark T. Brownell, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating, and the body will be taken to Richmond where a service will be held at the cemetery. ********************* MRS. PHILIP G. COLGROVE Wife of Well-Known Blacksmith Dies of Acute Angina Pectoris Mrs. Eva Blanche (Fisher) (Thomas) Colgrove, 21, wife of Philip G. Colgrove, died at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon in her home at 12 Prospect court after an illness of four weeks with grip, followed by an attack of acute angina pectoris Mrs. Colgrove was born in Marlboro, Feb. 1, 1897, a daughter of William and Julia (Ryder) Fisher. She attended the schools in Marlboro and after her first marriage she went to Saxtons River to live. She came from Saxtons River to Brattleboro, early in the summer of 1915 and became housekeeper for Mr. Colgrove, a well-known blacksmith, whose wife died in February, of that year. On Nov. 21 1915, she was married to Mr. Colgrove. Besides her husband, Mrs. Colgrove leaves her father and mother, who now live on South Main Street, one brother, George Fisher, two sisters, Miss Gertrude Fisher and Miss Clara Fisher, and three step-children, Henry R. Cecile R. and Joseph Paul Colgrove. The funeral will be held in the home tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Clarke T. Brownell of the Baptist church officiating, and the burial will take place in the Marlboro town cemetery.
