Dawley, 67, of 47 Pine street, auctioneer for 35 years, died last evening about 8:30 o'clock in the Melrose hospital. Mr. Dawley was admitted to the hospital two weeks ago to undergo an operation for a fractured knee cap and was making an excellent recovery. Death was caused by an embolus, or blook clot. His death came unexpectedly. Born in Mount Holly, May 26, 1858, he was one of a large family of children of Perry A and Rhoda (Barber) Dawley. His younger days were spent in Bellows Falls, Rutland and Westminster, moving to Brattleboro from Westminster five years ago last October. He was for several years conductor on the White Mountain train on the Vermont Valley railroad, running from Brattleboro to Windsor. For the past 29 years he had been general agent for the New England Fertilizer Co. of Boston, which position he held at the time of his death. He married Miss Addie B. Holden of Mount Holly Oct. 12, 1881. They had five children, three of whom survive: Mrs. A.L. Casey of Brattleboro, Mrs. H.E. Lane of Vernon, and Perry G. Dawley, jr., of Union City, N.J. He leaves six grandchildren, Ellen and Earl Dawley, Margaret, Augustine, and Norman Casey, and Addie Belle Lane. He also leaves three brothers and three sisters. He was a charter member of the Brattleboro lodge of Elks, and had been a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bellows Falls and the Knights of Pythias of Rutland, and a member of the Order of Railway Conductors. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at Moran & Rohde's funeral home.
