BROSNAHAN DIES OF PNEUMONIA Came Here from Ireland When Boy--Took Much Pride in Perfectly Matched Pairs of Work Horses Daniel M. Brosnahan, 80, one of the town's oldest and most respected Irish citizens, died at 9 o'clock last evening at his home at 195 Elliot street, where he had lived over 60 years. He had been in failing health since early last autumn, but had been about as usual until Wednesday, when he was taken ill with pneumonia, which with complications caused his death. Mr. Brosnahan came to this country when a small boy from County Kerry, Ireland, where he was born March 13, 1840. His parents Michael and Julia (Dineen) Brosnahan, shortly after arriving in Brattleboro, built the Brosnahan home on Elliot street, where he had since lived. He was the last surviving member of a family of seven children. He married Miss Mary Redding of Hinsdale, N.H. and three daughters were born to them, one of whom survives. She is Julia D., wife of James B. Meehan. Mrs. Brosnahan died in 1803. In Nov. 1904 he married Mary Tubbert of Brattleboro, who died Nov. 8 1924. At the time of her death, Mr. and Mrs. Meehan and children came here from Waterbury, Conn., to make their home with Mr. Brosnahan. Besides his daughter, he leaves two granddaughters, Mary and Julia, children of Mr. and Mrs. Meehan. Daniel Brosnahan worked for 28 years for the Estey Organ Co., driving team, after which he was in the general trucking business for himself, in Brattleboro many years, until he retired about six years ago. Mr. Brosnahan was a lover of horses and took much pride in having perfectly matched pairs. His work horses were among the best in town. He always kept a highly bred driving horse, and owned one at the time of his death. He was a member of St. Michael's Roman Catholic church, and the burial will take place in the family lot in St. Michael's cemetery. ************************************************************************ (c)1998, Terry Perham Courtesy of Terry Perham Hinsdale, NH tess@sover.net ************************************************* * * * * NOTICE: Printing the files within by non-commercial individuals and libraries is encouraged, as long as all notices and submitter information is included.
