A.L. ROHDE DIES SUDDENLY With Friends Wa Having Supper in a Keene Restaurant When Stricken-Funeral Thursday at 6 Mrs. Mary Ellen (McCarthy) Rohde, wife of Arthur L. Rohde of 32 Oak street, died suddenly about 6.30 last evening from heart trouble, with which she had been afflicted for some time. With several friends, she was having supper at Sawyer's Tavern in Keene, N.H., and near the end of the meal she suddenly fell forward on the table. Assistance was at once given the stricken woman, who was taken out on the lawn, and Dr. Robert W. Holmes of Keene was summond, but she was past medical aid when the physician arrved. Mr. Rohde, who was in Brattleboro at the time, was notified and he hurred to Keene. The body was brought here at midnight. Mrs. Rohde was born in Walpole, N.H., May 7 1884, a daughter of Michael and Julia (Sullivan) McCarthy. She went to Franklin, N.H. at an early age and later went to Burlington, where she attended St. Mary's convent. She came to Brattleboro about 26 years ago and became an operator at the New England telephone exchange, where she remained for three years. She then went to White River Junction and was operator there about the same length of time. On Oct. 31, 1909, she married Mr. Rohde at Brattleboro, and had lived here since that time, She was a member of the Brattleboro Woman's club and the Daughters of Isabella. At the time of her death she was a member of the ways and means committee of the Woman's Club, and she had served efficiently several years as a member of that committee and on the club's committee for providing places for the fresh air children from New York. Besides her husband, she leaves one brother, John C. McCarthy of Brattleboro. The funeral will be held in St. Michael's Roman Catholic church Thursday morning at 9 o'clock.
