ROBERTS OF JACKSONVILLE DIES Well-Known Resident Daily Performed Many Kind Acts--Charter Member of Unity Masonic Lodge (Special to the Reformer) JACKSONVILLE, Feb. 25. Henry Mortimer Roberts, 87, a well-known citizen of this town, died at his home yesterday morning at 8.30 o'clock. He suffered a partial shock about a week ago and had rapidly failed since that time. He was born in Jacksonville Jan. 29, 1839, a son of James and Johanna (Haskell) Roberts. The house in which he was born was built by his grandfather, who came here from Connecticut soon after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, being one of the first settlers when the surrounding country was wilderness. Mr. Roberts made his home on the family place until about 30 years ago, when he moved to the village. He attended school in the home district, and on June 26, 1870, he married Miss Charlotte Eastman, also of Jacksonville. Mrs. Roberts died in 1888. Mr. Roberts leaves a daughter, Edith, wife of A.L. Corse, and a son, Edward Henry Roberts, both of Orange, Mass. He also leaves one granddaughter, Mrs. Fred White, and three great-grandchildren. Graham, Winthrop and Adele White, all of Orange. He was a charter member of Unity lodge of Masons, being treasurer of that lodge over 20 years. He also had been elected master many times, but each time he refused the office. He was an attendant of the Universalist church. Mr. Roberts was greatly respected by everyone and he daily performed many kind acts, which were unknown to many. He had been faithfully cared for the past 11 years by his housekeeper, Mrs. Nettie Adams. The funeral will be held in the home Friday afternoon at 1.30 o'clock, Rev. George Morton officiating.
