VT Date: 7/28/98 3:16:18 PM Eastern Daylight Time from the Brattleboro Reformer Brattleboro, Windham County, VT 1925 MRS ELIZA ADAMS OF MYRTLE STREET DIES Was Member of Official Board of Methodist Church--Funeral in That Church Tomorrow at 2.30 Mrs. Eliza (Pond) Adams, 59, of 4 Myrtle street, widow of Merrill H. Adams, and resident of this town over 50 years, died yesterday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock in the Memorial hospital, where she had been 10 days. Death was due to a nervous breakdown and complications, including a shock. Mrs. Adams was born in Wardsboro Jan. 23, 1866, daughter of George and Lucy (Newell) Pond, and was one of a family of three children. When a small child she moved to Centerville with her parents, and her home had been in Brattleboro since that time. She married Merrill H. Adams of Wardsboro, Feb. 1, 1888, and they began housekeeping on Myrtle street. Two sons were born to them, Leslie M. Adams of Wausau, Wis., who is in the automobile accessories business, and Raymond H. Adams, who is employed by the Dunham Brothers Co. Mr. Adams died Feb. 18, 1905. Besides her sons, she leaves one brother, George Pond of Springfield, Mass., and three grndchildren. Robert and Elizabeth, children of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Adams and Francis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Adams. She had been a member of the First Methodist church since 1882, joining when Rev. A. B. Truax was pastor. She was a member of the official board of the church, the Mary Geddis Bible class, the Ladies' Aid society, and the missionary society of the church. She was also a member of Dennis Rebekah lodge and Sedgwick Woman's Relief corps. Funeral services will be held in the First Methodist church tomorrow afternoon at 2.30. Rev. J. K. Montgomery, the pastor, will officiate and burial will take place beside her husband in Morningside cemetery. The death of Mrs. Adams will be keenly felt not only by members of her family but by many friends to whom she had endeared herself. By her many kind acts toward others, she exemplified a beautiful character. She will be greatly missed in her church, where she worked devotedly and untiringly.
