SPEAR DIES OF GANGRENE Washington Street Resident Had Been Employed by Estey Organ Co. 52 Years Funeral Tomorrow Clum L. Spear, 78, a well-known resident of Brattleboro and an employee of the Estey Organ Co. the past 52 years, died in the Brattleboro Memorial hospital shortly after 9 o'clock last evening, death resulting from gangrene in one leg. He gave up work last week Tuesday and was taken to the hospital Saturday. He owned a house on Washington street over 40 years where he had made his home, the past four years boarding with Mr. and Mrs. George F. Anderson, who occupied one of the apartments in the house. Mr. Spear was born in Braintree July 10, 1847. He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Ida Wyatt of Brattleboro, sister of the late Arthur D. Wyatt, a well-known photographer here many years. She died several years ago. They had one adopted daughter, May Spear, who died at the age of 21 years. On Oct. 4, 1912, he married Mrs. Lena Griffin of New York. He leaves a niece, Mrs. Alice Chimn of Randolph. Mr. Spear was a member of Brattleboro lodge, No. 102, F. and A.M. of Oasis Emcampnent and Dennis Rebeckah lodge. He had been an attendant at the Universalist church many years. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at Mitchell's funeral home, Rev. Edwin P. Wood, pastor of Alls Souls church, will officiate and the Odd Fellows will conduct their ritual.
