NORCROSS Death Occurs This Forenoon in Home on Guilford Street-- Was Odd Fellow and Granger--Funeral Monday Herbert Smith Norcross, 57, died at 10.15 o'clock this morning at his home on Guilford street, of bronchial pneumonia. He was taken ill Sunday with bronchitis and pneumonia developed. His condition had been critical several days. Born in West Dummerston Dec. 15, 1868, his parents were Alonzo O. and Sarah (Nichols) Norcross. He was one of a family of six children. A sister, Mary, wife of Harry Horton of Kalamazoo, Mich., formerly of Brattleboro, died about 19 years ago. Mr. Norcross spent his younger days in West Dummerston, but he had lived in Brattleboro many years, working at his trade as a carpenter. He married Miss Esther Taylor of West Dummerston who died five years ago this month. On Sept. 1, 1925, he married Miss Elizabeth Mixner of Brattleboro, who survives. Besides his wife, he leaves his mother, who was spending the winter in his Guilford street home, and one brother, Frank A. Norcross of Vernon and three sisters, Mrs. Lorenzo S. McCrellis of Brattleboro, Mrs. Henry O. Halladay of West Brattleboro and Mrs. Julius Wood of Rochester, N.Y. He also leaves five nephews. Mr. Norcross was a member of Wantastiquet Lodge of Odd Fellows and Protective Grange. He was an attendant at the First Baptist church. A prayer service will be held Monday morning at 11 o'clock in the home on Guilford street, Rev. Albert H. Gage D.D., pastor of the First Baptist church officiating. The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock at Mitchell's funeral home, Rev. Delmar Trout of Springfield, Mass, former pastor of the First Universalist church in Brattleboro, will officiate.
