His own home farm, which he occupied for some ten years, embraced the meadow lands on the farm now owned by Benjamin S. Dana, and the farm below that, together with the northerly slope of Blake's Hill. His house, a log hut, stood on the hillock on the east side of the road, fronting the old barns below Mr. Merill's new house. He came to be regarded as something of a prosperous man in the town. Below him, about a mile, his brother James* cultivated, and probably occupied, land in the vicinity of the old Gallup farm."
