His marker is falling apart and the headstone is missing, his wife is buried next to him. He is a veteran of the Vicksburg Campaign, and was wounded at the battle of Red River. He served in the Union Army as a Corporal and his unit was under the command of General U.S. Grant. He is a founding father of the city of Omak and his son served on the first city council of Omak, WA. Mr. Stoddard was also a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and received a pension for his wounds. The cemetery has been abandon for many years and is in the N.E. portion of Omak approx 1.2 miles east of Wal-Mart Store just off of Engh Road. This cemetery is in very bad condition, people are dumping garbage and animal waste in the cemetery and a number of the headstones are missing. Some of the graves have sunken in, and will probably cave in completely as the soil is very sandy. The cemetery is covered in Sage Brush and weeds. It appears at some point many years ago some person, or persons did some work to salvage some of the graves. I visited this cemetery several weeks ago and was somewhat horrified at its condition.
