The deceased resided here for a number of years and will be remembered by many Ritzville people. Katherine Sauter LIND - The death of Mrs. Katherine Sauter marks the passing of another of Lind's early residents. Mrs. Sauter was born in Russia. Upon coming to the states she settled first in South Dakota and later on to a farm at Warden. She and her husband came to Lind more than 20 years ago. Mr. Sauter died 13 years ago, and the widow has made her home with a grandson, Fred Rennick. Old age was the cause of her death which came at the age of 85 years and three months. None of her 13 children survive her, nine having died during infancy and the others, Mrs. Reinhard Krueger, Mrs. Rennick, Christina Sauter and John Sauter died after maturity. She has 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Her sister and two brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the German Baptist church with the Rev. E. Schoenleber of Odessa officiating. Interment was a the Lind cemetery beside the body of her husband. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 21, 1932, issue None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 28, 1932, issue Mrs. Carl Braun Mrs. Carl Braun, 66, succumbed Sunday evening about 9 o'clock at her home in this city, following a stroke last Wednesday. The funeral was conducted Wednesday afternoon from the Lutheran church, of which the deceased was a member, by the pastor, Rev. E. A. Rein. Interment was in the family plot of the church cemetery. Caroline Rutz was born in Germany July 7, 1866, and came to America in 1890, settling at Naperville, Ill. It was here that she was married on May 7, 1893, to Carl Braun. They came to Ritzville in 1899 and this has since been their home. In addition to the husband, the deceased is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Hattie Streeter and Mrs. Anna Kohler, both of Ritzville, and Mrs. Minnie Zundle of Ruff, as well as 12 grandchildren. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 4, 1932, issue Former Operator Killed Miss Bertha Roof, 38, Northern Pacific operator here about 15 years ago, was fatally injured Thursday when the car in which she was riding skidded in the ditch at the intersection of the Columbia Basin and Sunset highways out of Spokane a short distance. Miss Roof failed to regain consciousness, her skull being fractured, and she died Sunday. Brother Mrs. Stark drowns WASHTUCNA - The Washtucna community was saddened to hear of the death of Mrs. Bill Stark's brother, Joseph Schintgen. The young man drowned while swimming in the Pend Oreille river at Dalkena. Mr. and Mrs. Stark drove up to Newport where the funeral took place. Mr. Schintgen is also survived by another sister, Mrs. George Stark, and a brother, Fred Schintgen, who came from California upon receipt of the bad news. At the time Mr. and Mrs. George Stark were farming the Bill Stark place, the two Schintgen boys lived here with their sister and Joe attended school in Washtucna. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 11, 1932, issue None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 18, 1932, issue Brought Here For Burial The body of Mrs. Henry Grauman, 62, was brought to Ritzville Wednesday and interred in the family plot in the local cemetery. Mrs. Grauman, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weiend, former pioneers of this district, died at the home of her son, Dr. Arthur Grauman, in Seattle on Aug. 17, and the family will be remembered by many people of this community. Deceased was the aunt of Harold Schnell, who was recently killed in California and also brought here for interment. Former Ruff Man Killed The funeral of Jacob Schaal, 49, former Ruff farmer, was held at Dusty, in Whitman county, Sunday, Rev. Geo. Zocher of Ritzville having charge of the service. Burial was in the church cemetery at Dusty. Mr. Schaal, for many years a farmer of the Ruff district, moved to Olympia with his family last fall and they were members of Rev. Zocher's church there. Deceased had been working through harvest on the ranch of Henry Stueckle, a brother-in-law, near Lacrosse. Last Thursday he was fatally injured when his jacket caught on a shaft of a stationary rig. The man was mangled and all the clothes torn from his body before he could be liberated. He died shortly after being taken to the hospital in Colfax. He is survived by his widow and six children. Warren Gough LIND - Friends of the Warren A. Gough family formerly of Lind were very sorry to hear of the death of Mr. Gough last Friday in Spokane. Mr. Gough was at one time manager of the Portland Flour Mill company's mill in Lind. The family moved away after the closing of the mill. Mr. Gough died at the age of 57, after having been a resident of Spokane for two and a half years. He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Harrington. He is survived by his wife, Grace; one daughter, Esther; a son, Jim; four sisters, and one brother. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. from the Smith Funeral Home with Dr. Joel Harper officiating. Interment was in Riverside Park cemetery in Spokane. Olivia Eckelberry Seriously ill only a few hours, Mrs. Charles Eckelberry, 67, mother of Mrs. Elver Huse of Lind, passed away Thursday afternoon, Aug. 11, a the Huse home in Lind. Heart trouble was the cause of death. Mrs. Eckelberry, nee Olivia Belle Yeisley, was born in Gallatin, Davis County, Mo., Dec. 8, 1865. She was married to Charles N. Eckelberry in October 1885. She was an early settler of the Lind country, coming here with her husband and children in 1898 to homestead what is now known as the old Woodward place, which lies east of the main Woodward ranch. They returned to Missouri in 1906 to make their home in Kidder, Mr. Eckelberry dying there April 29, 1929. Last February, Mrs. Eckelberry again came west, making her home with Mr. and Mrs. Elver Huse until her death. Mrs. Eckleberry was a member of the Baptist chruch at Kidder, Mo. Surviving are five daughters and four sons: Mrs. Ida Howard, Mrs. Olivine Snyder, Mrs. Elsie Bradley, Mrs. Lena Feurt, Warren, John and Charles Eckelberry, all of whom live in the middle west, and Mrs. Clella Huse and Glen Eckelberry in Lind. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, a half-sister, Anna Hawkins; a half-brother, Ernest Yeisley, well known farmer south of Lind. The body, accompanied by Mrs. Huse and Glen Eckelberry, was sent early Sunday morning to Kidder, Mo., where funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 17, as many relatives and friends reside there. Interment will be made in the Kidder cemetery by the side of Mr. Eckelberry. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 25, 1932, issue Margaret Ellen McQuade Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Ellen McQuade, 84, mother of J. A. McQuade of Ritzville, were held at Walla Walla Saturday. Mrs. McQuade had been a resident of Washington since October, 1878. She was born at Zanesville, Ohio, and came west at an early age, being one of the pioneers of the Walla Walla district. Surviving the deceased are eight children, seventeen grandchildren and ten great-grand- children. Frank Schroeder Frank Schoeder, 44, nephew of Mrs. Percy B. Hunt of Ritzville, passed away Friday at San Francisco. The body accompanied by the mother, Mrs. Kate Schroeder and a sister, is being shipped to Ritzville for burial. The deceased was born and raised at Ritzville, the son of Ferdinand Schroeder, a pioneer who passed away here 25 years ago. He was an employee of the Ritzville Trading Company during his residence here. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, September 1, 1932, issue None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, September 8, 1932, issue Mrs. Eli Baruth LIND - Word was received here of the death of Mrs. Eli Baruth, who formerly was Elizabeth Bryson of this city. She is the member of an old pioneer family who formerly resided here. Her home was in Spokane. She died at the age of 38. Those who survive her besides her husband are her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Bryson, and a sister, Miss Anna Bryson, of Cheney. Two other sisters are Mrs. Ada Wardhurst of Tyler, Wash., and Mrs. Lena Melchisevek of Spokane. Her brothers are Roy Bryson of Medical Lake and Robert Bryson of California. Funeral services were held Saturday, with the Rev. Dr. Henry Van Winkle officiating. Interment was made Sunday afternoon in the family plot at Dayton. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, September 15, 1932, issue Jake Koch Dies Suddenly EUGENE, Or., Sept. 10 - Jake M. Koch, 45, died suddenly at his home here yesterday. He had been in ill health for about a year and a half, but his death was unexpected. He was engaged as a window decorator. He was born in Culbertson, Neb., March 24, 1887, and was married in Spokane, Wash., in 1910. He resided for 19 years at Ritzville, Wash., coming to Eugene in 1924. He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Ritzville and of the Elks lodge and Congregational church of Eugene. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Euroria Koch, and two children, Mildred Katherine and Floyd Raymond, both at home. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, September 22, 1932, issue Takes Body East The body of Jake Koch, who died suddenly last week at Eugene, Ore., was taken to Lawrence, Kansas, by Mrs. Koch for burial.
