Geschke Buried Today Mrs. Julius Geschke, 81, a resident of Adams county since 1892 who died Monday morning at her son's home in Benge, was buried in the Emanuel Lutheran cemetery here this afternoon following funeral services at the Emanuel Lutheran churh. The Rev. Edward A. Rein conducted the services. Mrs. Geschke had been in ill health for a number of years. She suffered a paralytic stroke six years ago from which she never recovered. Her death occurred at 6:30 a.m. Monday. Mathilda Geschke nee Eisermann was born in Schumadel, Germany, March 11, 1854, and came to this country with her husband and their family in 1892, settling in Adams county after a short stop in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Geschke took up a homestead 11 miles northwest of Ritzville. Her husband died in 1912. She moved to Ritzville in 1920 to make her home with her son, Paul, for the next ten years. For the last five years she has divided her time between two daughters, Mrs. Gretha Mulligan of Pasco, Mrs. Minnie Kalkwarf of Ritzville, and a son, Fred, of Benge at whose home she died. She is survived by five sons, Herman Schulz of Schrag, C. L. Schultz of Walsh, Alberta, Will Geschke of Calgary, Alta., Fred Geschke, Benge, and Paul Geschke of Ritzville; three daughters, Mrs. Gretha Mulligan, Pasco, Mrs. Alma Dehnel, Fairfield, Ida., and Mrs. Minnie Kalkwarf, Ritzville; a brother, Reinhart Eisermann of Germany, 32 grandchlidren and six great grandchildren. Last Rites Held for Mrs. Heater Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Heater, 77, pioneer Adams county resident who died Monday at her home here, were held this morning at the Methodist Episcopal church here. The Rev. Richard Decker of Ritzville and the Rev. H. H. Attenborough of Waitsburg officated. She was buried in the Ritzville cemetery. Mrs. Heater was suddenly stricken with a heart attack Monday morning and died at 10 a.m. Elizabeth Heater nee Snyder was born in Zanesville, Ohio, in December, 1858. She came to Adams county with her husband and their family in 1889 and settled on a ranch in the Rattlesnake Flats district. They have resided in this district ever since. She was a member of the Methodist church and always took an active part in its affairs. Besides her widower, Edward Heather, she is survived by three sons. Elliott, of Grandview, Wash.; Alvin of Merced, Calif., and Earl, a geologist, of Baba, New Guinea; a daughter, Mrs. Nellie Wright of Billings, Mont. Three brothers, William Snyder, pioneer Washtucna merchant; Dr. Charles D. Snyder of Baltimore, Md., and Dr. George Snyder of San Francisco; and a sister, Mrs. Christina Sylvester of Seattle. Services Held For J. K. Fields HATTON - Funeral services for J. K. Fields, Hatton pioneer, were held in Spokane at the Smith Funeral Home Friday. His body was laid to rest in Greenwood cemetery, Spokane. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, January 9, 1926, issue Francis Davidson HOOPER - (Too late for last week) Word came from Colfax on Friday of the death of Francis Davidson, father of Henry Davidson, who had been ill for the past month at the Colfax hospital. The community extends their heartfelt sympathy to the Henry Davidson family in the loss of their father and grandfather. Mrs. M. Roney Is Buried Here Mrs. Mable Roney of Sandpoint, Ida., 57, sister of Harry Schuler of Ritzville, was buried in the Ritzville cemetery here Monday following funeral services at 2 p.m. at the Haight funeral parlors with the Rev. E. A. Rein officiating. Mrs. Roney had been in ill health for a number of years and died in a Spokane hospital. Doctors said a brain tumor was the immediate cause of her death. Mable Roney nee Schuler, was born May 21, 1878, in Pennsylvania, and came west at an early age. She is survived by her husband, John Roney, of Sandpoint, two daughters, Mrs. Hattie Taylor of Basin, Wyo., and Charlotte Roney, now living with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Holden in Ritzivlle, and a son, Harry Holden of Ritzville. Services Held For H. L. Franz Funeral services for Henry L. Franz, 53, Ruff pioneer who died Jan. 2 in Spokane, were held last Sunday at the Mennonite church with the Rev. Galle officiating. Burial was in the Menno cemetery. He died at St. Luke's hospoital, Spokane, after a short illness. Henry Franz was born June 6, 1882, in South Dakota and came to Grant county in 1902, residing on a farm near Ruff ever since. He was a brother of Leonard L. Franz of Ritzville. He is survived by his widow, four sons, Herbert, Harold, Alvin, and Earl, all at the home; two daughters, Edna and Bernice, at home, and a brother, Leonard, Ritzville. Heater Funeral Will Be Friday Funeral services for Edward J. Heater, 78, pioneer resident of Adams county who died Tuesday in Grandview, Wash., will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Espicopal church here with the Revs. H. Attenborough and Richard Decker officiating. Burial will be in the Ritzville cemetery. Mr. Heater died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday at the home of his son, Elliott Heater, in Grandview. He had gone there last week after the funeral of his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Heater, who died at her home here Monday of last week. Death was due to an intestinal obstruction, according to attending physicians. He had been in good health until recently. Edward J. Heater was born Dec. 27, 1857, in Circleville, Ohio, where he spent his boyhood and early manhood. On Aug. 16, 1877, he married Margaret Elizabeth Snyder of Malta, Ohio, and to this union seven children were born, four of whom are still living. The couple moved to Adams county in October, 1889, settling on a ranch 18 miles south of here. In 1913, they retired and moved to Ritzville where they have lived ever since. He is survived by three sons, Elliott Heater, Grandview; Albert Heater, Merced, Calif., and Earl Heater, Babo, New Guinea, one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Wright, Billings, Mont.; three brothers, Sam Heater of Walla Walla, Harry Heater and Jake Heater, both of Dayton, Ohio, and 13 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. All the children with the exception of Earl will be here for the funeral. The late Mrs. Heater was buried last Thursday in the Ritzville cemetery following funeral services at the Methodist church here. Services for Mr. Heater will be a replica of those for Mrs. Heater. Mrs. Heater was born in Malta, Ohio, and not Zanesville as stated in last week's Journal-Times. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, January 16, 1936, issue None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, January 23, 1936, issue Service Held For Dr. Aker A short funeral service for Dr. Marion C. Aker, 29, who died Monday in Spokane, was held at the Smith funeral parlors in Spokane at 1 p.m. this afternoon, after which the body was shipped to Indiana for burial. He will be buried in Indianapolis, Ind., where he attended medical college. Dr. Aker died Monday morning at 3:25 a.m. from septicemia or blood poisoning. He had been in the Sacred Heart hospital since Dec. 27 and was recovering rapidly until he suffered a sudden setback last Thursday. The infection started while he was performing a tonsil operation late in December. He had an abrasion on the right index finger of which he was unaware when he began the operation. A bad case of blood poisoning followed and pneumonia set in several days before he died. Dr. Marion C. Aker was born April 14, 1904, in Putnam county, Indiana, where he spent his boyhood. He took his academic work at the University of Indiana, Bloomington, Ind., and graduated from the University's medical college in Indianapolis. Dr. Aker came to Spokane in July 1934, to begin his internship at Sacred Heart hospital and finished in July of last year. He came to Ritzville in August, taking over the practice of Dr. W. F. Armann who retired. A brother, Dr. Charles Aker of Mooresville, Ind., arrived in Spokane Tuesday to accompany the body back to Indiana and was in Ritzville yesterday. Miss Joan Dence, Dr. Aker's nurse, has been appointed administratrix of his estate. Besides his brother Charles, he is survived by his father, George Aker, Central Park, Ind., and a sister, Mrs. J. B. Oyler, Tipton, Ind. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, January 30, 1936, issue Services Held For Mrs. Horch Funeral services for Mrs. Maria Christina Horch, pioneer Adams county resident, were held Monday afternoon from the Emanuel Lutheran church in Ritzville with interment in the Lutheran cemetery. Rev. E. A. Rein officiated at the services. Mrs. Horch died Thursday, Jan. 23, at her home after a short illness. Marie Horch, nee Pfeifer, was born July 20, 1868, in Warrenburg, Russia. On Oct. 28, 1885, she was married to August Horch at Warrenburg. Six children were born to the Horchs, of whom three survive their mother: Marie, Mrs. Elmo Irvin of Ritzville; Anna, Mrs. Ora Shileder of Ritzville, and Molly, Mrs. Howard Pettijohn of California. Besides her widower and three daughters, she is survived by one brother, Philip Pfeifer of Marlin, Wash.; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Five years after their marriage the Horchs came from Russia to Lincoln, Neb., and in 1898 they took up a farm near Ritzville. In 1910 they retired from active farming and moved to Ritzville, where they had lived since. Mrs. Horch was 67 years old at the time of her death. Carl Bierman Dies In South Funeral services for Carl Bierman, 45, who died at his home in Oakland, Cal., will be held at the Lutheran church in Ritzville Saturday, according to word received here today. Complete details were not available at press time. The former Ritzville resident died Tuesday after an extended illness. His widow, Alice, is expected to arrive from the south today. Mr. Bierman was a member of a pioneer Adams county family and has many friends and relatives here. Immediate relatives who survive him are his widow; his mother, Mrs. William Bierman of Ritzville; five sisters, Mrs. Ardell Dryden of Ellensburg; Mrs. Merrick Miller of Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Roy Smith of Sprague; and the Misses Clara and Mabel Bierman of Ritzville, and four brothers, William, Henry, Richard and Edward Bierman, all of Ritzville. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, February 4, 1936, issue Mrs. I. Garoute Is Buried Here Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Garoute, 65, resident and business woman of Ritzville for many years who died last Friday here, were held Sunday at the Methodist Episcopal church with the Rev. R. D. Decker officiating. Burial was in the Ritzville cemetery. Mrs. Garoute had been in ill health for some time. She was visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs. J. I. Farrier, when her death occurred. Death was due to apolexy. She was the owner of the Little Percolater cafe here until a few days before she sold the restaurant to Ira Smith. She had planned to take a long vacation after the sale of her restaurant. Mrs. Garoute was born in Lexington, Ore., Jan. 25, 1870, and lived there until she was a young woman. She and her husband had lived here on and off for the past 25 years. She has no known survivors besides her husband and sister. Grant A. Stewart Dies In Spokane Grant A. Stewart, former state representative from Adams, Lincoln and Ferry counties, (1933 regular and special sessions) died in a Spokane hospital Jan. 19, according to a report received by Richard B. Ott, former seat mate of Grant Stewart. Grant had been seriously ill for several weeks and I was deeply grieved to learn of his death said Mr. Ott. Mr. Stewart was an amiable character and a dependable and experienced legislator. He served in the lower house in 1914 coming as a respresentative from Benton county. In 1923 to 1927 he served as representative from Ferry County. In 1931 he was again sent to the legislature from Ferry county and in 1933 he served as one of the two representatives from the new 8th district. Grant Stewart was 72 years of age. His life was spent as a mining engineer and as a public servant. He has resided in the state of Washington since 1872. He is survived by his wife, Carrie A. Stewart, Spokane; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Williams, Portland, Ore.; two (a line is missing here) five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 o'clock Friday at Hazen & Jaegers, Spokane. Interment will be at Greenwood cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, February 6, 1936, issue None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, February 13, 1936, issue Oscar N. Olson Dies In Seattle Funeral services for Oscar N. Olson, 19, Ritzville boy who died last Saturday in Seattle were held here Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Methodist Episcopal church with the Rev. Richard Decker officiating. Interment was in the Ritzville cemetery. Mr. Olson was stricken with spinal meningitis only a few day before his death. He was attending a diesel engineering school in Seattle at the time of his death. Oscar N. Olson was born in Ritzville June 6, 1916. He attended the Ritzville schools and was graduated from the Ritzville high school last spring. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Carl Olson, and a brother, Julius Olson. His father died in 1933. Gus Kison Mr. Gus Kison, who was operated on last week in a Spokane hospital, died Wednesday. He is survived by his wife, Kate, two daughters, Violet Mary and Viola May, two brothers, Dan and Simon Kison of Spokane, three sisters, Mrs. Alvina Stokke and Mrs. Bertha Rich of Spokane, Mrs. Emily Lobe of Olympia, a half sister, Mrs. George Achizger of Spokane and his mother, Mrs. Rosena Kison of Spokane. Funeral services were held Saturday from the Alwin chapel at the Hazen and Jaeger funeral home. Interment was at the Riverside park. The Rev. Roy Smuland and Rev. Roy Rashke officiated. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, February 20, 1936, issue Charles Wilcox Buried Monday Funeral services for Charles L. Wilcox, 71, who died last Friday at his home here, were held Monday afternoon at the Haight funeral parlors with the Rev. Richard Decker officiating. He was buried in the Ritzville cemetery following a short grave service conducted by the C. J. Newland Post No. 51 of the American Legion. He had not been ill and death was unexpected. He died during the night from a heart attack. Charles L. Wilcox was born May 30, 1864, in Mendon, Ill. He served in the Spanish- American war as a private in Troop F of the third regiment of the U. S. volunteers calvary and was discharged at Camp Groh, Thomas, Ga., Sept. 8, 1898. He came to Ritzville over 40 years ago and has lived here ever since, being employed by the Ritzville Flour mills until he retired to private life 10 years ago. Surviving him are his widow, Catherine, a son, Alvin, University of Washington student, and a stepson, J. J. Burfiend, Olympia. Former Resident Dies In Olympia Mrs. Jacob Brown received word this week of the death of her sister, Mrs. John Bech, 88, Olympia. Mrs. Bech was a resident of Ritzville at one time. She lived here almost 20 years ago in the Ruff district. Funeral services were held this afternoon in Olymia for Mrs. Bech. Her death was due to old age. She is survived by three sons, John Lobe of Washtucna, and Solomon and Fred Lobe of Olympia, three sisters, Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Fred Schultz, and Mrs. D. O. Roloff, Ritzville. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, February 27, 1936, issue Funeral Sunday For Mrs. E. Allen Funeral services for Mrs. Edward Allen, 66, who died Thursday morning at her home here, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Episcopal church here, with the Rev. Richard Decker officiating. Burial will be in the Ritzville cemetery. Mrs. Allen had been ill for three weeks and had been confined to her bed since last Thursday. Death was caused by complications following a septic sore throat. Mrs. Edward Allen was born Feb. 12, 1870, in Minonk, Ill. She came to Ritzville in 1886 with her family and has lived here ever since. She was married to Mr. Allen in 1912 in Ritzville. Mrs. Allen was a member of the Rebekah lodge and the Royal Neighbors and a life long member of the Methodist church. She is survived by her husband, Edward L. Allen; three sisters, Mrs. Will Scheel of Ritzville; Mrs. Mattie Edwards, Tekoa, Mrs. Laura Shenk, East Orange, N.J.; one brother, Henry Ahlers of Ritzville; a son, Gard Trantum, Spokane, and six grandchildren. Alex Mills Dies; Funeral Saturday Funeral services for Alex Mills of Sprague, father of Mrs. R. B. Ott, who died this morning, will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Congregational church in Sprague. Futher details of his death were not available before going to press this afternoon. S. H. Horner Buried At Goldendale OTHELLO - S. H. Horner, 77, Othello pioneer who died last Thursday in Ellensburg, was buried this week in Goldendale beside his wife who died a short time ago. He left two sons, S. Horner of Goldendale, and Prof. M. J. Horner of Othello. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, March 5, 1936, issue Mrs. H. L. Leupp Buried Today Burial services for Mrs. H. J. Leupp, 48, who died yesterday at her home here were held this afternoon at the Ritzville cemetery with the Rev. Richard Decker officiating. Mrs. Leupp had been ill for almost a month but death was unexpected. She died at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday. Death was due to chronic myocarditis (heart trouble). Florence Wanda Leupp was born March 23, 1887, in Chicago, Ill. She had lived in Ritzville only about nine months. She was married to H. J. Leupp last June. Mrs. Leupp leaves no survivors other than her husband. Mrs. J. W. Sitton WASHTUCNA - Washtucna heard with sorrow Friday evening of the death that afternoon of Mrs. J. W. Sitton. Mrs. Sitton had been recovering from an operation for gallstones and was at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. L. Breneman in Spokane. Death was caused by heart failure. All of her immediate relatives were with her at the time. Funeral services were held Monday morning at the chapel of the Hazen and Jaeger funeral home of Spokane and interment was at Greenwood. The Rev. D. A. Russell officiated and services were conducted by the Audubon chapter of the Eastern star. Mrs. Sitton is survived by her husband, J.W. Sitton, two daughters, Mrs. Breneman and Mrs. Merlyn Leonard and four sons, Irl of Spokane, Fey, Ray and Owen of Washtucna and 11 grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. J. E. Brown of Garden Grove, Calif., and a brother. A. R. Helme, also survive. Laura Luella Sitton was born July 1, 1869, at New Hartford, Ill., and lived in Pike county until coming to this country with her husband in February, 1899. They were married in 1891. She joined the Christian church when a small girl and had been a member ever since. She was also a member of Emerald Rebekah, order of the Eastern Star and of Rimrock Grange. Mrs. Sitton was one of the most loved and respected members of the community, a matriarch in the best sense of the word. She was faithful and hard working member of her church and her lodges and a highly valued friend. Her family have the deepest sympathy of all who knew her. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, March 12, 1936, issue Joe Telecky Infant Dies of Pneumonia Funeral services for Joel Dale Telecky, age 4 months, 3 days, were held Monday afternoon at the Haight mortuary, with the Rev. Richard Decker officiating. Burial was in the Ritzville cemetery. Joel Dale Telecky, born Nov. 4, 1935, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Telecky, had been ill but three days with pneumonia. He died Saturday afternoon. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, March 19, 1936, issue Mrs. Boon Barry Of Benge Dies Funeral services for Mrs. Boon Barry, 74, Benge pioneer, who died this week at the Ritzville hospital, were held this afternoon at the Haight funeral parlors with the Rev. Richard Decker officiating. Burial was in the Ritzville cemetery. Mrs. Boon Barry died Monday morning in the Ritzville hospital. She had been ill for some time at her home two miles north of Benge, but was not taken to the Ritzville hospital until last week. She was "Grandma" Barry to all who knew her. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Addie Cunningham and Mrs. Nellie Killborn of Spokane; three sons, Henry of Idaho; Ora, Spokane, and Irvin of Hooper; two brothers, Jake Gates of Seattle, George Gates of Benge, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
