Haase, Pioneer Resident, Passes John Haase, Sr., 74, pioneer resident of Adams county, died Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. in a Spokane hospital from chest complications from which he has been suffering for some time. He entered the hospital Tuesday. Funeral arrangements have not been made at this time. He is survived by his widow, six daughters, four sons, one brother in Ritzville and one sister in Russia. A full obituary will be published in next week's issue. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 9, 1936, issue Last Rites Held For John Haase Funeral services for John Haase, 74, who died July 1 in a Spokane hospital, were held Sunday at the Philadelphia Congregational church with the Rev. H. Nuetzmann officiating. Burial was in the Ritzville cemetery. Mr. Haase was born Aug. 10, 1862, in Mathildendorf, South Russia. His father died when he was 13 years old and went out to make his living at the age of 15. He served in the Russian army five years after which he married Frederika Hoffman, who died in 1897. The following year Mr. Haase was again united in marriage and came to the United States in 1902 and made his home on a farm five miles west of Ralston. Seven years ago he left his farm to live in Ritzville. Besides his widow, he is survived by four sons, Edward, Neppel; John, Ralston; Leo, Olympia; and Richard, Ralston; six daughters, Edith, Salem, Ore.; Bertha, Plymouth Falls, Ore.; Mrs. T. L. Pierce, Yakima; Mrs. Cleo McCarty, Portland, Ore., and Marie, Ritzville; one brother, one sister and 16 grandchildren. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 16, 1936, issue Rev. H. G. Meske Buried In Lind On Wednesday LIND - Funeral services for the Rev. Henry George Meske, 54, pastor of the Lind Lutheran church for the past 13 years who died at Cameron, Ida., last Saturday were held Wednesday in Lind. The Reverends Wittrock of Walla Walla and Ludwick of Portland conducted the funeral services. Burial was in the Lind cemetery. He was born in Oshkosh, Wis., June 3, 1882. He graduated from St. Paul Lutheran Seminary in 1907 and married in 1907. He served a year and a half at LaGrande, Ore., and at Farmington, Wash., for 14 years before coming to Lind. Rev. Meske is survived by his widow, three sons, Henry, Ted and Erhardt; four brothers, Frank, Fred, August, Albert; and one sister, Hulda. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 23, 1936, issue Former Resident Succumbs To Stroke Louis Tiede of Sharon Prairie, Spokane, former Ritzville resident, suffered a paralytic stroke Tuesday morning and died shortly after in a Spokane hospital. Funeral arrangements are being made by Hazen-Jaeger Funeral home, Spokane. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and father. George Schmidt Dies At Walla Walla George Schmidt, 67, former Ritzville farmer, died at a Walla Walla hospital June 30, according to word received here today. He was born in Russia and came to the United States when he was 16 years old, living in Ritzville a long time before retiring and moving to Walla Walla. Last Rites Held For C. J. Schmidt Funeral services for Charles J. Schmidt, 80, pioneer Adams county farmer who died Monday morning at his home here, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Emanuel Lutheran church with the Rev. E. A. Rein officiating. Burial was in the Ritzville Lutheran cemetery. Mr. Schmidt had been in ill health for a month or more and his death was due to a paralytic stroke. He died Monday at 11:45 a.m. Charles John Schmidt was born in Germany Jan. 5, 1856. He came to this country in 1881, settling for six years in Minneapolis. He came west to Adams county in 1887 and married Catherine Hardung July 25, 1893. Mr. Schmidt lived on his farm near here for a number of years before moving to town and retiring about 12 years ago. Surviving him besides his widow are four sons, William, Henry, Albert and Harold, all of Ritzville; five daughters, Mrs. Pauline Kiehn, Ritzville, Mrs. Clara Unger, Spokane, Mrs. Rosa Miessner, Coulee Dam, Mrs. Frieda Selcho and Violet Schmidt, Ritzville; and nine grandchildren. Franz Baby Dies LIND - The three-months-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Franz died Wednesday at the Deaconess hospital in Spokane. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Mennonite church at 3 o'clock with Rev. Galle of Odessa officiating. The infant died from bronchial pheumonia. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 30, 1936, issue Achziger Rites Will Be Friday Funeral services for Mrs. John G. Achziger, 85, one of Adams county's oldest pioneers who died last Tuesday, will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Philadelphia Congregational church with the Rev. H. Neutzmann officiating. Burial will be in the Ritzville cemetery. Mrs. Achziger had been ill for 14 weeks, her death resulting from old age. She would have been 86 years old August 5. Katherine Elizabeth Achziger was born Aug. 5, 1850, in Kolb, Russia. She was united in marriage to John George Achziger in 1867. In 1885 they came to Ritzville and homesteaded a farm six miles west of here. They left the farm in 1889 to live in Ritzville. Three years later, Mr. Achziger passed away. She was the oldest member of the Philadelphia Congregational church in Ritzville. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Percy Hunt and Mrs. Alice Thiel, Ritzville, Mrs. Kate Schroeder, Seattle; a son, Jacob, Modesto, Calif.; 27 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, two children who died in early infancy in Russia, two sons and four daughters. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 6, 1936, issue E. H. Dowland LIND - Word has been received here from Mrs. T. C. Lenny of Opportunity of the death of her father, E. H. Dowland, at the home of another daughter, Mrs. Ethel Smith, at Forrest, Ill. Mr. Dowland was a retired grocer. He was in business in Lind and Spokane for 25 years, later making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Lenny. Interment was made in West Bend, Wis., his birthplace. Mrs. G. Lentzner LIND - Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Gustav Lentzner, wife of the former Rev. Gustav Lentzner. She passed away at the home of her children in Milwaukee, Wis., where they have been visiting. Mr. and Mrs. Lentzner are both remembered here, having lived in Lind for quite a number of years while Rev. Lentzner was pastor of the German Baptist church. Mrs. Miller's Father Dies; Buried Today Funeral services for Richard Smythe Walters, 76, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. O. Miller, Monday, were held at Whittier, Calif. Interment will be in Rose Hill masoleum at Whittier. His death was caused by a cerebal hemorrhage, suffered last Wednesday, from which he never recovered. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. F. M. Davis of Fort Branch, Ind., and Mrs. Miller of Ritzville; one son, T. R. Walters of Whittier, Calif., and one brother, James Walters, of St. Paul, Minn., and two grandchildren. Mrs. Miller accompanied the body to California. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 13, 1936, issue Mrs. C. Eckhardt Passes In Odessa Mrs. Conrad Eckhardt, 69, mother of Mrs. Carl Eckhardt, Ritzville, died last night at her home in Odessa, according to word received here this morning. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Odessa German Congregational church with Rev. Walker officiating. Victor Morrison Of Lind Passes LIND - Funeral services for Victor L. Morrison, 51, resident of the Lind district for the past 34 years who died last Sunday, were held this week at the Methodist Episcopal church with the Rev. Johnson officiating. Burial was at the Peone Prairie cemetery near Mead, Wash. Victor LaVerne Morrison was born in Minnesota Sept. 27, 1884. He moved west with his parents when a young man and settled with them on a homestead in Spokane county. He was a member of the M. E. church, a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge for 14 years and a member of the Order of United Artisans. Surviving him are five brothers, Richard, Ralph and Floyd of Lind, Bernard and Clayton of Tacoma, and two sisters, Mrs. Winnie Hubbard of Rose Lodge, Ore., and Mrs. Helen Parish of Lind. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 20, 1936, issue Mayor Of Lind Answers Call LIND - Daniel Krehbiel, 69, mayor of Lind, died at his home here at 3 p.m. Tuesday of heart trouble. Mr. Kriehbiel had been ill only a short time. He was a pioneer of this region, having resided here 45 years. He was born in Bavaria, Germany, and received his schooling and college work there. He came to the United States in 1881, living two years in Illinois and eight years in Kansas before coming to Adams county, Wash., in 1891. On arriving here he homesteaded on a place four miles northeast of Lind, where he farmed. He married May Schragg at Menno in 1901. He moved into town in 1907 and was connected with the Lind Hardware company two years. He then entered the real estate and insurance business in which he had since been engaged. Since 1926 he was a member of the firm of Krehbiel & Brittenham. Since 1929 Mr. Krehbiel had served as mayor and previously had served two terms, or more than any other mayor. He was a member of the Mennonite church and for 20 years was a deacon in the church at Menno, near here. Surviving Mr. Krehbiel are three sons, Walter, Danny and Ulrich, here; five daughters, Mrs. Katherine Franz, Santa Monica, Cal., and Ruth, Gertrude, Della and Marie, here; two brothers, John and Chris, Lind, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Vogt, Philadelphia, Pa., and Mrs. Susan Neare, Lind. Mrs. Krehbiel died in 1928. Funeral services were held this afternoon from the church at Menno, the Rev. M. J. Galle, Odessa, officiating. Burial was at Menno. Mrs. Schrenk Passes LIND - Mrs. fredrica Schrenk of Lind, 83, died Monday evening in the St. Ignatius hospital at Colfax. She died on her birthday anniversary after an illness of three months. She was born in South Russia, Aug. 17, 1835, died Aug. 17, 1936. Mrs. Schrenk has lived in Lind since 1902. Mr. J. Schrenk died 14 years ago. She is survived by five sons, Jacob, N.D.; Christ, Lind; Emanuel, Idaho; Carl, Dusty, Henry, Salem, Ore.; two daughters, Mrs. John Roth of Lind and Mrs. G. G. Maier of Spangle; and 56 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at the Christian church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jacob Roth of Odessa, and the Rev. R. M. Klingbeil of Colfax officiating. Interment to be at the Lind cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 27, 1936, issue Frederick Bauer Answers Call Following an illness of several months, Frederick Bauer, 69, a pioneer of this region, died at his home in Ritzville at 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Mr. Bauer was born in Kolb, Russia, June 27, 1867. When nine years of age he came to America with his parents and settled in Franklin county, Nebraska, later moving with his parents to Culbertson, Nebraska, and then to Ritzville and resided on a homestead seven miles northwest of town. In 1890 he was united in marriage with Mary Koch. He left the farm in 1903 and moved to Ritzville, where he was employed at the Ritzville Trading company until March 1935. He has been ailing for eight years, undergoing an operation four years ago which allowed him to continue his work for two years. Since March of last year he has been unable to carry on with his work. Besides his widow, Mary, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Walter Schnubusch, Portland, Ore.; Mrs. O. C. Walser, Oroville, and Mrs. Elsie Buhler, San Francisco; four grandchildren, one brother and two sisters. Two sons preceded him in death. The funeral was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Philadelphia Congregational church here. John Snyder LIND - John N. Snyder, 69, passed away Wednesday evening at one of the Spokane hospitals. He was a native of Pennsylvania. He moved to this part of the country in 1901 where he homesteaded northwest of here. He farmed for a few years and then moved to town where he took up his time in the repair of machinery. For the past 10 years he has been a stockholder in the Lind Harvester company and was made manager. Mr. Snyder has never been married and it is not known of any relatives. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Methodist church with the Rev. S. E. Yaggy officiating. Interment was at the Lind cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, September 3, 1936, issue None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, September 10, 1936, issue Last Rites Held For Sam Kinch Funeral services for Samuel Kinch, 32, Benge farmer who died Saturday in Spokane following a major operation, were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the Methodist church here, with the Rev. R. D. Decker officiating. The body will be cremated. Mr. Kinch underwent an operation for cancer Monday, Aug. 31, at a Spokane hospital and was believed to have a fair chance for recovery when his death occurred. Samuel Kinch was born in Sprague, March 10, 1904, later moving to Benge, where he has lived nearly all his life. He married Miss Lucille Seasse at Nevada City, Calif., Sept. 21, 1927. He was a member of the Benge Grange and the I.O.O.F. Surviving him are his widow, a son, Roderick, and relatives in Oregon. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, September 17, 1936, issue None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, September 24, 1936, issue Mrs. A. R. Schaefer LIND - G. L. Weston, who has been visiting here from Eugene, Ore., the past two weeks, was called to Oakland, Calif., Sunday by the death of his only sister, Mrs. A. R. Shaefer, who lived in Oakland. Mrs. Schaefer had been visiting in Eugene and was called to Oakland to attend a funeral. She was returning to Eugene to spend a month when the stage, wrecked and Mrs. Schaefer was seriously injured. She was taken to the hospital at Red Bluff where it was necessary to ampuatate her left leg. She died soon after the operation. Services were held at Oakland Wednesday, and the body shipped to Michigan for burial. G. L. Weston left Monday for Oakland to attend the funeral.
