Funeral services were held Wednesday and burial was in Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Born in Kolb, Russia, in 1862, Henry Rosenoff came west in that now-famous party of Rosenoffs, Thiels and Kiehns who reached the Ritzville area from Walla Walla in 14 covered wagons. That was in 1878 when Henry was 16 years old. The pioneers filed their homestead claims at Colfax. The Rosenoffs settled on a place about four miles northwest of Ritzville. Interviewed by the Journal-Times ealier this year, Rosenoff recalled the gigantic harvests in this area when his family employed 50 horses and 26 men to bring the wheat in - and at that were lucky to finish before the early snows fell. Rosenoff's son-in-law, Henry Danekas, was kept busy with six more horses just hauling water for the sweating crews. Rosenoff was married to Ella Spanjer in 1888. Old-timers say it was the first wedding in the Rosenoff neighborhood. Mrs. Rosenoff died 10 years ago. For 28 years, Mr. Rosenoff was vice-president of the First National Bank here, located in the present quarters of the Ott and Cross law firm. He served on the city council for several terms and was a member of the Zion Congregational church at the time of his death. Funeral services were conducted in the Newman-Danekas Funeral home chapel with the Rev. P. Ruder officiating. Mrs. J. P. Danekas played and members of the Zion church choir sang. Pall bearers were David Hoefel, Mike Thiel, Con Pfenning, Elmer Schoesler, John Kisler and George Freese. Survivors include two sons, W. H. and Walter; two daughters, Mrs. H. J. Danekas and Mrs. Emil Wellsandt, all of this community; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Rites Held for Mrs. Williams Funeral services for Mrs. Cena F. Williams of Seattle were held at the Columbia Funeral home in Seattle Saturday evening. Graveside services were held at the Ritzville Memorial cemetery, Ritzville, Tuesday afternoon. Born in Whitman County, Ohio, Mrs. Williams came to Washington in 1906 and lived in Quincy and Ephrata before going to Seattle in 1926. She was the widow of George Williams, a farmer who died in 1920. Mrs. Williams died at her home July 2. Survivors are four sons, Clifford E. and Charles R. Williams, Seattle; Sylvester J. Williams, Ritzville, and George C. Williams, Odessa; four daughters, Mrs. Della C. Nickel, Guthrie Center, Iowa, Mrs. Bertha Mitchell, Winterset, Iowa, Mrs. Lela Nickel, Medical Lake, Wash., and Miss Lillie Williams, Seattle; one brother, John R. Fickel, Yakima; and one sister, Mrs. Rachael Moore, Wenatchee. There are also 27 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 15, 1948 Henry Schafer Rites Are Held Funeral services for Henry J. Schafer, who died Thursday at a Spokane hospital, were held in the Newman-Danekas funeral home parlors Monday afternoon at two o'clock with the Rev. Sherrard of Pomeroy officiating assisted by the Rev. A. K. Walborn of Washtucna. Burial was in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Mr. Schafer had been ill for some time. He was born at Bickleton, May 23, 1915, and was 33 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Anna Schafer of Washtucna, his wife, Betty, and two small children, George Henry and Ruthann, at the home, six brothers, Clarence, Ted of Seattle, Frank of Ralston, Leo of Dayton, Vernon of Washtucna and Bernard of Paha and two sisters, Mrs. Eddie Schaefer of Revere and Mrs. Mack McCune of California. Andrew Lunds To Attend Sons' Rites BENGE - Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Lund will attend funeral services Wednesday, July 21, at the Golden Gate National cemetery in San Bruno, Calif., for two sons who died in World War II. The boys were Otto, a marine gunner who died on Guadalcanal Jan. 15, 1943, and Victor, a staff sergeant in the infantry, who died on Luzon Jan. 16, 1945. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 22, 1948 Funeral Rites Are Conducted for Pessein OTHELLO - Funeral services were held Friday, July 16, for Perfect Innocent Pessein, old-time resident of Othello, from Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral in Spokane. Father John J. Coleman, JCD, officiated. Interment was in the Holy Cross cemetery. Mr. Pessein died in a Spokane hospital July 13. Survivors include his widow, Virginia; six daughters, Mrs. Ann Gochnauer of Coulee Dam, Wash.; Mrs. Grace Sheridan and Mrs. Helen Wilkerson, both of Wishram, Wash.; Mrs. Sara Suko, Beverley, Wash.; Mrs. Bessie Ferguson and Mrs. Cecelia Voit of Great Falls, Mont.; three sons, Sam Pessein of Othello; Julian of Great Falls, Mont.; and Caesar Pessein of Seattle. All were present at the funeral. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 29, 1948 Larrabee, Pioneer in Edwall, Is Dead EDWALL - Frank Larrabee, hardware operator here for 50 years and a widely-known pioneer in this area, died recently. Funeral services were held in Spokane. Larrabee was born in Wisconsin in 1874 and came to Lincoln county in 1888. After the disastrous fire of 1924, when the entire community of Edwall was destroyed, Larrabee was one of the leaders in a city-wide reconstruction program. It is believed his record of operating the same store 50 years in the same community is unprecedented in Lincoln county. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 5, 1948 Wreath Dropped To Honor Ensign Sammy Edwards United States naval aircraft droned over the Pacific ocean Monday and dropped a memorial wreath into the waters 30 miles off San Diego where Ensign Sammy Louis Edwards, 22, of Ritzville was killed last Wednesday afternoon. Memorial services were held at the San Diego naval station where Ensign Edwards' anti-submarine fighter squadron is based. Attending the services were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Edwards of Ritzville; his 17-year-old sister, Nancy; and his 12-year-old brother, Timothy. Reports from San Diego said the fatal accident occurred while the young Ritzville flier was piloting a Grumman Bearcat on a routine training mission. The pilot of a companion plane in the formation declared that the engine in Ensign Edwards' plane stalled suddenly, and the craft plunged from low altitude into the ocean. Ensign Edwards was born in Ritzville Sept. 17, 1925, and was graduated from high school here in 1943. He enrolled in the navy's wartime V-12 program then spending four semesters at Whitman college where he became a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He received pre-flight training at St. Mary's college in California and at Norman, Okla. He took his intermediate training at Corpus Christi, Texas, and advanced at Pensacola, Florida. After receiving his commission, Ensign Edwards was trained in fighter planes at Banana river, Fla., and then assigned to Fighter Squadron I-E at San Diego, attached to the U.S.S. Badoeng Strait. He flew Hellcats until last July 1 and then was assigned to a Bearcat. The Ritzville ensign would have been in the navy five years this October. He had only recently re-enlisted for another year. When that expired, according to friends, he planned to study aeronautical engineering at the University of Washington. Besides his family, immediate survivors include his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Nora Edwards of Ritzville and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lettie Tiller, also of Ritzville. Funeral Friday For Dr. Lemman Funeral services for Dr. G. H. Lemman, 74, of Ritzville, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Methodist church with the Rev. W. L. Goffar officiating. Arrangements are in charge of Duncan-Haight funeral home. Burial will be in Ritzville. Dr. Lemman, a well-known dentist in the Ritzville area, was born May 26, 1874, at Dryden, Mich. He came west with his parents and settled on Rattlesnake Flat, receiving most of his education in Walla Walla, 110 miles away. He was married to Miss Gertrude Butler in the fall of 1897. With the exception of four years spent in Idaho, Dr. Lemman had spent all of the past 62 years in Adams county. He began practicing dentistry in the Ott building in Ritzville in 1902. Dr. Lemman is survived by his wife, in Ritzville; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Kennedy of Wenatchee and Mrs. Charles Zemp of Caldwell, Ida.; one sisters, Mrs. Maud Lemman of Spokane; and one grandson, George Vehrs of Caldwell, Ida. Dr. Lemman took his own life in the basement of his home Tuesday. Funeral Is Held For William Rose WASHTUCNA - Funeral services for William Cemore rose, 79, long- time resident of Washtucna but late of Medical Lake, were held at two o'clock this afternoon in the Washtucna Community church with the Rev. A. K. Walborn officiating. Burial was in the Washtucna cemtery with the Duncan-Haight Funeral home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Rose was born in Oregon but had lived in the Washtucna community for 45 years. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Verda Bisson of Washtucna and Mrs. Ruth Bowen of Spokane; 12 grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Royse of Tacoma and Mrs. Mary Jane Hewitt of Salem, Ore. He was a member of the Christian church. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 12, 1948 Former Othello Teacher Dies OTHELLO - Word has been received here of the recent death of Mrs. Josephine Madison, a former school teacher here. Mrs. Madison taught here from 1927 to 1942. She also taught at Corfu. Mrs. Madison was a member of the Presbyterian Ladies Aid and playe for the church. She also had an orchestra and played for dances in Othello and vicinity. She is survived by her husband, Benjamin, a son, Boyd, her mother, three sisters and one brother. The funeral was held at Mt. Vernon Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Methodist church. Mrs. Madison had made her home at Suquamish since leaving here and taught school there. Bob Sheffels, Wilbur Farmer Is Dead At 48 WILBUR - One of the Big Bend's largest and most successful wheat growers, Robert C. Sheffels, 48, of Wilbur, died Monday night in a Spokane hospital after spending nearly a month thee with a heart ailment. Sheffels was stricken July 13 while driving a pickup in the fields west of Wilbur, near his home. He was rushed to Spokane by ambulance. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 19, 1948 Funeral Service For Mrs. Kuster Tentatively Set WASHTUCNA - Mrs. Irene Lily Kuster of Washtucna died Aug. 17 in a Spokane hospital following a cerebral hemorrhage with other complications. The funeral has been tentatively set for Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Washtucna Community church, pending word from California relatives. In addition to her widower, Daniel F. Kuster at the home in Washtucna, survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Bertha McCallam, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Mary Roesch, Oakland, Calif., and Mrs. Elsie Carter, Spangle, Wash. Five sons, Ivan, Martin, Ray and John, all of Washtucna, and Victor Kuster in the U.S. Army; five brothers, Ira, Chester, William, Nevins and Ray Welch, all of California; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Whiteside, Mrs. Iva Sutfin and Mrs. Gladys Butler, all of California; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Emerald Rebekah lodge. The Thornhill-Carey funeral home, Spokane, is in charge of arrangements. William Sellars' Body Is Brought Back To America Funeral services for William I. Sellars, former Ritzville resident who was killed in England in a wartime plane crash, will be held in California in the near future, it was learned this week. Sellars, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Franklin P. Sellars, was born and raised in Ritzville. An AAF instructor in England, his plane crashed when the weather closed in on a flight of 10 planes in August, 1944. One one managed to land safely. Sellars was buried near Graston, England. His body now has been brought to the United States and will be interred at San Bruno National cemetery in California. Funeral Friday For A. Schumaker Funeral services for August Schumaker, 56, who died at his Ritzville home Tuesday, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, in Zion Congregational church with the Rev. R. Kirschenmann officiating. Burial will be in Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Newman-Danekas funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Schumaker was born in Neu Elf in Russia and came to the United States 40 years ago. He farmed in this area for many years but was retired at the time of his death. Survivors include his wife, Adelina; five daughters, Mrs. Edna Hardy of Davenport, Doris Schumaker, Rosemary Schumaker and Geraldine Schumaker of Ritzville, and Mrs. Gordon Shuler of Spokane; two brothers, Simon of Olympia and Louis of Ritzville; and two sisters, Mrs. Katie Kison of Ritzville and Mrs. Rennata Roloff of Cheney. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 26, 1948 Funeral Is Held for Goodenough Funeral services for Oscar William Goodenough, 77, who died of a heart attack Saturday in the Adams county farm home he had lived in for 55 years, were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Grange hall at Connell. The Rev. Waldo Pierson officiated at the services with members of the F. and A. M. lodge also taking part. Burial was in the Michigan Prairie cemetery near Lind. Duncan-Haight Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Goodenough, who lived 16 miles south of Lind, was a member of the Christian church, Connell Grange No. 940, Lind IOOF lodge and Lind Masonic lodge. He is survived by his wife, Lillie A.; three brothers, Levi of Seattle, Jacob of Spokane and Thomas of Pullman; and a sister, Mrs. A. J. Railsback of Opportunity. Mrs. Baxter's Brother Dies In Auto Crash LIND - Mrs. Walter Baxter has received word that her brother, Walter E. Livermore, 38, of Pasco, was killed almost instantly at midnight Thursday when his car overturned on highway 730 near the McNary dam site. His brother, Laurence Livermore, 25, who was riding with him at the time of the accident, was taken to a Pendleton hospital with serious injuries. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Baxter and family drove to Pasco Tuesday where they attended the funeral at 2 p.m. Service Held for Lind Baby at Graveside LIND - Graveside funeral services for the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Stelzer of Lind were held at 2 p.m. today in Lind with the Rev. Edward Schmidt officiating. The baby was born Sunday and died two days later. He was named James Lyle. Survivors include the parents; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Weikum of Elgin, N. Dak.; and the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Stelzer of Ritzville. Duncan-Haight Funeral home was in charge of arrangments. Funeral Services for Mrs. Kuster Held Saturday WASHTUCNA - Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Kuster were held Saturday afternoon at the Washtucna Community church with the Rev. D. A. Russell of Spokane, former Washtucna pastor, in charge. Norma Hayden and Melvin Hess sang with Mrs. Frances Allert at the organ. Emerald Rebekah lodge of which she was a member, attended in a body and later took part in ritualistic rites at the gravesite. Burial was in the Washtucna cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, September 2, 1948 Nauditt Funeral Held Friday Funeral services for Henry Nauditt, 61, of Prosser, who died at a Prosser hospital Aug. 24 after a lingering illness, were held in the chapel of the Duncan-Haight Funeral home at two o'clock Friday afternoon with the Rev. Lathum of Prosser official. Burial was in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Miss Hazel Seela of Prosser, accompanied by Miss Jean Seela of the same city, furnished the music. Pall-bearers were Fred Luiten, Gene Arlt, Matt Kubik, Charles Schwerin, Joe Telecky and Henry Benzel. Mr. Nauditt was born in Minnesota in 1887 and came to Washington two years later, living here until 18 years ago when he moved to Prosser. In 1914 he was married to Emma Ondracek. He is survived by his widow; one son, Alvin, of Prosser; three daughters, Mrs. Harold Ericson and Miss Verna Nauditt both of Spokane, and Miss Darlene Nauditt of Prosser; one grandchild; six brothers, Fred, William, Robert and Walter all of Spokane, Louis of Metaline Falls, and Albert of Ritzville; four sisters, Mrs. Lily Day, Mrs. Martha Glomb and Mrs. Lena Lehman, all of Spokane, and Mrs. Bertha Carlson of Seattle. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, September 9, 1948 Brother of Ritzville Man Dies In Oregon Mrs. Robert Borsig attended the funeral of her cousin, Fred Schnurbusch at Portland, Ore., Tuesday. Fred Schnurbusch was born in Breuntrup Lippe-Dettmold, Germany, and died at the age of 81, at his home in Portland, where he has lived for the past 20 years. He is survived by his wife, three sons, Fred, Walter and George; two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Wilehart and Mrs. Erna Tracy, all of Portland; and a brother, William, of Ritzville. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, September 19, 1948 Ex-Lind Resident Dies At Kellogg LIND - Word has been received here of the death of Rudolph Carl Klobucher, formerly of Lind, at his home in Kellogg, Idaho, Sept. 4. Funeral services were held at Kellogg Wednesday, Sept. 8. Mr. Klobucher was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Elk lodge No. 249 of Moscow, Idaho. He is survived by his wife, Ethel, at the home; two daughters, Thelma and Melanie, both of Kellogg; two sons, Harold of Moscow and John of Kellogg; three sisters, Mary Klobucher and Mrs. H. C. Dockendorf, both of Opportunity, Wash., and Mrs. Emma Morgan of Loon Lake, Wash.; two brothers, Victor of Opportunity and Edward of Grand Coulee. Mr. and Mrs. Klobucher came to Lind in about 1929 and made their home here until 1938 when the moved to Moscow. Mr. Klobucher was employed by the Washington Water Power co. Wolsborn To be Buried Friday The body of William F. Wolsborn of Yakima who died there early Tuesday morning following a lingering illness, will be brought to Ritzville for interment in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery Friday afternoon. The service is scheduled for two o'clock. Mr. Wolsborn, 56, a bank teller, was born in Ritzville and went to Yakima 23 years ago. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Congregational church. He is survived by his wife, Emma, and a daughter, Mrs. Lois Every of Yakima, and a son, William Wolsborn, a student at the University of Washington. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, September 23, 1948 Funeral Held for David Sutton, Benge Funeral services for David Sutton, 95, who died in the Ritzville hospital Sunday, were held in the chapel of the Duncan-Haight at 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Clifford Knight officiating. Burial was in Lacrosse. Mr. Sutton was born in Des Moines, Ia., July 7, 1853, and lived in the Benge community for the past 20 years. He is retired laborer for the S.P. and S. railway. He is survived by his widow, Juliana, at the home; one son, R. W. of Spokane; and one daughter, Mrs. Lottie Berry of Seattle. Dr. Victor Services Held Wednesday WASHTUCNA - Funeral services for Dr. A. L. Victor, 79, Washtucna physician, will be held in Pendleton at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Salem, Ore. Dr. Victor died Saturday morning in a Pendleton hospital, following an illness of several weeks. Mrs. A. L. Crouse left Wednesday to be with her father. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, September 30, 1948 Dr. Victor Rites Held In Oregon WASHTUCNA - Funeral services for Dr. A. L. Victor, 79, Washtucna physician, were held Wednesday in Pendleton. Dr. Victor had practiced medicine for over 50 years in Washington and Oregon. The services were held in the Fulsom chapel at 2 p.m. Burial was in Belcrest Memorial cemetery in Salem Thursday. Dr. Victor had practiced in Woodburn, Yoncalla and Corvallis, Ore., before moving to Washtucna. He died Friday in a Pendleton hospital after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. He was a native of Iowa and came west after graduating from the Mary Ann Sims medical college. He is survived by seven children, a number of grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Henry Latham, With Road Service Since '20 Dies OTHELLO - Mr. Henry Latham died Monday evening at the Ellensburg general hospital of double pneumonia. He is survived by his wife, mother, sister and brother. His body was sent to Pueblo, Colo., where the funeral will be held. Mr. Latham started work as a machinist for the Milwaukee roundhouse on Feb. 20, 1920. He was 59 when he passed away.
