Her home was in Carthage, Mo., for many years. She visited here with a sister and brother in 1937. She was 98 years old in March of this year. Mr. Evan Booker has flown to Carthage to attend the funeral. Pastor's Funeral Is Held In Walla Walla Last Weekend HATTON - Mr. and Mrs. Kliphardt and sons Fredrick and Charles returned home Wednesday after spending the weekend at Walla Walla where they attended the funeral of Mrs. Kliphardt's father, the Rev. H. F. Lange. Mr. Lange was born near Hanover, Germany, 96 years ago. He came to this country as a youth of 16. He was an active minister of the Methodist church for 42 years. His first charge was in Owatonna, Minn. He then went to St. Paul, Minn., and then to Spokane for a pastorate of three years. He then went to Walla Wall for 11 years, then back to the Spokane church. Due to illness, the pastor and his family took up a homestead five miles west of Connell, where he regained his strength and returned to his ministerial work. Rev. Lange came to live with Mrs. Kliphardt April 4 and was taken to the Walla Walla general hospital June 11. Reverend Lange played an important part in the development of the Deaconess hospital in Spokane. He is survived by two sons, Dr. E.A. Lange of Walla Walla and Edward of Long Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Esther Kliphardt of Othello and Mrs. Lillian Colling of Craigmont, Ida.; 12 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 8, 1954 None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 15, 1954 Ex-School head, Mrs. Ripplinger, Dies In Kirkland HATTON - Word has been received here of the death June 26 of Mrs. Alice Ripplinger in Kirkland, with burial at Bellevue. She is survived by her husband, Frank, and a daughter, Frances, at the home and another daughter, Rosemary, living in Portland. Mrs. Ripplinger came to Adams county as a young teacher from Pennsylvania. She taught in the schools at Hatton and Cunningham and a lot of people around this district were her pupils. She was Adams County superintendent for a number of years. She visited old friends here last year, and was the overnight guest of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cottingham. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 22, 1954 None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 29, 1954 None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 5, 1954 Funeral Tuesday for Ocheltree, Hatton Pioneer HATTON - The town of Hatton and the entire community was saddened Saturday by the death of Henry Reid Ocheltree at his home in Hatton. Ocheltree was an inseparable part of Hatton from the time he came here in 1900. He helped to incorporate the town Aug. 12, 1907, and was one of the first councilmen. He served as mayor from 1920 to 1924, and has served in other capacities for the past 50 years. Funeral services were held in the Lind Methodist church Tuesday with the Rev. W. H. Ritchey officiating. Burial was made in the Lind cemetery with members of the Lind Masonic lodge in charge. Reid Ocheltree was born in Ashley, Mo., Feb. 22, 1869, and came west as a young man. Along with Ward Algoe and Elbert Robberson, he started Hatton's first department store. Later the store became known as Ocheltree & Ocheltree after Robberson sold his stock to Tom Ocheltree. Ocheltree has made his home with his sister-in-law, Mrs. Minnie C. Ocheltree, and her son, Clifford, and daughter, Ruth, since the death of his brother. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Sadie Zummalt of Yuba City, Cal., his sister-in-law Mrs. Minnie Ocheltree and Ruth and Clifford. He was a member of the Lind Masonic lodge and had been a member of the lodge in Connell prior to its consolidation with Lind. He also was the first worthy patron of Margaret Wadsworth Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star when it was organized in Connell in 1928. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 12, 1954 None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 19, 1954 None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 26, 1954 None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, September 2, 1954 Funeral Held For Bassett; Washtucna Man Early Pioneer WASHTUCNA - Funeral services were held Tuesday morning for Linn Lancaster Bassett, 79, Adams county pioneer and one of Washtucna's most beloved citizens. Bassett died Saturday morning at the Adams County Memorial hospital following a long illness. Bassett's father, George W. Bassett, was the first white man to settle on the present site of Washtucna. His son, Linn, was three years old when the family, attracted by the region's mild climate and three springs of soft water, moved there in 1878. The Rev. Russell Booher officiated over the services for the early-day resident whose childhood home had served as an informal way station for travelers on the old Mullan military road. Burial was Tuesday afternoon in the Mountain View cemeter in Walla Walla. Born July 14, 1875, at Walla Walla, Bassett grew up on his father's place at Washtucna where he ranched for many years and later established the Washtucna Hardware company. He serviced as Washtucna's mayor in the early 1900s and was a member of the Modern Woodman and Rimrock grange. Bassett was married to Mary Clemantine Haile on July 17, 1902, at Cunningham. His wife preceded him in death in 1931. Bassett also was a charter member of the Washtucna Community church, serving as a church officer ever since he joined in 1901. He was an elder of the church at the time of his death. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Bury of Pullman, Mrs. Bert Burkland of Kelso and Miss Esther Bassett of Washtucna; one son, Lt. Robert A. Bassett with the air force at Sacramento; a brother, C. S. Bassett of Pullman; a sister, Alice G. Bassett of Ritzville and two grandchildren.
