Alfred Carter officiating. Burial was in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Pinnow died Saturday at his home. Born in Germany, he had come to this area 48 years ago. He was survived by his widow, Katherine, at the home. Pallbearers included three nephews, Ernest Albershardt, Herman Zeitk and Ernest Zeitk, and three grandnephews, Ernest Geschke, William Geschke and Jerry Geschke. Breitkreutz Rites Are Held Saturday Funeral services for Charles Floyd Breitkreutz, who died Thursday at Lakeland Village, were conducted Saturday at the Danekas and Duncan funeralhome chapel with the Rev. Alfred Carter officiaitng. Burial was in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Breitkreutz, 29, was survived by his father, Charles W. Breitkreutz of Ritzville; two aunts, Mrs. Laura Steinke and Mrs. Esther Jaehn, both of Spokane; and an auncle, Erwin Breitkreutz of Ritzville. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, October 14, 1954 Rosary Is Friday for Mrs. Casper Rosary for Mrs. Steve Casper, 60, who died at her home in Enumclaw Wednesday, will be spoken at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Danekas and Duncan funeral home chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Agnes Catholic church. Mrs. Casper was a longtime resident of the Benge area. Her survivors include her husband, Steve, sr.; a daughter, Ann Lucas of Ritzvile, and a son, Steve, jr., of Enumclaw. Funeral Is Set for Ex-Resident Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday for Cecilia Roberta (Little) Arellano, 17-year-old former Ritzville resident who was killed in an automobile accident last Saturday at San Diego, Calif. The Rev. R. W. Rieger will officiate with burial in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Survivors include the husband, Fred Arellano of Chula Vista, Calif.; Mrs. Arellano's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Miller; three sisters, Rhea, Loave and Letha, all of Ritzville; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Glenn of Ritzville; five uncles and one aunt. Mrs. Arellano had been born and raised in Ritzville. No details of the accident were reported other than the car in which Mrs. Arellano was riding apparently was sideswiped by another vehicle. Funeral Is Held for Mrs. Ensz Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Ensz, 83, of Valleyford were conducted last Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the Menno Mennonite church between Ritzville and Lind with the Rev. Willard Wiebe officiating. Mrs. Ensz, who had been a member of the Menno church since 1929, died the previous Saturday. She had come to Washington in 1901 and with her husband, I. Ensz, homesteaded near Weber. Later they moved to Lind where her husband died in 1935. Mrs. Ensz moved then to Valleyford where she resided until her death. Survivors were a daughter, Mrs. Eva Eden, and a son, Isaac, of Valleyford; a twin sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Ensz of Lind; three grandsons and one great-grandson. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, October 21, 1954 Funeral Is Held Here Thursday for Mrs. Seidl Funeral services for Mrs. Rose B. Seidl, 85, who came to Adams county as a young bride 66 years ago, were scheduled for this Thursday in St. Agnes Catholic church with Fr. C. M. Depiere officiating. Mrs. Seidl, the mother of Mrs. B. E. Sielaff of Ritzville, died Monday night. The longtime Adams county resident was born May 31, 1869, at Bloomer, Wis. She was married to George Seidl on June 10, 1888, and the young couple came to Adams county to homestead land which is now part of the Joel German farm. Mrs. Seidl's husband died in 1905 but she continued to operate their farm until 1911, when the family moved to Ritzville. Mrs. Seidl lived here until 1950. She moved to Spokane for two years, then returned to Ritzville to live with Mr. and Mrs. Sielaff. Four other children survive Mrs. Seidl - Mrs. R. C. Gillis of Washtucna, Mrs. W. H. Schoo of Washtucna, Mrs. B. E. Cooper of Portland, Ore., Mrs. W. H. Schoonover of Odessa, and Edward Seidl of Ayer, Mass. Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Frank Swartz and Mrs. T. M. Tighe, both of Seattle, Mrs. Carrie Weiner of Columbus, Wis., and Mrs. John Radke of Rice Lake, Wis. She was also survived by 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, October 28, 1954 None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, November 4, 1954 Martin Kiehn Funeral Held HAVRE, Mont. - Funeral services were held here Oct. 21 for Martin Kiehn, a longtime employee for the Great Northern railway who had been born in Ritzville, Wash., on April 9, 1879. Survivors include two residents of Ritzville - his mother, Mrs. Catherine Kiehn, and a sister, Mrs. David Kramer. The Martin Kiehn family was frequent visitors in Ritzville. Kiehn, 55, came to Havre in 1921 from Spokane. He built up a record of 34 years of continous employment by the Great Northern after going to work as a machinist in October of 1920. He was past master of Enterprise lodge 134, AF & AM and belong to Algeria temple of Helena, the North Central Montana Shrine club, Scottish Rite Masonry, Great Falls Consistory, and Havre Lodge 1201, BPO Elks. He was also a member of the International Association of Machinists. Other survivors are the widow, Nellie; a daughter, Mrs. James Elmslie, jr., of Havre; three other sisters, Mrs. F. E. Yarmo of Seattle, Mrs. R. K. Bethel of Sacramento, Calif., and Mrs. L. M. Warwick of Chico, Calif.; and three brothers, Leroy, Alvin, both of Spokane, and Edward of Seattle. Funeral Is Held for Mrs. Casper at Local Church Funeral services were held Oct. 16 at St. Agnes Catholic church for Mrs. Steve Casper, sr., of Enumclaw, a resident of Benge from 1916 to 1948. Burial was at Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Anna Johanna Beckx was born April 12, 1894, in Askeaton, Wis. She was married to Steve Casper of Sherwood, Wis., on Nov. 17, 1915, and after living at Benge, moved in 1948 to Enumclaw. Survivors were the husband, Steve Casper, sr., of Enumclaw; a son, Steve Casper, jr., and his wife, Eva, of Enumclaw; a daughter, Anna Marie Lucas of Ritzville; two grandchildren, Marcia Casper and Steve Casper, both of Enumclaw. Also surviving were three sisters, Mrs. Gertie De Grott of Kaukauna, Wis., and Mrs. Elizabeth Tiesling and Mrs. Nellie Appleman, both of De Pere, Wis., and William Beckx and Peter Beckx, both of Green Bay, Wis. Funeral Is Held for Goodenough, Former Resident of Hatton Area. HATTON - Funeral services where held in Spokane Saturday for Thomas Goodenough. He was a former resident of the Hatton area, having lived for many years on Michigan prairie and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Goodenough and the brother of John, Oscar, Levi Goodenough and Mrs. Margaret Railsback. All of these had preceded him in death except Jacob and Maude Railsback, who live close to Spokane. His wife, Myra, passed away only a short time ago, but their only daughter, Dorothy, died several years ago. At one time Mr. Goodenough owned the place now occupied by Gustav Strohmaier. He and his family lived in Pullman a long time. Mr. Goodenough had been in a Spokane hospital for more than a month. Burial was at Pullman beside his wife and daughter. Funeral Is Held for Jacob Thaut Funeral services for Jacob Thaut, 73, who died Oct. 25 at his home, were conducted last Thursday with the Rev. R. Kirschenmann officiating. Burial was in Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Thaut, a carpenter, was born in Russia and came to the United States 41 years ago. He had lived in the Ritzville area for the past 40 years, and was a member of the Philadelphia Congregational church. Surviving were the widow, Anna, at the home; two sons, Jacob, jr., of Ritzville and Daniel of Spokane; six step-sons, George Borgens of Walla Walla, Arthur Borgens of Yakima, Orville Borgens of Wapato, Delmer Borgens of Washington, D.C., John Borgens in the navy and Clarence Borgens in the army. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, November 11, 1954 Funeral Conducted for Juliana Sutton Funeral services for Juliana Sutton, 89, who died Sunday at the local hospital, were conducted Tuesday at the Danekas and Duncan funeral home chapel with Archdeacon Rowland Hills officiating. Burial was at the Lacrosse cemetery. A resident of Benge, she was survived by two nieces, Mrs. Nessie Colwer of Kentucky and Mrs. Sebina, also of Kentucky; and three nephews, Mark Cann and C. B. Cann, both of Kentucky, and Ralph Cann of Dearborn, Mich. She was a member of the Episcopal church. Funeral Is Held for Mrs. Johnson Funeral services for Elzora (Reed) Johnson were scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at the Danekas and Duncan funeral home chapel with the Rev. Alfred Carter officiating and burial at Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Mrs. Johnson, who had lived in the Ritzville area until 1921, died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cleora Beattie of Garrison, N. Dak. Other survivors were her husband, William Johnson of Gardner, Mont.; two sons, Reed (Pete) Johnson of Los Angeles and Veryl Johnson of Spokane; and a sister, Mrs. Rad Angel of North Richland. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, November 18, 1954 Final Rites Held for Mrs. Tax OTHELLO - Funeral services for Katherine Mary Tax, 54, of Othello were conducted Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic church in Othello with Fr. C. M. Depiere officiating. Rosary was spoken Thursday evening at the Sacred Heart church. Burial was at the new Othello cemetery. Mrs. Tax, who died Nov. 10 at her home in Othello, was born Dec. 10, 1909, in Iowa. She had lived in Othello for the past eight years. She was survived by her husband, Fritz, at the home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Reiff of Othello; four sisters, Isabelle Reiff of Othello, Mrs. Howard Smith of Cornell, Wis., Mrs. Gertrude Hinen of Winlock, and Mrs. Rose Cole of Longview; and a brother, William P. Reiff of Othello. Danekas and Duncan funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Johnson Rites Held Wednesday Funeral services for Elzora Johnson, 67, of Garrison, N. Dak., were conducted last Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the Danekas and Duncan funeral home chapel with the Rev. Alfred Carter officiating. Burial was in Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Mrs. Johnson was a former resident of this area. Survivors were her husband, William, of Gardner, Mont.; a daughter, Mrs. Elrora Beattie of Garrison; two sons, Reed Johnson of Los Angeles and Veryle Johnson of Spokane; a sister, Mrs. Rad Angel of North Richland and five grandchildren. Newspaperman Dies at Lodi Recently LODI, Calif.- Funeral services were conducted here recently for Joseph R. Thompson, 71, a veteran newspaperman who started his career in journalism at Ritzville, Wash. Thompson was born in Garfield county in Washington in 1883 and began working for the Ritzville newspaper in 1898. Later he worked on the editorial side of newspapers in Washington, British Columbia and California. He retired in 1951 because of ill health from the staff of the Stockton, California Record. Grieb Funeral Conducted Here Funeral services for one of Ritzville's oldest residents, 90-year-old Jacob Karl Grieb, were conducted Tuesday in the Danekas and Duncan funeral home chapel with the Rev. John Finkbeiner of Kennewick officiating. Burial was at Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Greib died Saturday about one week after he had entered the Adams County Memorial hospital. Born in Germany, April 25, 1864, he came to the United States 71 years ago and had lived in the Ritzville area the past 48 years - nearly half-a- century. He was a retired farmer. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jacob Schaefer of Ritzville; three sons, William C. Grieb of Headquarters, Idaho; Charles W. Grieb of Ritzville and Bert W. Grieb of Hatton; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Paul Booker, Irrigation Leader, Dies At Home; Funeral Conducted OTHELLO - Funeral services for Paul E. Booker, 54-year-old Othello rancher and irrigation leader, were conducted Saturday at the Christian church in Othello with the Rev. Robert L. Kendall officiating. Burial was in the Lind cemetery. Booker, one of Adams county's most prominent residents, operated a wheat ranch southeast of Othello and had been a leading figure in working for irrigation development for many years. With his family Booker had attended a homecoming celebration at the University of Washington the previous weekend where Mrs. Booker's class was celebrating the 25th anniversary of its graduation. Booker went on to Portland to attend a 3-day meeting of the National Reclamation association the first part of last week. He died Thursday morning at home. Born in Carthage, Mo., Booker attended grade school near the family ranch in the Lind area and went on to high school in Ritzville where he was graduated in 1919. He received a master's degree in education at the University of Washington where he was a member of the Tillicum club. Following graduation he taught in schools at Bremerton and Portland and was a faculty member at the Albion, Idaho, normal school for three years. Booker retired from teaching in 1932 to return to the home ranch his father, the late Thomas R. Booker, had homesteaded. He was married June 4, 1939, to the former Loraine Stevens of Wenatchee, who had been teaching in the Warden school. A resident of Adams county since 1901, Booker served as director of the East Columbia Basin Irrigation district and was a past president of the State Association of Irrigation Districts. Last year he was president of the Pacific Water Council. Booker also was an elder and trustee of the Christian church and for seven years was chairman of the church board. He helped finance construction of the Othello church two years ago. Survivors include the widow, Loraine, at the home; a daughter, Paula Gay, 13, and a son, Mark Edward, 8; his mother, Mrs. Mollie Booker of Seattle; three sisters, Mrs. R. E. Morris of Monse, Mrs. Thomas Caka of Seattle and Mrs. Arthur Jerbert of New London, Conn.; and two brothers, Thomas Booker, jr., and W. E. Booker, both of Othello. Mrs. Paul Booker is the Journal-Times correspondent for Cunningham and parts of the Hatton area. Danekas and Duncan funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Benge Resident Funeral Is Set Funeral services for Juliana Sutton, 89, were conducted Nov. 9 at the Danekas and Duncan funeral home chapel with Archdeacon Rowland Hills officiating. Burial was at Lacrosse. Mrs. Sutton, who died Nov. 7 at the Adams County Memorial hospital, was born March 5, 1865, in Illinois and had lived in the Benge community for 40 years. She was a member of the Episcopal church and the Eastern Star. Survivors include two nieces, Mrs. Nessie Coliver of Kentucky, and Mrs. M. Sebina of Kentucky; and three nephews, Mark Cann and C. B. Cann, both of Kentucky, and Ralph Cann of Dearborn, Mich. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, November 25, 1954 None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, December 2, 1954 Mrs. Heimbigner Dies At Hospital Mrs. Henry Heimbigner died Wednesday night at the Adams County Memorial hospital. Her children living in this area include Mrs. Lawrence Thiel, Mrs. Gene Simpson and Mrs. Lottie Heimbigner. Funeral arrangments have not been disclosed. Mrs. Oestreich Funeral Held Here Thursday Final rites for Mrs. Dena Oestreich who had lived in the City of Ritzville from the age of nine until her death Monday at 58 were scheduled for this Thursday afternoon at the Philadelphia Congregational church with the Rev. R. Kirschenmann officiating. Burial will be at Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Mrs. Oestreich was the wife of William M. Oestreich, manager of the Ritzville Trading company light hardware department and a member of the store's board of directors. Mrs. Oestreich was born on Nov. 27, 1896, as Dena Thiel on a farm six miles west of Ritzville which her parents, Henry and Alice Thiel, had occupied after they came from Russia. Her father died in 1928 and her mother in 1941. Mrs. Oestreich attended school here and was married on Aug. 6, 1919, at the home of her parents - a home now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Meyer. The Oestreich's daugghter, now Mrs. Marjorie Lefevre, was born in the Ritzville resident of Dr. Fales. Mrs. Oestreich died early Monday afternoon at the Adams County Memorial hospital. She had been a member of the Philadelphia Congregational church, the Philadelphia Junior Aid, and C. J. Newland American Legion post auxiliary. Survivors were her husband and daughter, a brother, Solly Thiel of Ritzville; and a grandson, Andrew Martin Lefevre. Danekas and Duncan funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, December 9, 1954 Funeral Conducted for Mrs. Koch Here Funeral services for Katharina Elizabeth Koch, 81, who died Saturday in Seattle, were held Tuesday at Emanuel Lutheran church with the Rev. F. J. Ahrendt officiating. Burial was in the Lutheran church. Mrs. Koch had lived in Seattle for the past nine years but formerly lived in Ritzville for many years. She was born in Russia on Feb. 16, 1873, and had come to the United States 60 years ago. She was survived by a daughter, Mrs. Marie Taini of California, and four sons, William of Portland, Ore., Rudolph of Seattle, Clarence of Spokane, and August of Auburn. Former Resident Dies In Yakima YAKIMA - Mrs. Wilhelmina Bertsch, 77, former Ritzville resident, died here Saturday. Born in Russia, Mrs. Bertsch lived in Ritzville 30 years prior to moving to Yakima in 1942. During her residency in Ritzville her name was Wilhelmina Kleinknecht. She and her husband lived in the house now occupied by Alex Floether. Her son, Otto Schlaugh, who survives her, served as manager of the Ritzville Trading company shoe department. Schlaugh now lives in Yakima. Mrs. Bertsch also was survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. Aurelia Oglesbee of Spokane, and three step-sons, John Bertsch of Lodi, Calif.; Ted Bertsch of Oakland, and Emil Bertsch of Olympia. Ruth Dettman Funeral Is Held Funeral services for Ruth Arlene Dettman, 16-year-old Ritzville high school junior who died suddenly at her home Monday evening, were scheduled for Thursday afternoon at Emanuel Lutheran church with the Rev. F. J. Ahrendt officiating. Burial was to be in the Lutheran cemetery. Miss Dettman was a member of the Future Homemakers of America, the high school band, 4-H, the Lutheran league and the Lutheran church. She was survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Dettman, and a brother, George Frederick. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, December 15, 1954 Mrs. Borgens' Funeral Held Funeral services for Mary Dorothy Borgens, 85, who died last Thursday at her home, were conducted Monday at the Danekas and Duncan funeral home chapel with the Rev. D. K. Schmidt of Walla Walla and the Rev. Raymond Griffith of Cheney officiating. Burial was in Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Mrs. Borgens, nee Lesser, was born Oct. 5, 1869, in Frank Russia. She was married to Henry Borgens, sr., in 1890, and in 1899 the family came to the United States, settling at Lincoln, Neb. They moved to Adams county in 1900, homesteading near Ritzville. There they lived until 1928 when they moved to town. Survivors include her husband, Henry; two daughters, Miss Amelia Borgens and Miss Rachel Borgens, both of Ritzville; and three sons, George, Henry and Jonathan, all of Ritzville. Also surviving were a brother, Henry Lesser of Loveland, Colo.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Heimbigner Funeral Is Held on Dec. 4 Funeral services for Anna Marie Heimbigner, 78, who died Dec. 1, were conducted Dec. 4 at the Philadelphia Congregational church with the Rev. R. Kirschenmann officiating. Burial was in Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Mrs. Heimbigner had been born April 18, 1876, in Frank, Russia, and came to the United States 63 years ago. She had lived in the Ritzville area 34 years and was a member of the Philadelphia church. Mrs. Heimbigner was survived by her husband, Henry, and by nine daughters - Mrs. John Schorzman of Seattle, Mrs. Ed Schempp of Quincy, Mrs. Chris Handel of California, Mrs. Mike Keller of Dryden, Mrs. Joe Sherrer of Woodland, and Mrs. Herman Heimbigner, Mrs. Gottlieb Kiesz, Mrs. Gene Simpson and Mrs. Lawrence Thiel, all of Ritzville. Also surviving were four step-sons, Herman and Frank Heimbigner of Ritzville, Chris of Seattle and Andrew of Ellensburg; and five step-daughters, Miss Nellie Heimbigner, Mrs. Fred Rehn, Mrs. Mike Prihar and Mrs. Art O'Donnel, all of Spokane, and Mrs. Harvey Weber of Stockton, Calif. There were 44 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren also surviving as well as a brother, George F. Wagner of Walla Walla. Danekas and Duncan funeral home were in charge of arrangements. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, December 23, 1954 Washtucna Man Dies Tuesday Morning WASHTUCNA - Milton Harley Myers, 48, died shortly before noon Tuesday at his home. He was survived by his widow, Maysel; a daughter, Mrs. Delores Daugherty of Washtucna; two sons, Milton (Pat) of Kenai, Alaska, and Duane of Washtucna; a sister, Mrs. Kenneth Darve of Kahlotus; four brothers, Roley of Burbank, Walter of Eugene, Ore., Elmer of Coeur d'Alene and Cecil of Pasco; and three grandchildren. Danekas and Duncan funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Washtucna Community church with burial at Ritzville. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, December 30, 1954 Myers Funeral Held at Tucna WASHTUCNA - Milton Harley Myers died at his home Tuesday, Dec. 21, from a heart attack. "Bill" as he was always called, was born Nov. 14, 1906, at Milton, Ore. With his family he moved to Burbank and later to Benge where he met and married Maysel Parrish at Moscow, Idaho, May 13, 1926. In 1942, he and Mrs. Myers moved to Washtucna and have resided here since. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Maysel Myers; one daughter, Mrs. Delores Daugherty; two sons, Pat of Kenai, Alaska, and Duane, a senior in the local school; one sister, Mrs. Kenneth Darve of Kahlotus; four brothers, Walter of Eugene, Ore., Cecil of Pasco, Roby of Burbank and Elmer of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday in the Washtucna Community church with the Rev. Russell Booher officating. Burial was in Ritzville Memorial cemetery.
