He was the son of the late Anna and Peter Gering. While a young boy he moved with his family to Eugene, Ore. In 1900 the Gering family came to Menno where he later took up a homestead near Schrag. He was married to Katherine Schrag, Feb. 22, 1906, at Menno by the Rev. J. R. Schrag. In 1942 they left their farm and moved to Spokane where he lived until his death. Funeral services will be held from the Menno Mennonite church at 2 p.m. Friday, July 12, with the Rev. Lester Janzen and Rev. Neil Dierks officiating. Burial will be in the Mennonite cemetery. Surviving were one daughter, Mrs. Anna Aeschliman and one grandchild, Susan Aeschliman, both of Spokane; two sisters, Fannie Schrag of Ritzville, Ella Graber of Freeman, S. Dak.; four brothers, Frank of Colfax, Clarence of Rapid City, N. Dak., Walter and Leon of Ritzville. Danekas and Duncan funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Kisler Funeral Held Saturday Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for John Kisler, 80, who died at the Adams County Memorial hospital July 3. Mr. Kisler came to Adams county at the age of 21 from his birthplace of Frank, Russia. He retired from ranching in 1953. Surviving were his wife, Mary, at he home; two sons, Harold of Cortesville, Pa., John of Ritzville; one daughter, Mrs. Doris Evans of Leavenworth; one nephew, John Kisler of Odessa; and eight grandchildren. Services were held from Zion Congregational church with the Rev. R. W. Rieger officiating. Burial was in Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Danekas and Duncan funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Anderson Rites Held In Spokane SPOKANE - Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for Edward George Anderson, who died at his home Sunday. Surviving were his widow, Effie, at the home; three sons, Wayne and Clifford of Ritzville; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Evans of Ralston and Mrs. Glenys Burquist of Spokane; two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Sherwin of Millwood and Mrs. Helen Evans of Spokane Valley; one brother, Carmichel Anderson of Spokane; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The Rev. Olaf Stoeve officiated at the services. Burial was in the Pines cemetery at Opportunity. Services Conducted for Hilzer Infant Graveside services were held Monday at the Lutheran cemetery for the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Hilzer. He was born July 8 at the Adams County Memorial hospital and died July 9. Survivors other than his parents were the grandmother, Mrs. Henry Hilzer. The Rev. F. J. Ahrendt officiated at the services. Danekas and Duncan funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 18, 1957 German Rites Held Monday Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Arthur C. German, 80, who died Friday at the Adams County Memorial hospital. He had been a resident of Adams county for 61 years, coming here from Michigan and taking up a homestead. He is survived by four sons, Gilbert of Quincy, Robert of Seattle, Harold of Bremerton and Joel of Ritzville; one sister, Mrs. Nellie Weich of Wayland, Mich., 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The Rev. H. Haemmelmann officiated at the services. Burial was in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Danekas and Duncan funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Kagele Rites Held July 18 at Ritzville. Funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon for George Kagele at Zion Congregational church with the Rev. R. W. Rieger officiating. He was born Dec. 19, 1914, in Ritzville and attended Ritzville schools. Surviving are his wife, Doris; one daughter, Karyl Jean; two sons, George, jr., and Billy, at the home; four brothers, Jake Kagele, jr., and Fred Kagele of Ritzville, William Kagele of Cheney and John Kagele of Odessa, and one sister, Mrs. Katherine Marisch of Spokane. Mr. Kagele was a veteran of World War II, a member of the C. J. Newland American Legion Post No. 51, 40 et8, a state director of the TB association and a member of Zion Congregational church. Six nephews served as pallbearers. They were Lewis Kagele, James Kagele, Norman Kagele, Dick Kagele, Melvin Kagele and Gene Kagele. Graveside services were conducted by American Legion post of Spokane. Burial was made in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Kagele's body was found on a road about 7 miles outside of Ritzville by Mr. and Mrs. William Stockman. County coroner E. R. Whitmore, jr., said death apparently was caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Danekas and Duncan funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Lee Carver Funeral Conducted at Tekoa Funeral services for Lee Carver, 7, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Carver, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Methodist church at Tekoa. Burial was in the Rosalia cemetery. The younger Carver was the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Art Browicik, formerly of Ritzville and now of Spokane. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 25, 1957 Thiel Funeral Held July 25 Funeral services for Katherine Elizabeth Thiel, 84, of Ritzville, who died in Portland, Ore., Tuesday, July 23, were held this afternoon (Thursday) at Emanuel Lutheran church. The Rev. F. J. Ahrendt officiated. Interment was in Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Danekas and Duncan funeral home was in charge of arrangements. She is survived by her husband, Peter Thiel of Ritzville, four daughters, Mrs. Jake (Leah) Klaus of Portland, Mrs. Elmer (Bertha) Schoesler, Mrs. Harold (Ruby) Schoesler and Mrs. Art (Laura) Heinemann, all of Ritzville; two sons, Arthur and Aaron of Ritzville, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran church. Mrs. Thiel had been a resident of Ritzville for 58 years. She was born Jan. 14, 1873, in Kolb, Russia, and had come to Ritzville directly from Russia. Ex-Ritzville Visitor Dies MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Funeral services for Mrs. Hannah C. Leegard, who died here July 19, were held last Friday. A resident of the city for more than 50 years, Mrs. Leegard was 77. For several years she had been an annual spring visitor to Ritzville, Wash., staying with her great-grandchildren and their parents, the Bruce Wilson family. While with the Wilsons in Omak this spring she became ill and never completely recovered. "Mama" also was survived by two daughters, a son and five more grandchildren and five more great-grandchildren. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 1, 1957 Colleen Ann Thompson Dies In California Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Powers received word Wednesday afternoon of the death of their granddaughter, Colleen Ann Thompson. She was born Sunday, July 28, 1957, to Mr. and Mrs. Philip J. Thompson (Colleen Powers) of Salinas, Calif. Clyde Foster Dies In East WASHTUCNA - Word was received this week by Mrs. Mike Austin of the death of Clyde Foster, 71, who passed away at a nursing home in Barry, Ill., July 21. Funeral services and burial were held July 29. Mr. Foster was a blacksmith for McGregor's in Hooper for many years and had been a resident of Washtucna all his life until he went back east two or three years ago. When he was in poor health his brother came here and took him back east where they could care for him. Surviving are two brothers, George Foster of Barry, Ill., and John Foster of Lamar, Ark. Danekas Rites Will Be Held on Saturday Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 3, in the Zion Congregational church at 2 p.m. for Henry J. Danekas, 68, who passed away at the Adams County Memorial hospital Wednesday. The Rev. R. W. Rieger will officiate. Danekas was born Oct. 1, 1888, in Minionk, Ill., and came to Ritzville when he was six months old. He is survived by his widow, Anna; two sons, Robert and Ralph, and one daughter, Mrs. Ray (Lucille) Telecky, all of Ritzville. Also surviving are two brothers, J. P. Dankeas and W. G. Danekas, and one sister, Mrs. Tina Sielaff, and five grandchildren, all of Ritzville. At the time of his death Danekas was county commissioner from District 1. He is past president of the Big Bend Baseball league and a past master of Marcellus Grange. He was a member of the Elks lodge No. 228 of Spokane and of the Zion Congregational church. Interment will be made in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Danekas and Duncan funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Salo Funeral Held Monday ODESSA - Funeral services were held here Monday afternoon at the United Congregational church for Emanuel Salo who died at his home here. The Rev. E. G. Klein officiated and interment was in the local cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Bertha Marshall of Ritzville, a stepdaughter, Mrs. Hannah Heimbigner of Ritzville, two sons, three other stepdaughters, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Hilzer Funeral Held Monday Funeral services for Katherine Marie Hilzer, 75, of Ritzville, were held Monday, July 29, at Emanuel Lutheran church. The Rev. F. J. Ahrendt officated. Interment was in the Lutheran cemetery, Danekas and Duncan funeral home was in charge of arrangements. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Emma Kosek of Tacoma, Mrs. Florence Johnson of Ritzville, six sons, Jake of Milwaukie, Ore., George, Victor, Lawrence, Theodore and Benjamin, all of Ritzville and nine grandchildren. She was born Feb. 17, 1882, in Worko, Russia, and came to the United States in March of 1914. She was a member of the Lutheran Ladies Aid and the Emanuel Lutheran church. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 8, 1957 L. W. Richter Dies, Portland PORTLAND - Funeral services for L. W. Richter, former resident of Ritzville, Wash., were held Monday. He died in Portland last Friday, the day before his 81st birthday. Mr. Richter lived in Ritzville for about 12 years before moving to Portland about 1918. He was head miller for the Ritzville Flouring mills from 1910 to 1918. Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Mrs. LeLand Stane of Portland, and a son, Edwin Richter, of Hunters, Wash. The elder Mr. Richter visited in Ritzville about three years ago when he was there to receive a Masonic pin. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 15, 1957 Leoda Stoops Dies In Seattle SEATTLE - Mrs. Leoda Stoops, 64, died at a local hospital Tuesday, Aug. 13. Surviving were her son, Haven Stoops, and granddaughter, Patricia; three brothers, Charles Cox and Harry Cox of Seattle and Ercell Cox of Tacoma. Graveside services will be held in the Ritzville cemetery at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, under the arrangement of Danekas and Duncan funeral home. Mrs. Stoops formerly lived in Ritzville with her family. Her late husband, John Stoops, was a barber there for many years. Former 'Tucna Resident Dies SPOKANE - Mrs. Bernice Betty Whiteman, 25, died Aug. 4 at a local hospital. She was born May 15, 1932, in Washtucna where she spent her childhood. She attended the Washtucna schools and John Rogers high school here. She is survived by her husband, Donald Whiteman, at the home, her mother, Mrs. Verda Bisson of Washtucna, her father, Martin Bisson of Spokane, two sisters, Mazie Havens of Massachusetts, Phillis Bisson of Spokane, five brothers, Pete and Jack Bisson of Reardan, Donald Bisson of Kalama, Mike Bisson of Camp Pendleton, Calif., Max Bisson of Santa Ana, Calif., and two older half sisters, Mrs. Mable Fritz of Venice, Calif., and Margie Ruth of St. Paul. Services were held Aug. 9 with burial in the Greenwood cemetery. The Rev. James A. Moore officiated at the rites. Bernice was married to Donald Whiteman June 1, 1952, and they made their home in Spokane. Snyder of 'Tucna Dies WASHTUCNA - Cleta Marie Snyder, 1-1/2 year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph William Snyder of the Hilltop ranch near here, was drowned Wednesday afternoon in a pond near the house. Artificial respiration was used as soon as the body was discovered but to no avail. Mrs. Snyder found her about 15 minutes after the child had gone out. The body is at the Danekas and Duncan funeral home in Ritzville. Funeral services were to be announced. Lincoln R. burns Final Rites Held Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Lincoln R. Burns, 79, retired tailor who had been a resident of Ritzville for 48 years. Mr. Burns died Friday at a hospital. Services were held at the Seventh-Day Adventist church with Elders C. L. Vories and Melvin Oss officiating. Surviving is his wife, Anna W. Burns, at the home. Burial was in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Danekas and Duncan funeral homes was in charge of arrangements. Harry Kehn Dies at Clarkston, Wash. HATTON - Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ashcraft went to Clarkston Tuesday afternoon to attend the funeral of their son-in-law, Harry Kehn. Surviving were his widow, Walleen, and son, Alex, at the home, his father, Paul Kehn of Clarkston and his mother, Mrs. Carl Saunders of Spokane. He had been a resident of Ritzville for 65 years and was a retired real estate and insurance broker. He was born Oct. 22, 1864, in Missouri. Surviving were two daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Schell of Ritzville and Mrs. Helen Setters of Endicott. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, from the Danekas and Duncan funeral home chapel with the Rev. Alfred Carter and the Rev. D. A. Russell of Priest Rapids officiating. Burial will be in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Mrs. Weaver of Lind Dies LIND - Funeral services were held at the Lind Methodist church for Mrs. Gertrude Lee Weaver, 71, who died Sunday at the Adams County Memorial hospital at Ritzville. Mrs. Weaver had been a resident in Adams County for 52 years, coming here from Nebraska. She was born on June 10, 1886. She is survived by her husband, Clarence, at the home, one step-son, Jack Weaver, of Portland, three step-daughters, Mrs. Lois Mowett, Mrs. Laura Walters and Mrs. Mary Wellsandt, all of Spokane, five sisters, Mrs. H.E.E. Kalkwarf of Ritzville, Miss Mirian Baumgart of Port Angeles, Miss Elsa Baumgart of San Francisco and Mrs Minnie Myeroff of Okanogan, two brothers, Carl Baumgart of Lind and Henry Baumgart of Spokane. She was a member of the Adams County Historical Society and Rebekah lodge. The Rev. Edward Schmidt officiated at the services. Burial was in the Lind cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, September 25, 1957 Funeral Rites Slated Friday Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at Emanuel Lutheran church for Mrs. Agnes Gerhardina Sandbrink, 76, who died at her home Monday. The Rev. F. J. Ahrendt will officiate. Mrs. Sandbrink was born April 18, 1881, at Glencoe, Minn., and moved to Adams county when she was six years old. She has been a resident here the past 70 years. She was married to Fred C. Sandbrink April 3, 1904. He died in 1920. Surviving are five daughters, Miss Alia Sandbrink and Mrs. T. R. Brandon of Alamedo, Calif., Mrs. Peter Mack of Wallace, Ida., and Mrs. E. Hille and Mrs. Paul Meyer, both of Ritzville. Also surviving are four brothers, John Luiten of Spokane, Jake Luiten of Davenport, Gerhard Luiten of Spangle and Fred Luiten of Ritzville and seven grandchildren. Five brothers preceded her in death. Interment will be in the Lutheran cemetery. Danekas and Duncan funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Ruth H. Lewis Dies In The East Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Miss Ruth Helen Lewis at the Trinity Methodist church with the Rev. Alfred Carter officiating. She died at her home in New York City Sept. 20. She was survived by two sisters, Miss Alice Lewis of New York and Mrs. L. D. Emerson of Ritzville. Burial was in Ritzville Memorial cemetery.
