Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, February 20, 1958 Mrs. J. D. (Maude) Sellars Dies; Is buried At Brownwood, Texas Mrs. J. David (Maude) Sellars will write for the Journal-Times no more. Readers of this newspaper long had been familiar with the travel articles furnished us whenever Mrs. Sellars would make one of her numerous trips about the country. She preferred to travel by bus, stopping wherever scenic interests prompted her. Her interesting articles concerning the people she met and the scenery viewed, would follow. Mrs. Sellars reported social items for the Journal-Times for many years following a long career of school teaching. But the familiar lady with pencil and pad inquiring about the day-to-day activities of the community has been laid to rest. Maude Grace Johnson, daughter of David B. and Eura J. Johnson, was born at Crozier Springs, Pike county, Ill., April 26, 1880. After finishing school she taught for a few years before moving to Ritzville in 1902. The next year she was married to J. David Sellars. No children were born to them. She continued to teach for a number of years and was a postmaster for a while at Denton, Mont. She joined the Methodist church at the age of 13 and continued her membership throughout life. She died Feb. 6, 1958, at the home of her brother, Arthur Johnson, the only other surviving member of the family, at Brownwood, Texas. Funeral services were held in that city Feb. 8 and burial was made there. A letter from Mrs. Johnson of Brownwood indicated that Mrs. Sellars had decided not to be shipped back to Ritzville for burial beside the late husband here. Mrs. Sellars had taken ill in Illinois where she had been visiting earlier this year. Her brother joined her there for the return trip to Brownwood. She lived in her own apartment up to a few weeks prior to her death when she was moved first to a hospital and later to a rest home. She then was returned to the home of her brother where she passed away. The Journal-Times long will have a tender memory of Mrs. Sellars. While active on the staff, her favorite names for members of the force were unique. Only on rare occasions would she be addressed by his given name. Favorite nicknames instead were used. These ranged from "Laddy," through "Mister" and "Sonny," and the like. Her unusual knowledge of the names and relationships of the community were a real usable asset to the present publisher when he joined a new community to learn new names and connect them to new people. She indeed was a part of the Journal-Times and one of the community of Ritzville. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, February 27, 1958 Harry Henrichs Funeral Is Held Funeral services for Harry J.
