Mrs. Bauer, 32, passed away March 28 at her home here. She is the former Dolores June Chagnon, daughter of Milliam Chagnon and Vera Spencer. She was born Sept. 22, 1925, in Vancouver, Wash. She married Harold Bauer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lavine Bauer, of Ritzville, Wash., Sept. 30, 1942. She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Alice and Elizabeth Ann, all at the home; her parents, two brothers and a sister, all of Vancouver, Wash. Kin of Local Lady Dies; Funeral Sunday KELLOGG, Ida. - Jack Coast, 35, a brother of Mrs. Dorothie Granburg of Ritzville, Wash., died last week at a Spokane hospital. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the American Lutheran church in Kellogg with burial in Greenwood cemetery. Luther Betts Funeral Held In Washtucna WASHTUCNA - Funeral services were held Saturday at the Community church for Luther Betts, who died March 25 in a Spokane rest home. Masonic rites were conducted. He was born Sept. 5, 1863, in New Hartford, Ill., and came to Washington in 1900. He homesteaded on a ranch near Washtucna and lived in the community all his life with the exception of eight years which he spent in California. He entered a rest home in Spokane in 1954. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Beulah Sitton of Thornton, Mrs. Bertha Rucker of El Cerrito, Calif., and Mrs. May Dyer of Washtucna; 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Betts was a charter member of Central lodge number 202 F & AM. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, April 10, 1958 Walter G. Myer Dies At Home In Oregon EUGENE, Ore. - Walter G. Myer passed away March 27 at the age of 45. He was a graduate of the Benge high school and lived in the Washtucna area for several years. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Kenneth Dawes of Kahlotus, and three brothers, Elmer of Coeur d'Alene, Ida.; Roy of Burbank and Cecil of Yakima. St. John Man Dies; Was Wed In Ritzville ST. JOHN - Frank C. Fredericks, 80, a retired well driller, who died here recently, was a widower. He and his wife, the late Adelaide Cora Fredericks, were married in Ritzville July 5, 1929. He is survived by four brothers, Harley, Worley and Roy, all of St. John, and Archie of Bonners Ferry, Ida., and one son, Robert Ashby in Hawaii. Final Services Held Saturday for Ripplinger HATTON - Requiem mass for Frank X. Ripplinger, were held Saturday, at the Sacred Heart church at Bellevue. Burial was in Sunset Hills Memorial park. The Rev. Dermott Fayle officiated. Mr. Ripplinger died Thursday at his home at Dunrovin. He was born Oct. 3, 1882, in Chippewa Falls, Wisc., and was a blacksmith by trade. He owned the General Mercantile store, which also contained the post office, blacksmith shop and feed rolling mill, in Cunningham from 1912-1916 and later farmed at Ritzville. In 1930 Mr. Ripplinger moved his famiy to Kirkland where he worked for the East Side Fuel company. When he retired he was a purser on a Lake Washington ferry. As a young man he served in the cavalry in the Philippines. During World War I, he served in the tank corps. He was a member of the Warren O. Grimm post of the American Legion at Kirkland. His wife, Mary Alice, died in 1954. She is well remembered here, as she taught school at Hatton, Corfu, Smyrna and Ritzville. She also had been county school superintendent. Mr. Ripplinger is survived by two daughters, Frances Ripplinger and Rose Mary Wilson of Bellevue; a brother, Leo J., of White Hall, Mont.; and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Tolford of Thorp, Wisc.; Mrs. Theresa Broedlow of Chippewa Falls, Wisc., and Mrs. Bertha Yeager of Antigo, Wisc. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, April 17, 1958 Blankenship Dies At Oregon City Graveside burial rites were held Monday, April 14, for O. P. Blankenship, at the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. He passed away April 10 at Salem, Ore. Mr. Blankenship was born Feb. 18, 1874, near Milltown, Ky. His wife, Jennie, preceded him in death in 1953. He is survived by two sons, Joel of Ritzville and Gilbert of Salem, Ore., and four daughters, Mrs. C. R. Womack of Ritzville, Mrs. Frances Beebe of Edgerton, Wyo., Mrs. Lila Peterson of Seattle and Mrs. Helen Burnete of Anchorage, Alaska. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Damewood Rites Held On Monday Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Ritzville Memorial cemetery for Ralph M. Damewood of Spokane. He passed away April 10. Funeral rites were held from the chapel of Hazen and Jaeger funeral home in Spokane. Mr. Damewood formerly lived in the Lind and Crab creek areas. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nell Damewood of Spokane, a daughter, Mrs. Robert Sigler, of Everett, and three grandchildren. His son, Lloyd Damewood, preceded him in death in 1956. After the services a large group of friends and relatives visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Webb. Mr. Webb was a brother-in-law of Mr. Damewood. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, April 24, 1958 Mrs. Goodenough Dies In Seattle HATTON - Mrs. Levi (Maude) Goodenough, 76, formerly of Hatton, passed away suddenly with a heart attack last Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Carl Martin at Seattle. Mr. Goodenough preceded his wife in death a few years ago. Mrs. Goodenough is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Martin and Mrs. Juanita Trinkhaus, a son, William Goodenough, all of Seattle; one granddaughter, one grandson and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the West Home chapel, with interment at Forest Lawn Mausoleum at Seattle. Mr. and Mrs. Goodenough and family lived in the place now occupied by the Walter Koch family. They moved away from this area about 30 years ago. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, May 1, 1958 Fred W. Meise Funeral Held Father Joseph Pash officiated at a requiem mass for Fred William Meise last Friday morning. Rosary was said Thursday, April 24. Interment was in Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Danekas and Duncan funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Meise passed away at his home near Benge on April 23. He is survived by his wife, Alvina; three daughters, Mrs. Russel Johnson of Pasco, Mrs. Alvera Baker of Benge, and Mrs. Bernie Sullivan of Washtucna; four sons, Harold Meise of Benge, Earl Meise of Odessa, Fred Meise, jr., of Ritzville, and Tom Meise of Pasco; one sister, Mrs. Joe Pickard of Quincy, Ill.; one brother, Paul Meise of Chicago, and 17 grandchildren. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic church. Ex-Minister Dies In Pasco PASCO - Funeral services for the Rev. Peter Ruder, 78, of Pasco, a former pastor of Zion Congregational church at Ritzville, were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the First Congregational church in Pasco. Rev. Ruder died at his home in Pasco Monday morning. He was a native of Germany and came to America in his youth. After graduation from Chicago Theological seminary in 1917, he was ordained into the ministry. The former Adams county pastor since had served German Congregational churches in the midwest and west coast areas for more than 44 years. From 1941 to 1951 he was pastor of the Ritzville church. He retired in 1951 from the active ministry and had made his home in Pasco since then. Surviving are his wife, Emma Dora; three daughters, Mrs. Willard Meininzer of Sacramento, Calif.; Mrs. George Gackle of Minneapolis, Minn.; and Mrs. Margaret Lorain of Pasco; eight grandchildren and a brother, Joe Ruder of Minneapolis. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, May 8, 1958 J. E. L. Olson Death Recalls Early Harvests J. E. L. Olson, who continued to drive a combine in the wheat fields of Adams county when he was 70 years old, died April 24 in Spokane. As of mid-August in 1952, Olson had worked to consecutive harvests without missing a one. He was born July 25, 1886, and continued to work through the 1956 harvest. Olson was married to Joicey Ammons Nov. 20, 1912. They had two children, Mrs. A. L. Florence of Bellingham and J. Roger Olson of Ritzville. There also are seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held April 29 in Spokane and burial was in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. He was a member of the Lidgerwood Presbyterian church in Spokane, a charter member of Marcellus Grange and later joined the Opportunity Grange. He farmed in the Ritzville area all his life until 1951 when he moved to Spokane. Olson was a member of the first graduating class of Ritzville high school in 1905. He was widely-known among old-timers for having one of the first ground-power combines, later one of the first wheat trucks, then one of the first tractors and finally one of the first propelled combines in Adams county. While at RHS Olson played on the school's first basketball team which, it was said, once had a tie game called because of darkness. A basketball fame between RHS and the state normal school at Cheney was called off on account of darkness because there were no lights in the grain warehouse here where the game was played. He worked his first harvest as a high school youth in 1903 when he drove a header box. A crew spent 28 days harvesting about 600 acres of Turkey Red, Olson once said. This yielded about 20 bushels to the acre. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, May 15, 1958 Former Resident Dies In Toppenish TOPPENISH - Konrad Meyer, sr., 85, a former resident of Ritzville, passed away in Toppenish recently following a long illness. He is survived by two sons, Konrad Meyer, jr., and Victor A. Meyer, both of Toppenish; three daughters, Mrs. Ray Morton of San Francisco, Mrs. Fred Kautz of Olympia and Mrs. Emanuel Selcho of Ritzville; two nieces, Mrs. Larry Maher and Mrs. Harry Schwisow, both of Ritzville; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. His funeral was held last Thursday in Toppenish followed by burial in Tahoma cemetery, Yakima. Ex-Resident Dies Word was received recently that Arthur Bryan Funk, 80, who once lived in the Keystone vicinity, had died at Colville. He farmed in the area of Keystone for a number of years. Area Pioneer Dies On Friday Funeral services for Reinhardt Meyer, an Adams county pioneer, were conducted Monday morning in Spokane and graveside services were held that afternoon at the Ritzville cemetery. Dr. Richard Decker and the Rev. Clyde Beecher conducted services in Spokane. Graveside services were conducted by the Rev. Alfred Carter of Trinity Methodist church. Mr. Meyer, who died last Friday at his home in Spokane, farmed a homestead of his parents about nine miles southeast of Ritzville for many years. He was born March 13, 1878, in Unterellen, Germany, a son of Christina and Martin Meyer. They came to the United States in 1886 and settled in Illinois where they resided for several years before coming to Ritzville. Meyer was married to Gretchen Vehrs in 1902. Surviving are three sons, Walter O., Martin M., and Max O., all of Ritzville; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Gaiser of Spokane; three grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, May 22, 1958 None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, May 29, 1958 Charles Henry Dies In Pasco At Age of 92 HATTON - Funeral services for Charles H. Henry, 92, of Lind and Kahlotus, were held Saturday at the Lee Funeral Home at Pasco with the Rev. Lovel Phillips, pastor of the Kahlotus church, officiating. Burial was in Riverside Park cemetery at Spokane Saturday afternoon. Mr. Henry died last Thursday at the Colonial Manor nursing home in Pasco. He was born March 22, 1866, at Fayetteville, Ark. He came to Washington territory in 1887 and had a farm near Dayton until 1909 when he retired and moved to Spokane. While there he worked for the City of Spokane. He lived in Spokane until 1953 when he came to make his home with his daughters, Mrs. W. G. Curry of Lind and Mrs. Oren Herron at Kahlotus. Mr. Henry liked to work in the garden and grow beautiful flowers, which he did until he fell at the home of Mrs. Curry during a power outage April 25 of this year. He broke his hip, necessitating an operation to place a pin in his hip. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. W. G. (Nellie) Curry of Lind, Mrs. Oren (Catherine) Herron of Kahlotus, Mrs. Frank (Mary) Henager of Yakima; two sons, Charles Ernest Henry, Helena, Mont.; and Clarence Patrick Henry, Rochester, New York. Twelve grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren also survive. He was a member of the Christian church. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, June 5, 1958 Lambirth Rites Conducted Here Funeral services for Charles Leroy Lambirth were conducted last week Thursday at the Danekas and Duncan funeral home with the Rev. Alfred Carter officiating. Interment was at the Edwall cemetery. Mr. Lambirth had lived at Edwall for more than 60 years. He had moved to Ritzville about 1-1/2 years ago to make his home. He died at his home here on May 26. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Irene Deking of Ritzville, Mrs. Verna Hutton of Spokane and Mrs. Beatrice Klein of Oakesdale; a son, Donald Lambirth of Seattle; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. J. A. Adams Dies At Clarkston; Former Resident Funeral services were held for J. A. Adams, 78, Clarkston, at the Merchants chapel in Clarkston Monday of this week. Adams, a former resident of Ritzville, was a retired builder. He is survived by his wife at the home; one daughter, Mrs. Martin Meyer of Ritzville, one grandson, Virgil Meyer, Ritzville, and two great-grandchildren. Adams was a member of the Christian Alliance church at Lewiston and the Odd Fellows lodge. The Rev. Dwight Hall of Clarkston officiated and was assisted at the graveside by the Odd Fellows. Burial was at Normal Hill cemetery, Clarkston. Joshua Emmert Funeral Is Held ODESSA - Funeral services for Joshua Walter Emmert, 90, were held from the Wilson Creek Presbyterian church last Thursday morning with the Rev. C. H. Hart officiating. Burial was in the Odessa cemetery. Mr. Emmert was a former resident of Paha and Ritzville as well as Odessa, Everett, Spokane and Wilson Creek. He had survived all members of his family except one nephew, John R. Emmert, of Renton. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, June 12, 1958 Kembel Rites To Be June 12 Funeral services for Marie E. Kembel will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 12, from the Philadelphia Congregational church. The Rev. H. Haemmelmann will officiate. Interment will be in Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Danekas and Duncan funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Kembel passed away June 9 at her home. She is survived by three sons, Daniel Kembel and Elmer Kembel, both of Ritzville, Walter Kembel of Ellensburg; one sister in Russia; one brother, Alex Rehn of Spokane; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was a member of the Philadelphia Congregational church and the Senior Ladies Aid of that church. Miller Rites Set Saturday Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Walters Miller will be held from Trinity Methodist church at 1 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Alfred Carter, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Miller, the widow of W. O. Miller, who died in 1946, died in a Spokane hospital Tuesday night. They were married Sept. 19, 1905, and came from Indiana to Ritzville four years later. She had lived here ever since. Mrs. Miller was a member of Trinity Methodist church, Rebekah lodge, Women's Relief Corps, American Legion Auxiliary, Past Noble Grand Club of the Rebekahs and the Woman's Society of Christian service. Survivors are a son, W. Walters of Ritzville; a daughter, Mrs. Sam (Myra) Walter of Wenatchee and five grandchildren. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, June 19, 1958 None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, June 26, 1958 Paul Gering Final Rites Held Monday SPOKANE - Funeral services for Paul Gering, son of Joseph and Frances Gering, were held in Spokane Monday at the First Assembly of God church. He died June 19 at his home in Spokane. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. at the Menno Mennonite cemetery near Ritzville. Mr. Gering was born in 1881 at Freeman, S. Dak. In 1890 the family moved to the Willamette valley in Oregon and in 1901 went by covered wagon to Adams county, Washington. Four years later he was united in marriage to Matilda Steffen, who preceded him in death in 1947. To this union were born seven children. They were: Mrs. Alberta Nickel of Everett, Adam Gering of Spokane, John Gering of Moscow, Ida., Mrs. Laurence King of Sandpoint, Ida., Mrs. Lillian Kison of Ritzville, Aaron Gering of Post Falls, Ida., and Mrs. LaVinna Potts of Spokane. There also are seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Later Mr. Gering married Mrs. Selma Wendlandt, who survives him at the home. Also surviving are two stepsons, Clarence and Clifford Wendlandt of Spokane. Mr. Gering also is survived by his mother, Mrs. Frances Gering of Odessa; four sisters, Mrs. Lena Schrag of Odessa, Mrs. Anna Nafziger of Colfax, Mrs. Martha Moyer of Sutherlin, Ore., and Mrs. Nellie Hardt of Bremerton, and three brothers, Martin Gering of Monroe, Henry Gering of Odessa and Joe Gering of Odessa. He spent most of his life farming west of Ritzville. About 11 years ago he retired and moved to Spokane where he made his home. He also spent many years working with the ministry.
