Fruehling. She died Jan. 6 at Portland, Ore. Funeral services were held at the Jacobson Family Funeral Home at Portland Jan. 10. The body was brought to Ritzville for burial. Present in Ritzville for the graveside interment were Mrs. Genevieve M. Tuck, a granddaughter of Portland; and Calvin Dugger, a nephew of Yakima, a former Ritzville resident. Mrs. Fruehling was born July 19, 1891. She grew up on the Dugger ranch north of Ritzville. Danekas Funeral Homes had charge of arrangements here. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, January 24, 1963 None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, January 31, 1963 Harry Schuler Funeral Held Saturday Funeral services for Harry Schuler were conducted by the Rev. Albert Wagner at the Danekas Funeral Home last Saturday afternoon. Mr. Schuler had entered Adams County Memorial hospital Monday of last week. He died Thursday morning there of a heart attack. Pallbearers were Steve Sielaff, Kenny Ahern, Kenneth Schafer, Vince Evans, Wendell Zier and Glenn Johnson. Burial was in the Ritzville cemetery. Harry Schuler was born Sept. 14, 1884, at Harmony, Pa., one of five sons of Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Schuler. The family was one of the early Adams county pioneer families, moving here in 1886. He was married April 28, 1907, to Ida Heavner. He lived around Ritzville, Sprague and Paha all his life. Surviving are his wife, Ida Schuler, and his children: Mrs. Larean Zier of Spokane; Mrs. Joe (Verna) Burgess, Moses Lake; Clifford of Ritzville; Mrs. Lester (June) Sielaff, Ritzville; and Mrs. Ernest (Lois) Ahern, Spokane. One daughter, Sara Mann, died. There are 14 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren. The Schuler family, father and five sons, constructed many buildings in this area. In Ritzville they built the Hotel Davis, the Ritzville Flour Mill and the Lincoln school. Harry Schuler, as an individual, also built, in the early 20s, most of the concrete bridges in the county. He and helpers constructed several county roads, numerous wheat elevators, and in later years buildings such as the Bestway Building Center, the former S&K Motors and numerous new homes. He was a member of the Christian church. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, February 7, 1963 Mrs. Peter Ruder Funeral Held Saturday Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Congregational church at Pasco for Mrs. Emma Dorthea Ruder. Mrs. Ruder lived in Ritzville for 10 years while her husband, the Rev. Peter Ruder, was pastor of the Zion Congregational church here. The Rev. Mr. Ruder retired from the ministry in 1951 because of his health. The family then moved to Pasco. Mrs. Ruder was taken to a Pasco hospital at 3 o'clock the morning of Jan. 30 and died at 10 o'clock that morning. The Rev. Olaf A. Stoeve conducted the services, assisted by the Rev. Alex Rehn of Zion Congregational church. She was born Feb. 26, 1884. She is survived by three daughters, Florence Gackle of Minneapolis, Minn.; Theresa Mieniger of Sacramento, Calif., and Margaret Loraine of Pasco with whom she made her home. Also surviving are three sisters and nine grandchildren. Those attending the funeral from Ritzville were the Rev. Mr. Rehn, Mr. and Mrs. Orvil Luiten, Mrs. Hubert Maas and Ralph Kissler. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, February 14, 1963 Mrs. V. Williams Funeral Service Held at Tacoma Funeral services for Mrs. Vestle Williams where held Feb. 4 at the Mountain View Funeral Home at South Tacoma. She died at a Tacoma hospital Jan. 31. Moline Miller was born in Tacoma and had lived in the Ritzville area for many years. Later she and her husband moved to the Puyallup and Tacoma area where their home is 12707 Andrain road. She is survived by her husband, Vestle Williams; a daughter, Noreen Williams and three grandchildren, Walley, Wendy and Robert; by a brother, Fred Miller of Davenport; and two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie (Fred) Reiber, Davenport; and Hannah Becker, Wilbur. Also surviving are a half sister, Mrs. Lydia (Roy) KOch of Ritzville; and two step-sisters, Mrs. Mary Schutz of Ritzville and Mrs. Mollie Miller of Dryden. Mrs. Williams was 56 years of age. Mrs. Sackmann Funeral Held at Lind Wednesday Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Lind high school auditorium for Mrs. Lydia Birkholz Sackmann. She was 84 years of age and had lived in this county since 1901. The Rev. R. Kirschenmann of Lind conducted the services. Pallbearers were Richard Sackmann, Clarence Fode, Raymond Fode, Walter Heider, Harry Krug and Jerry Biggar. Burial was at the Lind cemetery. Mrs. Sackmann had died Sunday at the Adams County Memorial hospital. Lydia Birkholz was born Dec. 9, 1878, in Mannsburg, South Russia, the daughter of Fredericka Miller and William Birkholz. She was married to Gottlieb Sackmann in Russia on Nov. 26, 1898. They came to America from the place of her birth and lived on the family farm three and a half miles northwest of Lind. In October of 1943 they moved to Lind. Mrs. Sackmann was the mother of 18 children, 17 of whom survive her. There are seven sons, William, Martin, Albert, Reinhold and Emil of Lind; Alfred of Ruff and Godfrey of Washtucna. The 10 surviving daughters are Mrs. Ted (Lydia) Fode, Mrs. Ernest (Emma) Heider, Mrs. Theo (Bertha) Borth and Mrs. Edwin (Margaret) Jeske of Lind; Mrs. Jacob (Mary) Wilhelm of Ritzville; Mrs. Otto (Rebecca) Krug of Connell; Mrs. Walter (Ella) Biggar of Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Alfred (Elsie) Overvold of Yakima; Mrs. Otto (Martha) Wahl of Vancouver, and Mrs. Raymond (Hilda) Ruff of Moses Lake. There also are 41 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren surviving. Mrs. Sackmann was a member of the Lind Zion Congregational church and a charter member of the Women's Fellowship there. Menehan, brother of Ritzville's Jim Menehan, died Sunday in Sacred Heart hospital in Spokane. The funeral mass was said at St. Aloysius Catholic church in Spokane Wednesday. Michael Menehan was born June 6, 1891, at Livingston, Mont. He farmed in the Wilbur area since 1940. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church at Wilbur, of the American Legion and the Wilbur Grange. He is survived by his wife, three sisters, Mrs. Rose Hogan, Spokane; Mrs. Ann McMahon, Edwall and Mrs. Margaret Black, Atherton, Calif.; and by two brothers, James of Ritzville and Joseph of San Francisco. Jacob Oster Funeral Rites Will Be Today Funeral services for Jacob Oster will be held today (Thursday) at 10 o'clock at the Danekas Funeral Home. Mr. Oster died Monday at the Adams County Memorial hospital after a 10-day illness. He was 82. Jacob Oster was born in Odessa, Russia, on Aug. 19, 1880. He emigrated from Russia in 1901, coming to South Dakota. The following year he came to Washington and homesteaded near Ruff. He continued to farm there until 1943 when he retired and moved to Ritzville. He was married Jan. 19, 1908, to Magdalena Nitschke at Ruff. Four children were born to them, two sons and two daughters. A son, John Albert, died in 1944. Mr. Oster is survived by his wife, Ritzvile; and two daughters, Mrs. Louise Zundel of Harrington and Mrs. Lydia Schell of Ruff. There also are nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren surviving. He was a member of the Evangelical church at Ruff. The Rev. R. Russel Eyelander of the Assembly of God church will conduct the funeral service. Pallbearers will be Russell Zundel, Claire Lofgren, jr., Robert McDougall, Ernest Oster, Kenneth Schauerman and Gene Schell, all grandsons. Burial will be in the Odessa cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, March 14, 1963 Henry Allert Dies Monday at Home Here Henry Peter Allert died during his sleep at his home here early Monday morning, apparently the victim of a heart attack. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Danekas Funeral Home. Allert had been a resident of Adams county the past 20 years. From 1954 to 1958 he operated the Ritzville Golf and Country club. Prior to that he had farmed at Reardan. Earlier he had been employed 22 years by the General Petroleum Co., in Everett. He retired from farming in 1954 because of a heart attack. He was born July 29, 1894, at Beatrice, Neb., and was 69 years of age at the time of his death. He was married on April 30, 1943, to Neota O. Fisk. Surviving are his wife and two children, Chester Allert of Everett and Lucinda Marshall of Seattle. There are two grandchildren, Gregory and Keece Marshall of Seattle. Also surviving are a sister, Gertrude Coleman of Ritzville; and five brothers, Cornelius, Walter and John of Ritzville, Frederick of Rosalia and William of Benge. Allert was a life member of the Elks Lodge No. 479 in Everett, and a member of the Benge Grange No. 944. He was a member of the Mennonite church. The Rev. Alfred J. Waln conducted the funeral. Pallbearers were Ralph Allert, Delbert Allert, Louis Allert, Maurice Allert and Roderick Kinch, all of them nephews. Burial was in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Beverly Burkhart Funeral is Held Funeral services for Beverly Ann Burkhart, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Robert J. Burkhart, were conducted at the Danekas Funeral Home Tuesday morning. The year-and-a-half-old child died early Monday morning at the Adams County Memorial hospital following a sudden severe illness which lasted only a week. She was born June 19, 1961. Surviving are her parents, a sister, Marcia, and a brother, Paul, all of Ritzville; her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Hankins, Emmett, Ida.; her paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Burkhart of Walla Walla; and her two great-grandmothers, Mrs. Sylvia Morehouse, Star, Ida., and Mrs. Ethel Hankins, Emmett, Ida. The Rev. Paul Kidwell of the Church of the Nazarene in Ritzville and the Rev. Raymond Kratzer, Nampa, Ida., conducted the funeral. Burial was in Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, March 21, 1963 E. M. Steffen Funeral Held Here Saturday Edward Martin Steffen, former long-time farmer in the Ritzville area, died Thursday of last week at Pasco at the age of 76. Funeral services were conducted at the Danekas Funeral Home here Saturday afternoon. Mr. Steffen died from complications following a stroke. He had been ill only a week. Edward Martin Steffen was born June 21, 1886, in Russia, the son of Edward M. and Fredricka Steffen. He was married here to Amelia Graber. Four sons and four daughters survive Mr. Steffen. They are Albert of Pasco, Harvey of Prosser, Otto of Benton City and Harold of Yakima; Mrs. Esther Schrag of Pasco, Mrs. Gertrude Stumpf of Ritzville, Mrs. Dorothy Schuler of Ritzville and Mrs. Ruby Deranleau of Kennewick. Mr. Steffen's wife preceded him in death in January of 1945. He had farmed in the Ritzville area from 1900 until 1939. Since then he lived in the Pasco, Richland and Prosser area. He was a member of the Lutheran church. The Rev. Harold Hauge, pastor of the Pasco Lutheran church conducted the service here. Pallbearers were Glen Steffen, Dennis Schuler, Dewayne Schrag, Kenneth Schafer, Jerry Mantle and David Steffen. Burial was in the Mennonite cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, March 28, 1963 Funeral Services for George Meyer Held Here Monday Funeral services for George Meyer of Ysrido, Calif., were held Monday at the Danekas chapel here. Mr. Meyer died Thursday of last week at San Ysrido following a short illness and the effects to a heart attack. He was born in Kolb, Russia, on June 16, 1886, and was 76 years of age when he died. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyer, long-time residents of the Ritzville community. Mr Meyer's father died in 1947 and his mother, Marie, died in 1950. George Meyer lived a good portion of his life in Adams county. He engaged in construction work. He was a member of the Congregational church. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Larry (Kate) Maher and Mrs. Carl Hoefel, both of Ritzville; and a brother, Ben Meyer, of San Ysirdo. There are also two nephews and a niece surviving. The Rev. H. Haemmelmann of Philadelphia Congregational church conducted the service Monday. Burial was in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Pallbearers were Ted Klemmer, Ralph Streeter, Bill Werttemberger, Pete Miller, William Thiel and William Rosenoff.
