The Rev. Alex Rehn will officiate. Mr. Wagner took his life Tuesday afternoon at the Gemberling Grain Co., here, according to Dr. J. Colin Lindsay, Adams County health officer who investigated. The son of Mr. and Mrs. George Wagner, Emil was born Jan. 24, 1914, at Ritzville. He attended Ritzville schools and graduated from Ritzville high school in 1932. He was married to Mabel Cree at Walla Walla in 1938. For the past 20 years he had been manager of the Gemberling Grain Co., elevator here. He was a member of Zion Congregational church, the Elks lodge at Moses Lake, the Ritzville Lions club, the Ritzville gun club and an associate member of C. J. Newland post of the American Legion. Surviving are his wife and son, Byron, at the home in Ritzville; his daughter, Mrs. Marvin Iltz, Ritzville; four sisters, Mrs. Lydia Sweeney of Walla Walla, Mrs. Hilda Deck of Seattle, Mrs. Mary Swesey of Puyallup, and Mrs. Esther Brown of Portland; and two brothers, George Wagner of Ritzville and Solomon Wagner of Mead. There are two grandchildren. Burial will be at the Ritzville cemeter. Pallbearers will be Robert Stanfield, Reuben Rehn, Fred Kupers, William Strohmaier, Merle Johnston and Richard Gemberling. Fay Dempsey Funeral Held Funeral services were held at the Washtucna Community church last Friday afternoon for Fay Dempsey. He was 53 years of age, and had died at the Adams County Memorial hospital on April 2. Fay Dempsey was born April 3, 1909, at Ione, Ore., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Dempsey. He never married. He was a resident of the Washtucna community for the past 30 years where he engaged in farm labor. A half sister, Mrs. C. W. Lister of Portland, Ore., and a brother, Ray Dempsey of Dexter, Mich., survive him. The Rev. William Woodworth conducted the funeral services. Burial was in the Washtucna cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, April 18, 1963 Former Area Resident Dies in Road Crash Mrs. William Keehner Ross, 41, a former Ritzville area resident, was killed in a two-truck collision Monday afternoon, April 8, near Phillipsburg, Mont., and Arthur Lee, 18, of Drummond was seriously injured. Funeral services were held last Friday at the Squire-Simmons-Carr Rose chapel in Missoula, Mont. Mrs. Ross and Lee, according to the investigating coroner, Woodrow Wilson, were alone in their vehicles. The mishap happened on a long curve and was a near "head-on" crash, according to Wilson. Mrs. Ross was born and raised at Ritzville. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Keehner. A graduate of Ritzville high school, she was married to Harold Ross of Kahlotus on Sept. 13, 1940. They farmed in the Kahlotus and Ritzville vicinities before moving to Clinton, Mont., in 1953. She is survived by her husband at the home; a sister, Mrs. Oliver (Ella) Davis of Republic; an aunt, Mrs. Carl Hoffman of Sprague; and two nieces and a nephew. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Glenn G. Husby. Interment was in the Missoula cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, April 25, 1963 Funeral Service for Henry Dyck This Afternoon Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at the Menno Mennonite church at 2 p.m. for Henry William Dyck, 59, who passed away Monday at his residence at 604 W. Main. Dyck was born Oct. 19, 1903, to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dyck at their farm home. He attended the Schrag school district. He farmed in the Colfax area from 1931 to 1952 when he retired to live in Ritzville. He is survived by his wife, Ella, at the home; three sisters, Mrs. Joe G. Schrag of Moses Lake, Mrs. Julius Franz of Lind, and Mrs. E. C. Schrag of Ritzville; and one brother, Frank Dyck, of Ritzville. He was a member of the Mennonite church. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Lester Janzen and interment will be in the Mennonite cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clinton Claasen, Leo Dyck, Leonard Franz, Walter Reimer, Percy Schrag and Burt Scruggs. Dankeas Funeral Home will be in charge. Two Day Illness Takes Mittie Reed Mrs. Mittie Lee Reed, 47, passed away at the Adams County Memorial hospital after a two-day illness. Funeral services were held Saturday with a 10:30 chapel service conducted by Rev. L. J. Burkhart and church services were held at 2 p.m. at the Morning Star Baptist church in Pasco. Danekas Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mittie Lee Carter Reed was born Feb. 29, 1916, to Reuben and Willie Lee Carter at Ark Adelphia, Ark. She is survived by her husband, Ellie; one daughter, Mrs. Minnie Marie Miller of Lathrop, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Jessie Mae Cook of Pullman; her father and step-mother at Pasco; two grandchildren and two step-brothers. Martha Wertz Laid To Rest Mrs. Martha F. Wertz, who grew to womanhood at Lind, died Monday of last week at her home in Olympia after a short illness. Funeral services were conducted Thursday by the Rev. H. J. Wuerth at the Gull Harbor Lutheran church in Olympia. Mrs. Wertz was born in Lind April 6, 1912, and lived in eastern Washington until she moved to Olympia in 1933. She was married to Lloyd Wertz in Olympia Jan. 20, 1934. Surviving in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Mrs. Arlean (Earl) Burns, Olympia; three brothers, Ted and Emil Fode, Lind, and John Fode, Ritzville; three sisters, Mrs. Edna Flatau, Olympia, Mrs. Amelia Kramer, Ritzville, and Mrs. Emma Floether, Odessa; and one grandson. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, May 2, 1963 Mrs. Dehnel's Funeral Rites Will Be Today Funeral services for Lena Agusta Dehnel will be held today at 2 o'clock at Emanuel Lutheran church. Mrs. Dehnel died early Sunday morning at the Sacred Heart hospital in Spokane after a two-weeks illness with pneumonia. She was 77 years of age. She had not been in good health for the last 10 years. The Rev. Albert Wagner will conduct services. Burial will be in the Lutheran cemetery here. Lena Augusta Dehnel was born Feb. 12, 1886, at Crete, Neb., the daughter of Johann and Whilemina Wellsandt. With her parents the little girl came west when she was three. They settled in Ralston where she resided until 1917. From 1917 to 1923 she lived in Ritzville and then moved back to Ralston until 1950. She had lived in Ritzville at the family home at 106 E. 6th since then. She attended Ritzville schools. On Nov. 15, 1905, she married Albert Gustav Dehnel. A daughter, Ester, died in August of 1912. Mr. Dehnel died Sept. 19, 1943. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Aaron (Florence) Kiehn, Walla Walla; three sons, Edwin, Vernon and Robert of Ritzville; a sister, Mrs. William (Minnie) Oestreich and three brothers, John A., William F., and Emil A. Wellsandt, all of Ritzville; and a brother, Henry H. Wellsandt, of Dayton. There are also 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren surviving. Mrs. Dehnel was a member of Emanuel Lutheran church and of its Faith circle; and of the Ralston Grange Auxiliary. Pallbearers will be Victor, Kermit and Howard Wellsandt, Harold Pfann, Lester Pfannekuchen and Everett Kiehn. Honorary pallbearers are Ernest Kuhn, Ben Snyder, William Nissen, Virgil Snyder, Ivan Graham, Frank West, Ralph Kisler. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, May 9, 1963 None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, May 16, 1963 Minnie Deking Funeral Held on Wednesday Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Emanuel Lutheran church here for Minnie M. Deking. Mrs. Deking died Saturday at Sacred Heart hospital in Spokane following a confinement there for 18 days. She was born Jan. 1, 1890, in Ritzville, the daughter of Herman and Louise Sickmann. She attended school in Ritzville. On Nov. 30, 1910, she and Ernest Deking, sr., were married. Two daughters and a son survive their mother, Mrs. Danny Haight of Pasco, Mrs. Leonard Swedo of Spokane and Ernest Deking of Ritzville. A son, Theodore, died in 1947. Mr. Deking died in 1942. There are also two brothers surviving, William and August Sickmann, as well as nieces and nephews. Two grandchildren and a great-grandchild survive. Mrs. Deking lived on the Deking farm eight miles south of Ritzville from 1910 until 1921. The family moved to Ritzville where they lived until 1931 when they moved back to the ranch until 1943. She had lived in Ritzville since 1943. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran church and of the Faith Circle. The Rev. Albert F. Wagner conducted the service. Burial was in the Lutheran cemetery. Pallbearers were Walter Deking, Edward Deking, Arthur Deking, Harry Clodius, William Bierman and Ted Bierman. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, May 23, 1963 Funeral For Elda Schimelfining Will Be Saturday Miss Elda Schimelfining, a sister of Mrs. Emil Schell, died Monday at Adams County Memorial hospital. She had been ill and in the hospital here for the past 11 months. Funeral services will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran church in Seattle at 11 o'clock Saturday morning. Danekas Funeral Home will have charge of the service. Burial will be in Riverton Crest cemetery in Seattle. Miss Schimelfining was born Dec. 23, 1921, in North Dakota. She had lived in Seattle the last 19 years. Surviving are three brothers, Frank and Forris Schimelfining of Dearborn, Wisc., and Morris Schimelfining of Tampa, Fla.; and four sisters, Dena Kinnan, Wausau, Wisc., Lena Dierheim, Minot, N. Dak., Maryheln Schell, Ritzville, and Sylvia Roys, Champain, Ill. The Rev. Olin Dasher of St. Mark's Lutheran church will conduct the funeral service in Seattle. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, May 30, 1963 None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, June 6, 1963 Frank Kane Dead in Boating Upset Frank Kane, a brother-in-law of Joe Jaeger and of Mrs. Betty Thomas of Ritzville, drowned Sunday in a boating accident near Adana in southern Turkey. Drowned also in the accident was James J. Brophy of the U.S. Information service. Brophy's boat overturned on a lade and Kane attempted to rescue him, reports said. Mr. and Mrs. Kane and their two children, four and six, visited in Ritzville in June of 1962. Their home is in Turkey where Kane was employed by the Tumpane Co., a construction firm. Glenn Hamill, Washtucnan, Dies Suddenly Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Washtucna Community church for Glenn Garth Hamill. Burial was in the Lacrosse cemetery. Mr. Hamill died suddenly at Twin Lakes following a heart attack. He was 51 years of age. He had suffered from heart trouble for a year and 10 months. He was born Aug. 31, 1911, at Grangeville, Ida., and grew up there, at Lewiston and Lapwai, Ida. He came to Lacrosse in 1928 where he graduated from high school in 1931. He was married to Jeanne Scott of Lacrosse on July 3, 1935. Hamill was associated with his father-in-law, Ira Scott, in farming and livestock raising in Washtucna since 1936. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; by a daughter, Mrs. Timmie Blauert, Washtucna; a son, Robert, of Washtucna; his mother, Mrs. R. C. Hamill of Spokane; a sister, Mrs. Orie Lee Malone of Spokane; a brother, F. R. Hamill of Spokane; and four grandchildren, Kelly Jo and Wendy Ann Hamill, and Marlette Lynn and Garth Allan Blauert, all of Washtucna. He was a member of the town council at Washtucna, the fire department and the gun club. He was a former school board member. Hamill had held his private pilot's license more than 20 years and flew his own plane. He was a member of the Washtucna Community church of the Washtucna Masonic lodge. The Rev. J. William Woodsworth conducted the services. Pallbearers were Clarence Thiel, George Sullivan, Elmer Lee, John Klee, Alfred Sitko and Tom Hollenback. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, June 13, 1963 Elizabeth Ensz Dies at Monroe Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Voth Ensz, formerly of Lind, were held at Monroe Tuesday of last week. She died June 1 at the General Hospital and Nursing home in Monroe where she had lived the last three years. With her husband she came to Washington in 1901 from South Dakota. They homesteaded near Weber, later moving to Tiflis. After Mr. Ensz died in 1917 she moved to Ruff and later to Lind where she lived until three years ago. One of her stepsons died in February of 1963. The other stepson lives in Seattle. There are also grandchildren and great-grandchildren surviving. She was a member of the Menno Mennonite church. Funeral Services of Mrs. Sackmann is Held Monday Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Lind Methodist church for Mrs. Elmer Sackmann. She died last Friday at Ashland, Ore., following a lingering illness. The Rev. Martin Larson conducted the services. Burial was in the Lind cemetery. Billie Irene Pence was born Dec. 19, 1931, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Pence of Lind. She attended Lind schools and spent all her life in the county. She was married to Elmer Sackmann who survives her. Both her parents survive her as well as two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Lillie Rock of Spokane, Mrs. Hazel Buhl of Soap Lake and George Pence of Lind. She was a member of the Lind Methodist church and of Margaret Wadsworth chapter of Eastern Star, Lind. She was a past worthy advisor of the Order of Rainbow for Girls in Lind. Pallbearers were Boyd Phillips, Alfred Tenneson, Raymond Stelzer, Richard Fode, Nick Seivers, jr., and Albert Strohmaier. Danekas Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Ranch Worker is Stricken J. J. Elliott, employed at the Bob Phillips ranch out of Lind, died from a heart attack Tuesday morning about 8:45. He was 34 years of age. Elliott was putting a side rack on a pickup when he suffered a heart attack. It was fatal. Sheriff Clint Rowe responded to a call. When he arrived at the ranch he radioed to Othello for the Muscott Funeral Home ambulance to come and get Elliott's body. Elliott is survived by his wife, a teacher at Othello, and by four children. The family had a residence at the Phillips ranch. They had formerly lived at Omak. Emanuel Hoffman Funeral is Held in Ritzville Monday Funeral services for Emanuel Hoffman were held last Saturday at the chapel of the Danekas Funeral Home. He died June 3 at Stockton, Calif., after an illness of two weeks. Emanuel Hoffman was born Aug. 8, 1907, in Washington. He had married but was divorced. Survivors include his father, John Hoffman of Ritzville, and a sister, Mrs. Mel McKee of Spokane. He had lived at Stockton the past five years where he had worked in construction. He was a member of the Congregational church. The Rev. Herbert Haemmelmann of the Philadelphia Congregational church conducted the funeral service. Burial was in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Pallbearers were John Hille, S. E. Shelman, Rueben Knodel, Everett Hille, Alvin Hille and Herbert Sackmann. Frank Kane Rites Being Arranged Funeral services for Frank Kane are being arranged by the Bonney- Watson Funeral Home in Seattle. Kane, brother-in-law of Joe Jaeger and Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas of Ritzville, drowned recently in Seyhan Lake in Turkey. His body was found Sunday. Kane leaves his wife, the former Agnes Jaeger, and two children, Patrick, 4, and Kathleen, 6. He was in Turkey as a project manager for the Tumpane company of New York. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, June 20, 1963 Funeral Held In California for Mrs. Shaw Mrs. Warren G. Shaw, the former Rosalia Koch of Ritzville, passed away Tuesday following an eight months heart ailment at a hospital in Burlingame, Calif. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Koch. Rosalia Caroline Koch Shaw was born March 7, 1903, on the Ziemer ranch nine miles northwest of Ritzville and received her schooling in this city. She was employed as assistant county superintendent for Frank Perkins and Mrs. Alice Ripplinger in 1923 and 1924. In 1926 she graduated from Washington State University with a degree in music which she taught for four years in Wenatchee, Anatone and Pomeroy. In 1930 she was married to Warren G. Shaw of Pomeroy. They resided at San Mateo, Calif., at the time of her death. She was a member of the Zenobia Rebekah lodge of Ritzville; the Alpha Omicron Pi Delta sorority; Mu Pi Epilson; and the AAUW. Mrs. Shaw is survived by her husband and parents; two daughters, Mrs. Anna Barber of San Diego and Susan Shaw of Arcata, Calif.; two granddaughters, Debbie Sue and Kathy Ann Barber; and two sisters, Henrietta Koch of Ritzville and Mrs. Harland Eastwood of Seattle. Funeral services were held June 14 at 2:30 p.m. at Crosby-N Gray and Co., Burlingame. The Rev. T. Elmer Smith of the First Methodist church officiated. Mrs. Dillingham Dies at Indianola Funeral services will be held today in Port Orchard for Mrs. L. R. (Myrtelle) Dillingham, a former Ritzville resident. She died in her sleep Saturday evening in Indianola. She is survived by her husband and a son, Carlton, both at home, and a daughter, Florence, in California. She was at the time of her death, a member of Chapter AR, PEO of Ritzville and of Zenith Chapter, OES, also of Ritzville. Mr. and Mrs. Dillingham lived in Ritzville some 30 years ago when he owned a jewelry store in the location now occupied by Jacob Lencer and operated the Ritz theatre in the locacation now occupied by Slim Weber's garage. State Trooper Laid to Rest at Longview Funeral services for Albert B. Little were held in the Community church at Longview Monday of last week. Over 100 state patrol officers in uniform were present to pay tribute to one of their members who served 31 years before his retirement a little over a year ago. Little, a captain when he retired in 1961, had come to Ritzville June 1 with Mrs. Little to visit their son, Allan B. Little and family. That same day he suffered a heart attack while playing golf. His death occurred June 6 at the Adams County Memorial hospital where he had been confined following the attack. A. B. Little, sr., was the youngest of seven children. Three brothers and two sisters survive him. His wife and two children survive, Sgt. A. B. Little of the Ritzville contingent of the state troopers, and Mrs. Charlotte Beeber of Portland. There are eight surviving grandchildren. The Rev. Burton Salter of Olympia conducted the funeral services. He is an honorary member with rank of captain in the Washington State Patrol. As chaplain of the state police he wears the same uniform except that he does not carry sidearms. Assisting the Rev. Mr. Salter was the Rev. Dr. Ed Gebert, Longview, a lifelong friend of the deceased. Following the funeral service, the state patrol members present formed a double line facing the walkway through which the casket was borne. Each patrolman gave his final salute. Sgt. and Mrs. Little attended the funeral. Their four children elected to remain in Ritzville. They have many fond memories of good times with granddad. Reas L. Metz Funeral Held Reas L. Metz, 59, of Seattle, a former area resident, died Friday, June 7. He was supervisor of the Columbia branch of the U. S. Postal Service in Seattle. Metz was born in Hatton and attended school in Ritzville. He recently attended his 41st class reunion in Ritzville. Metz was employed by the postal service for 40 years. He attended the University of Washington and was a member of Sigma Phi Epilson fraternity; Lake Forest Park Presbyterian church and the National Association of Postal Supervisors. The cousin of Mrs. Maynard Galbreath, Metz is survived by his wife, Jeanett; a son, Danny K.; a brother, William W.; and sister, Mrs. Eloise Mohr, and Mrs. Franchon Keller, both of Seattle, and Mrs. Mildred Campbell of Lind.
